Question For Shooters

I used to carry my boys to the woods over Thanksgiving to shoot mistletoe out of trees with a 22 rifle. One year I forgot one pair of hearing protection so I went without. I truly believed that I had permanently damaged my hearing as my ears rung and my hearing was muffled for quite some time... A mistake I never made again.

So this leads to my question. Is Trumps hearing potentially damaged? I know the initial shot was 140 yards away but doesn't a bullet have a continuous mini-sonic boom effect as it travels through the air? I never had a bullet travel close to me before (thankfully).

    I doubt it.

While the bullet travels in one direction, sound waves travel in all directions, and their energy dissipates very rapidly. The intensity of a sound wave is a function of the inverse square of the radial distance from the source. Said differently, the sound of the gunshot as heard by the shooter (assumed very roughly 1 foot from the report of the cartridge) would be roughly 160,000 times as loud as that heard by Trump standing roughly 400 feet away.

BTW . . . mighty glad you've never met a bullet in person.

The projectile will have a “wizzing” sound as it travels by, followed by the retort of the shot. Very distinctive. The time between the two will tell you how far away the shooter is. There will be a loud “thwack” sound if it directly hits a person or animal fully. If you are struck, you will likely not hear either sound.

I will attempt to comment on your thoughts in a manner that involves reality:

You do not know what the hell you are talking about, or, in a slightly less offensive retort....BS.

Well, it’s a good thing Mr. 22 long rifle himself isn’t in the house anymore. He'd have schooled us all.

What? Are you trying to say fat head was near the shooter? ( he wasn't ) Please explain.

It is not the muzzle blast that would have an effect on the distant target, dumazz, save for artillery rounds.

It is the muzzle report. You would know this if your weapons training was not limited to Saturday morning cartoons.

To any who might claim that sonic booms should have damaged Trump’s hearing, as well as that of others in close proximity, let’s not forget the reason snipers often choose to use subsonic ammo in short range shooting is to evade detection, and because shorter shots are less impacted by environmental factors.

No sonic booms of passing shock waves were picked up by Trump’s microphone. Only the distance-dampened reports from the rifle 400+ feet away. This alone is evidence that subsonic cartridges were used by Crooks. Of course, the FBI knows what cartridges were used, but I did not find that information publicized.

You seem to have not the slightest clue what my post was about. You shouldn't be calling others dumbazz unless you want something up yours. Bend over.
