The poster means "gay" and that's not an insult. If you see it as an insult that's a personal problem.
I don't view it as an insult, nor am I trying to make it one. That you seem inclined to use gay as an adjective doesn't make it proper English. Flamboyant and gay are not synonyms. While Trump's backdrop is ostentatious, and therefore flamboyant, using the word gay to describe it is not fitting.
If that's the hill you wanna die on, go for it. Wait, if colloquialisms are out, does that mean idioms have to go too? To be clear, I don't actually think you are near death on a hill right now.
I should be clear about adjectival use of the word . . . it's not an adjective for inanimate objects, although our youth seem to use it that way. I guess my point is that a gay man has no more right to characterize Trump's taste (or lack thereof) as gay than has Trump to call a gay man a faggot. Stretch meanings, if you like, but it's a two way street . . . not one way.
One is derogatory, the other is not. It's really disappointing that that you would use that kind of language. Especially when the mods here go on crusades about the lightest of swearing.
The word is used here simply to make a point, and is not directed at an intended victim. Moreover, you are wrong. Your perception that the adjectival use of the word gay when applied to someone who is not gay is yours, and not necessarily the perception of others. I know that others (yes, myself included) have considered it pejorative when I've heard it used that way before, and it was obvious that the issuing party intended it that way. Mr. Ali, as a member of the gay community, apparently considers himself privileged. He is not. If abuses of the English language are his right, they are the right of all. He, and others who stretch the meaning of the language to fit their agendas and make themselves feel better at the expense of others would do well to remember that.
Mr. Ali using "gay" wasn't intended to have a victim either. That's on you for seeing it as pejorative. Again, it's only pejorative if you see being perceived as gay as a negative thing.
I heard the funniest gay joke on youtube. Ill try to come close: A straight man was leaving his country as fast as he could leaving everything behind. His friend could not understand and asked what was going on. The man stopped to explain. "Several centuries ago, gays were drawn and quartered. Five hundred yeas ago a gay person was beheaded. A hundred years ago gays were hung. Fifty years ago gays were flogged and thrown in prison for thirty years. Thirty years ago gays were fined and sent to jail for a few weeks. Five years ago gays were put on trial and pardoned. A year ago gays took over the city for a day. I'm leaving the country before being gay is compulsory!"
It’s obvious that the left is scared of him because Chuck-U-Schumer says Vance is a bad choice: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sc...aims-vance-best-thing-hes-ever-done-democrats
It's not "advice" Vance is a gift because he's such a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. He's weird and unpopular, his media spots and rallies aren't helping, but you're stuck with him. He's your unpopular weirdo now. It's going to look weak and like poor judgement if Trump gets rid of him, but he's not helping the campaign much being around either.
“Weird” the new term of the left. Look at every leftist media outlet at that’s the montage. You used to have a position, albeit left, but would have an outside observation. Not anymore. You are now taking Harry Reid’s position, make up sh!t and hope it sticks.
