Given: World Population 2006 is 6,446,131,400
Given: Each generation is produced by 2 parents
Given: Each previous generation doubled the gene pool required to get to this generation

Fact: See attached spreadsheet -65 generations (the birth of Christ) we would have 73,786,976,294,838,200,000 grandparents (ancestors) I'm not even sure what this number is called, but:

Fact: I believe it shows that we are all inbred.

Either that, or there have been a lot of large families out there. On the other hand, if you calculate how many ancestors you have, it is an impressive number. If two Anglo-Americans have 17th Century American ancestors, there is a significant probability that they have common ancestors because there were so few northern Europeans in America in 1650.

I read an interesting article last night on the Internet while researching Native American DNA information.

In the late 1990s, British geneticists sampled a tooth from the "Cheddar Man", a 9,000-year-old fossil-man discovered in a cave near Cheddar, England. They did DNA analysis on the Cheddar Man's tooth and tissue from a few dozen Brits curently near Cheddar. According to the article, they found a 42-year-old history teacher, who lives about one mile from the famous cave, that had a common ancestor with the Cheddar Man. Their DNA matched after 9,000 years. Wow, talking about not getting out much!

The article appeared to be legitimate, but who knows on the Internet. I am always suspect of news articles coming out of England, what with Monty Python, crop circles, and perennial humor issues over there. I will see if I can find the article again.

But that doesn't take into account the (many) people abstaining from copulation/dying before they could copulate to produce that next generation. And how does this show that we're all inbred? That's just a weird conclusion!

BTW, the number is 73 quintillion, 786 quadrillion, 976 trillion, 294 billion, 838 million, 200 thousand.

I saw a show on the Cheddar Man on the History Channel, or Disovery a couple years back. It was quite interesting.

This article is obviously wrong, being that the earth is only about six thousand
    years old.

Well, without getting into that same argument again, I would like to point out that this argument is only based on one point of view. The opposing point of view would dictate that it is possible the article is right, based on the fact that the earth is geologically puported to be several billion years old, and humankind is purported to be several hundred-thousand years old.

"humankind is purported to be several hundred-thousand years old." AJ

The human fossil record is flawed and may not even be based upon humans but cousins of humans. Consider the fact that mankind typically lived near the oceans and that most of that land is now under ocean. Who knows how early man looked like or how soon we did develop into the basic look that we have today. What is being preached as fact in the colleges today is theory and in some cases flawed at that.

And for the record, I believe in a basic evolution, not what is being taught as fact today, with intelligent design behind it and that the world is more then 6,000 years old.

Again with the snide remarks about my education.... whats up with that, Andy?

And, for the record, this is why I said "purported to be" and not "is."

Your God must be pretty impotent if he has to use evolution to create things.
