    on a scale of 1-10:

economy 2 (I am no fan of Reagan but Bush is NO Reagan).

international -10(yes that is a negative ten, it will take decades to fix the mess he is leaving us with).

health care 2 (I guess that wierd perscription benefit gets him a two though my retired friends would say zero).

education 0 (the fed gov has no business imposing the type of BS that No Child Left Behind imposes on local communities, BIG Fed gov run amok!!).

energy policy (negative numbers do not go that high).

environmental policy 0 (he is in favor of arsenic).

    disaster preparedness 0 (Katrina)

to hard to judge. he is in office at a really crappy time to be in charge. probably not the best ever but definitely not the worst.

He doesn't handle anything very well. I have no doubts that he made education problems worse with NCLB. Overall, very bad. 2% ( At least he can read, I think.)

09s - the problem with the NCLB thing is that the Fed gov has no business in local education. Even the conservatives agree on this one. Unfunded mandates are brutal on schools they have to cut sports teams and art and music because of them.

I give him a 60%. He has good economic policies, he's not great internationally, but no republicans seem to be as of late. I don't like his war on drugs, but that's because I'm a libertarian. I'd say he's good with education. Great on healthcare, since he isn't trying to socialize it.

And btw, as far as disaster preparedness, I don't think you can pin that on Bush in the least.

Zane you gotta be kidding, Bush put extremely unqualified people in crutial jobs, you can not get more responsible than that. This political payoff COST PEOPLE THEIR LIVES.

We're fighting the growing tide of violent Radical Islam in the middle east instead of here, that's good. The economy, could be better and gas prices are a direct result of those crazy hurricanes. Our allies are small in number but big in "Can Do Ability" Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Israel, etc. I'd rather have these on our side than Sudan, Turkey, France, Spain, etc.

Freedom of speech and religion are going strong.

As far as Bush's "Weapons of Mass Destruction" claim, I'll always say they were moved to the Bacca Valley, just across the border from Iraq, so... I'll give him a 68% approval rating.

The reason given for cutting these courses is very misleading, to say the least. When you are trying to influence someone elses oppinion on a subject, youi hang out a carrot and take it away, because of one thing or another. So to say these mandates are causing this or that is a bunch of balloney, they could have cut afternoon sessions of computer lab, etc. just as easily as art class. Usuallly nothing ever happens, so it's a mute point anyway.
As for NCLB, it doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I wouldn't blame it on Bush either. I mean, it's not like he's the commander in chief or anything. ;)

I may have engaged in a bit of hyperbole there. I mean these classes are not being cut right and left. The problem is that the Feds tell local schools they MUST spend their LOCAL property tax dollars on such and such as if they know these communities better than the local people. It is rotten. The constitution gives education to the states NOT the Feds. Most conservatives are against unfunded Fed mandates.

G.W, Bush will be judged by future historians as one of the greatest American Presidents of the 20th Century. He is more of a leader than a traditional politician. He inherited huge international and domestic problems from earlier irresponsible Administrations, Congresses, and Courts. He has had to respond to more major disasters, natural and man-made, than any modern President other than FDR. Even FDR was able to assess and deal with national problems without unrelenting enemies within, and outside, the United States. Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Chuck Schumer, Harry Reed, and several other prominent Democrats are clearly more concerned about immediate political advantages than the well-being of the Nation. Then Bush has to accomodate staunch allies like France and Mexico.

There has not been another President in my lifetime that has been the subject of more unsupported political attacks and outright lies than G.W. Bush. I think most of the baseless oral attacks, and his diminished poll ratings, are largely due to pervasive public ignorance. Everyone seems to have strong opinions, but few bother to study situations and understand the facts. Bush's harshest critics appear to have the shortest memories and very modest abilities to analyze data. Too many Americans "feel" rather than "think." People spend far too much time watching mindless television shows, drinking brewskis, and flapping their jaws. That's about it.

"G.W, Bush will be judged by future historians as one of the greatest American Presidents of the 20th Century"

the only reason this would NEVER happen is that he is the first president of the 21st century. :D
