I guess everyone has seen/heard about Obama's plan to address school kids directly on Tuesday. The POTUS addressing the kids is fine but, in the case of Obama & all the shenanigans he & his people pull, his motives and agenda has to be questioned. What's up with a "ciriculum" designed by the administration accompanying his speech? Or the suggestion that the kids write letters to themselves outlining ways they can "help the President" succeed? Sounds kinda sinister to me.
My parents work in a school district, and they told me that the principal got a letter from the federal government telling them to air his speech and the principal decided that he would send permission slips out to parents for their kids to watch it. I bet some people won't want their kids to see it.
I see no problem with it as long as it is not mandatory to the children, and parents are allowed to join the kids in school that day. Reagan and Bush both did it. If he strays onto a political agenda rather than a stay in school message, then I will rethink this.
Same goes here. A President, ANY President, putting forth the value of working hard to achieve and stay in school is not a bad thing. If he starts drifting off into a political tangent then, yes, it is a problem.
Read my post again s-l-o-w-l-y....I don't trust Obama or his handlers. The ciriculum they distributed asking the kids to write to themselves on ways they can serve Obama throws up some questions, doesn't it? Specific enough? Oh, and by the way, I guess the issue was objectionable enough that Obama has now decided to change the ciriculum request. Some of you may not think it was that big of a deal but Obama seems to have had second thoughts. Funny how he "changes" his attitude so quickly when he nmeets resistance from the people. Must be tough having ideological philosophies rather than core values & beliefs.
Hey, I feel a little better now...just heard that we can preview what the teleprompter is going to tell Obama to say before our kids are subjected to it.
Perhaps you should keep your kids out of school that day David. Encourage truancy. Or maybe you should demand they get study time. Or maybe you should request to attend the class yourself. Seriously, I'm sure if you let your opinions be known you could get your children "excused" from hearing the President speak or at least be there to monitor them and tell them it's all lies. I know how important education is to you David. You've pointed it out so many times how you worked so hard to achieve what you have and honestly good for you. NOW, NOT KNOWING WHAT THE PRESIDENT IS GOING TO ACTUALLY SAY but at least being able to see his teleprompter (as he is, after all, the first person on the planet to ever use one) you are already attacking his message to millions of minds. Minds that are our future. I can see how that terrifies someone like yourself but can NOT see why it should terrify EVERYONE. This INCLUDES your children David. What if he actually DOES just put forth a message of going to school, working hard and things may come your way? Would it make you proud that you protested it so vehemently on heresay? Would your children look back on this later and say "gosh my dad is swell?". Kids are gullible for the most part aren't they? So if a kid sees something and it's wrong as in WAY wrong a good parent should be able to point out why. On the other hand some kids are rebels looking for answers. They listen to nothing their parents say and will rebel. Keeping them from hearing what the President of The United States of America will only make them rebel more. Scary as it is THEY ARE THE FUTURE as we were at their age. Attacking the messenger BEFORE the message is delivered will drive them further away. Read the telemprompter and go into it with "facts" that you have. THEN attack the messenger.
Well why not read for yourselfs what the kids will be asked? Here are a few bits of the proposed agenda, with links as well so you can read the full text http://www.whitehouse.gov/mediaresources/ THE PRESIDENT'S BACK-TO-SCHOOL MESSAGE TO AMERICA'S STUDENTS Help get America’s students engaged! On Tuesday, September 8 — the first day of school for many students — the President will talk directly to students across the country on the importance of taking responsibility for their education, challenging them to set goals and do everything they can to succeed. We want to make sure that as many schools and classrooms nationwide can participate in this special opportunity, so we are making the President’s address and all the information that comes with it available as widely as possible. Whether you are a teacher, a school board member, or a member of the media, find information below to help you watch and be engaged with the President in welcoming our students back to school. http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/prek-6.pdf Menu of Classroom Activities (PreK‐6) President Obama’s Address to Students Across America 2 After the Speech • Teachers could ask students to share the ideas they recorded, exchange sticky notes, or place notes on a butcher‐paper poster in the classroom to discuss main ideas from the speech, such as citizenship, personal responsibility, and civic duty. • Students could discuss their responses to the following questions: What do you think the president wants us to do? Does the speech make you want to do anything? Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us? What would you like to tell the president? http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/7-12.pdf After the Speech Guided Discussion: • What resonated with you from President Obama’s speech? What lines or phrases do you remember? • Whom is President Obama addressing? How do you know? Describe his audience. • We heard President Obama mention the importance of personal responsibility. In your life, who exemplifies this kind of responsibility? How? Give examples. • How are the individuals in this classroom similar? How is each student different? • Suppose President Obama were to give another speech about being educationally successful. To whom would he speak? Why? What would the president say? • What are the three most important words in the speech? Rank them. • Is President Obama inspiring you to do anything? Is he challenging you to do anything? • What do you believe are the challenges of your generation? • How can you be a part of addressing these challenges?
Did you even take a minute to read the post you are attacking? Did you? I clearly stated that the pres addressing the students is fine by me (really, I did say that!). My concern was with the activities the pres suggested accompany his little speech. Did you catch that one? Obviously there was enough concern expressed by enough other people that the administration backed away from it. Did you see that? I doubt they changed their stance simply because I objected...my guess is that many people objected to it. So, to make this easy for you- I am not attacking the message before I hear it. Simple enough for you? I do not trust the messenger on this issue or any others. Re-read your post, dude. You are trying to argue with me on something that I didn't even say simply because your Obama is the center of it. Take the blinders off..blanket statements or some such drivel, right?
I am a righty like you David, but this is like the leftys attacking " General Betray US " before he even spoke....lets not be like that.
Sorry I don't have a link to Huffington or the Daily Kos to dictate what I should believe. Think for yourself man...for once think for yourself.
David Dont get emotional over this. Believe me, if this crosses the line there will be fallout from all sides except the state run media. He wil not get away with it. I say let him do his thing, again I add, Bush 41 and Reagan both did it. If he send a cool stay in school message to the kids, no worries, thats a good thing. If the " indoctrination " starts there will be political hell to pay. O is not THAT stupid. ( I think) Arrogant yes, stupid? NO
I would guess the teleprompter will force Obama to toe the line and temper his comments now that so many people have raised objections to his "addressing" our children. Heck, Obama's handlers are going to be so careful now with what they tell him to recite that it will probably turn out to be a pretty good speech.
David what is it with you and your obsession with Teleprompters! Have you never seen any other President use one? I am honestly interested in why you keep refering to his use of this item LOL Not having a go at you or anything just interested thats all
Even us rednecks and our redneck schools down here in southern Illinois are showing it. At least the small town we are in is. I am sure there are some that aren't, though.
Hmmm. Just curious, did Bush 1 and Regan have the time or feel the need to come up with what should be discussed after their message at all, let alone to this detail? This aspect of it bothers me already. And we should all realize that this is likely the 'toned down' version they were willing to go with and expected would be palatable enough with the general public. I can only imagine what they really wanted to say. Thankfully, several schools around here have decided not to show it at school. No president needs to be making direct speeches to classrooms and then dictating how the discussion should go afterward, IMO. I know that thought will come across as being radical to some. Oh well.
