I don't visit here an awful lot but when I do I sure enjoy the sharing of info, knowledge, humor and respect. I was really shocked the last couple of times to see some fairly heated discussions going on and disgruntled people, is this a norm for this forum or am I just hitting bad days. I thought this was "CoinTalk". Not judging, just wondering if its often this tense?

Relax. We do go through an occasional rough patch, but on the whole I think you'll find this to be one of the most civilized, friendly forums on the whole internet. ;)

Thanks for your reply, and I am totally relaxed, just curious. Good to hear though, obviously I just hit at a bad batch. I agree its a good forum, we all have our days right. Thanks again! :)

I think "Bad Karma" would make a more interesting title for this forum than "General Discussion" :)

I'd call it growing pains rather than "bad karma" or a "rough patch", this forum truly attracts all types. No matter how much I assure people that I neither wear jack boots, nor own a black helocopter, someone always pops up that's totally convinced that I'm heading up a conspiracy against them. :D

People will be people and everyone is unique and has something to offer. Obviously you can't please everyone and I don't envy the forum administrators for the job and decisions that must be made on a daily basis. I think the job done here is awesome my hat is off to all of you, its a lot of ground to cover so take a well deserved pat on the back as opposed to... well you know. I would like to say I am very grateful for all of the answers to my questions thus far and the opportunity to draw from the different levels of experience. Soooo THANK YOU! :D

I've been here a while and think that the people here have been pretty darn nice. The emotional topics that crop up from time to time tend to make some people's blood boil a bit. I guess the discussions do get a bit dry and a little intensity sort of breaks it up. You want strictly dry boring analytical coin talk, go to Mike Diamond's Yahoo error coin forum. My God! I couldn't delete their emails fast enough.

The Tree of Coin Talk must occasionally be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants, or something like that.

Bluegill, couldn't we just use the tree to hang a few of them??

Never fear, that tree is being used on Coin Community to hang a few (very unprofessional...their words) people from CT. It seems that CC has aquired both Errorcoins and nds76 as their members and so the beat goes on, an on and on. Already complaining about where to post the next 10,000 pic of Buffalo horns, and that the size don't allow him to fill up the entire thread and needs to be enlarged, and the beat goes on and on and on.

Kind of nice here for a change.....but boy, are those guys at CC going to be mad as CT when they find out these two were sent over with a few blessings from many of us. (guess we were the unprofessional people he was talking about).

A little conflict is a healthy thing in any community - if you become too homogenous, everybody on the same page, you run out of things to talk about. Moderating a community like this is walking a fine line between allowing reasonable discourse and preventing too much disruption.

How long could you live with someone who agreed with everything you said? :)

Man I checked out that "other" forum and it was a very unsettling experience. They sure seem to hate us here at CT. Several ex-members are saying some VERY HARSH things about us "un-professionals" and bragging about how much more professional they are and how they welcome anyone no matter what. I noticed several members use both forums. How can you sit there and let them say those things and not get upset?

Oh yes, I did see mr. errorcoins and read his harsh statements about us here. That was right before he talked about all the Buffalo "major" errors he had to show them. Sort of the same scenario, he wants to show them in the general forum and not the error forum. Easy to see when someone is over-sizing the actual error to hopefully over-size the bids it receives on ebay. I know I am attacking him but his and others statements and attacks concerning CT users really pi--ed me off.

Oh don't worry he'll probably end up disliking me immensely when i get started on my opinion on error coins. Lets just say i think most coins peddled as errors are actually just die flaws struck from dies that are undergoing the normal wear and tear of minting proceedures. So die cracks, filled in letters, chips, etc. are all die flaws.

Errors are different, they are actual mistakes (hence 'error'), such as wrong obverse/reverse pairings, wrong alignment (i.e medal instead of coin), spelling mistakes and wrong dates not corrected (overdates do not count because they are mostly done on purpose). So errors are pretty uncommon.

At least that's my opinion on the matter anyhow.

I didn't (and still don't) understand that whole mess. The idea of this hobby is to collect what you like - not to collect what OldDan likes (no offense, I just don't see why that would be important to anyone except OldDan). Obviously he likes error bison nickels and obviously he is collecting them.

    what am I not seeing?

You are absolutely right Rick, because my collecting days are coming to a close and that should leave it whide open to everyone to pick and choose as they please. Collect what YOU like, no one else has any say in that part of it.

Sorry, I'm still not collecting three horned buffalo or even one's that show their ear hanging down below the horn and misjudging that to be an error. I will admit getting very tired of listening to and seeing page after page of photos of what someone assumed was an error.

Any more and I have limited my collecting to.....[IMG]

and I don't mean to say I disagree with you, because I don't. But again, I don't know why that would influence what someone else wants to collect. Anyone is more than welcome to look at my most treasured pieces and roll their eyes in disgust... it won't make me want to change my tastes. Collectors need to have thick skin - or hide, as they have in Wyoming.:p

PS: I'd bet half my collection in gold that says your collecting days are FAR from coming to a close.
