Tomorrow America throws a huge party. We do it once a year.

I'm not going to get into anything more than that really. Just want to wish everyone here a safe and happy holiday.

Share what you're doing if you so choose. Share pictures.

I will be going to a block party four houses down from the house I grew up in. I haven't lived there for 35 years yet we still get together and celebrate. The party has been a tradition for at least 40 years now.

Not many of the "parents" left from the party as most have passed on. The "host" this year is 80 years old.

We'll fire up the grills and there will be salads and deserts galore. We'll probably have a game or two of 16 inch softball (mushball as we like to call it). Maybe a watermelon seed spitting contest and some beanbag action.

At dusk we'll start setting up for fireworks. Behind the host's house is my old grade school and lots of asphalt.
PLENTY of fireworks. We put on a show that rivals some small towns.
The police will most likely stop by. They always do.

What they see is an organized effort with only adults present. They won't see a bunch of kids running amok, will hear no drunken swearing or see any alcohol. There will be a few beers in the garage but no one gets drunk.

At this point they hit us with the mess it will cause. Never a problem there. We have plenty of brooms. We clean our mess up when it's over. There have been times when I've driven back on the 5th to help finish off cleaning effort.

It's a cool party folks and as I said a tradition. Nice to get together with your childhood friends for a day. See their kids and (gasp!) grandkids.

The host's house will be passed on to her youngest son when she passes. She's in good health so I hope that's a long ways away. When it does happen I hope the tradition continues.
I'd love to be typing about this party in it's 70th year when I'm in my 70s.

    Be safe everyone.
