"The First 100 Days" has always been a big deal with every new President. We are nearing Obama's first 100 days...what accomplishments have we seen from his administration?
A few things I have noticed...the days are getting longer since he took office, things are also starting to seem greener around my house, flowers are starting to bloom and the weather is getting nicer. Coincidence? I think not.
The stock market seems to have turned the corner. Hopefully the rest of the economy will follow suit. The Republicans are going to have a hard time explaining themselves if the economy really does pick up, they have so much invested in making him, and the rest of the country, fail.
A commitment to leave Iraq is one. But I gotta say. I saw that video of him bowing to some king. And I am flabbergasted. I believe it was the King of Indonesia. And some of his staff tried to cover it up. But no it was a bow. David you'll be happy to know, or not, doesnt matter, that I have written the senior senator of my state. Good old lackluster Harry. I let him know how unacceptable Obama's conduct was. And Reid better explain how he can cuddle up to a president that submits to another ruler of a country. Yep , I told him no US President should kow tow to a foreign potentate. I dont care about his religion, but that was embarassing. So he has accompished that too.
I had not heard of the bow until you mentioned it. And apparently it was to the Saudi King. Imagine that. You'd think I never read the news or something. But, years later, I am still hearing about and seeing Bush holding hands with the same guy but I hear nothing about Pres Obama submitting to the same guy as his servant. Yeah, imagine that. And I ain't buying the whole "He's taller" explanation either. The Presidents head went to about Saudi shoulder level and with his head down. One stumble and he would have been giving the Saudi King another Hummer*. *I am talking about the SUV, of course.
That hand holding thing just looked kinda gay. I think this is different. I read somewhere, that those Suadis take your hand as you walk as a sign of friendship.
Hand holding between men is very common over in that area of the world. Used to see it quite a bit. And, of course, all the military rumors are that all the workers were having sex with each other all the time. This one guy saw these 2 guys doing this or that to each other. Who knows how much of that stuff is true. Probably not much. I never saw anything but I didn't go trying to find it going on either. And I greeted a lot of locals over there and had a number of conversations with locals too. Never bowed to one, though. That never seemed to be a custom there in the way it kinda was in Korea.
I don't think that has anything to do with the current President. If you remember back to some of his cabinet nominations, I don't think he cares if taxes are paid on 15 April.
That is an excellent question. The only things that I can come up with is that we can no longer use the term war on terror. The U.S. stopped torturing suspected terrorists. And the big one..... the government has spent trillions in a flash. Faster than Bush ever dreamed of spending. And guns and ammo prices have skyrocketed like I've never seen. Because his anti-gun stance has back-fired and caused millions and millions of more firearms to be sold than if he was just a moderate and had no opinion. As far as the stock market 'leveling out', I would certainly hope there would be some type of bottom and gains after how much the government has spent or has promised to spend, in order to stimulate the economy. Although unemployment numbers continue to rise. No, I can't see any reason to pop the champagne cork over anything that's happened in these first 100 days. Of course, this is about what I expected. I wasn't a starry eyed spectator that expected him to bring a magic wand to Washington. Looking back at all the campaign propaganda and hoopla is laughable now. It's easy to talk and get everyone whipped up into a fury and promise the world and jobs to everyone while on the campaign trail. But now that he's in, reality sinks in. Reality is dull and boring. Not much happens fast. If at all. He's just there.
Yep, all talk & no action...alot of people here bought into it but seem to have disappeared now. Remember those "On Day 1..." promises? All the Obama worshippers claiming "He's going to do this...." "He's going to do that..."? Or the "paranoia" accusations when many of us predicted he would follow a reckless socialist agenda? Or travel around the world apologizing for being American? Or not keep his promises on irresponsible spending? Bringing transparency & higher ethical standards to his administration? Guess what?
And dont foget, he stopped torturing suspected terrorist. What a loser. I mean if they arent guilty of terrorism, theyre guilty of something, right? I hate to impose; but would you mind pointing out where anyone here wrote that he, as President, would go around the world apologizing for being American? You are probably right, but I cannot recall such a thing being written here. Thanks a bunch.
I'm not criticizing him for stopping torture. The point was, I was trying to come up with the most relevant things he's done that I could think of off the top of my head. That was one of them. Personally, I don't care what they do with them and the fact that it has stopped isn't necessarily a 'first 100 days' point worth writing home about. Now they only have to fear the quality of the food in our prison system. That was just one out of three items I could come up with that had very little impact on our lives. David probably mentioned that he would go around apologizing for America. I may have. He wasn't accusing you of saying it. You probably thought he wouldn't. But in fact, he's already made his rounds apologizing for America's actions, blaming the previous administration like an adolescent and bowing to a Saudi King. And trying to cover up this nations history by telling Turkey how diverse the religious beliefs are in our country, despite the fact that no other middle eastern country is that way or would feel compelled to tell us about their diversity even if they were.
Yeah, David wrote that some body in here had the clairvoyance to see that coming. I just want to know where that foresight is posted. And if it was you who had the keen sense to know what Obama would do prior to getting elected, please tell me where you wrote that. And if its no trouble can you give me the NL pennant winner.
Whether it was posted here or not, if you listened to talk radio any given day in the months leading up to the election, people were talking about Obama being apologetic for American history almost daily. It was just known. You must not have gotten the memo. The Cardinals.
The essence of David's post was that some people here(this chat room) knew the apology was to come. Now come on, that u tube thing didnt come close to saying that Obama would travel the world to apologize for America. And are you telling me this counrty isnt full of bigots, homophobes, and illegal aliens? And that sometimes it sucks? And then Limbaugh(sic) goes on to say that Obama wants to change that. The temerity! The Cards? Really?
OK what has he done, well the most important thing is he has raised Americas profile in the world, now some of you might not think that is much but believe me it is, you are no longer looked at as been this big bad wolf but possibly now someone who others can have discussions with. Then on to the Economy, ok it still looks bad but check out house sales they have improved and that is the first sign that a recovery is on the way. Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase & Co both turned profits in the 1st 2 months and that was with interest rates at zero. The job losses fell in April as well. He has stoped the torture of suspects, good or bad depends on your point of view LOL I can remember the outpoaring of condemnation against my own goverment when we used white noise on IRA suspects and yes most of it came from the US LOL He has offerd the hand of freindship to all now it is up to them to react but he has also shown his determination by increasing troops in Afghanistan pulling them out of Iraq and his action against Somalian pirates. All in all not a bad 1st hundred days considering the circumstances.
What has he accomplished so far? Well, he is the Superpresident...how's 'bout that! http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/24/schneider.polls/index.html (Another hard hitting senior political analysis....)
And here is a hard hitting look at his first 100 days http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1893277,00.html (From Joe Klein aka the Unofficial White House Press Secretary.)
