The answer quite simply is in the words. Our world is a morass of acronyms and frankly, I hear many daily that I have no idea what they mean. So let’s dissect these two acronyms that illicit so much division among Americans. MAGA - Make America Great Again…. Absolutely no negative connotations associated with any of these words or their message. Previous generations didn’t sit on their duffs complaining. They went out and made life happen. Our ancestors were not entitled. They were empowered and did in fact believe that they lived in a great nation. And in the eyes of most Americans… It was. BLM - Black Lives Matter…. Of course they do but here’s the elephant in the room. The glaring omission here is that red lives, brown lives and white lives matter too. The words are the utter definition of division. Those that bore this acronym used it as a platform to inflict damage and harm. Words matter. Acronyms are a lazy man’s way to imply an agenda. In light of the facts, which acronym would you rather be associated with?
ALM for All Lives Matter . . . I figured I'd better stand for not dividing people, be they black, red, brown, white or unborn.
I disagree to both points. Regarding MAGA, when exactly was America last great? What would you like to go back to to make it "great again?" I think that's a negative connotation. It essentially says America is bad now, we have to fix it. Regarding BLM, of course all lives matter, but it was only black lives being treated as if they didn't matter. I genuinely don't understand why this is hard to grasp for those on the right.
I would simply respond by telling you to ask that very question of your grandparents. Human beings respond based on perception. If you perceive you are in a dangerous place, you respond accordingly. Previous generations believed we were a collective, united under one flag all with the same opportunities. And that in and of itself is was what made us great. Because it is exclusive and divisive in its message. It implies an “us against them” mentality. Like it or not, we are all in this together. And if we continue to laud one group or the other, then we continue to promote division.
GeneWright, posted: "I disagree to both points." It figures. Fortunately, due to your youth and lack of knowledge, I'm not surprised in the least with your opinion. WHAT A STUPID POST! "Regarding MAGA, when exactly was America last great? What would you like to go back to to make it "great again?" I think that's a negative connotation. It essentially says America is bad now, we have to fix it." Your opinion confirms my belief of the successful completion of the destruction of America's future. By brainwashing the youth of our country, we are left with this monkey business. Perhaps if you were living in America you would understand how bad it is in this country. You are not getting robbed, beaten, shot, burned out, or watching the decline of your dollar while your Liberty is being taken away. Your speech is not being muzzled while Big Brother is watching. YOU NEVER HAD THE BLESSING OF LIVING IN AMERICA WHEN IT WAS THE GREAT LEADER OF THE WORD IN ALL THINGS (including problems such as race). So what comes out of your pie hole is mostly ignorant crap as the your next statement. "Regarding BLM, of course all lives matter, but it was only black lives being treated as if they didn't matter. I genuinely don't understand why this is hard to grasp for those on the right." It figures. BLM is a corrupt concoction formed by race-baiters to cause a major disruption to our social system that gives rioters an excuse to loot and burn. You have proved by your limp defense of these enemies of America that BLM has sucked in many ignorant white snowflakes. BLM does not tolerate anyone saying that "ALL LIVES MATTER. " That should tell anyone with a brain who are the racists and what they are about. Posting with you is a waste of my time. If you would please take the time to become informed before posting this crap, it would make this place wonderful. WHERE ARE THE INFORMED COMUNISTS, MARXISTS, LIBERALS, DEMOCRATS, BLM'S, ETC. that can post knowledgeable disagreement? Please, please, please, start posting so the rest of us get to think and are challenged. I promise you will be treated with respect.
I wonder why, in fact, Bill Clinton said, “Make America Great Again”. I wonder when HE thought America was great? Probably during the Jim Crow years and before Civil Rights. That would be my guess. Or maybe before Hillary was born. Who can say? Ronald Reagan used the term, too. Of course, he was referring to America once again becoming the “shining city on a hill” that people of the world would aspire to come to and be productive in a new land. Donald Trump made the slogan popular, of course. I believe he was referring to taking America back to a country centered and grounded on a Constitution instead of having that Constitution perverted and decayed by a bunch of swamp-dwelling, entitled bureaucrats and sycophants. That’s what made his message so popular.
I know you lived it and I didn't, so I won't belabor this, but I suspect you see the past with some rose colored glasses. It does not imply an us against them mentality at all. It's not lauding a group, it's calling out that they need protection because if anything, they're being oppressed. Saying black lives matter isn't nearly as divisive as murdering black people disproportionately.
You may be right, but consider this. I grew up in a very poor household. My father ran off when I was ten and left my young mother with me and two much younger siblings. We were hand to mouth poor. My mother could have spent my formative years grumbling about how unfair life was but she did not. She instilled in me, my brother and my sister how fortunate we were even when we were quite literally eating pork and beans most days. Yes, I may very well have rose colored glasses, but I also know that each and every one of us are an accumulation of our life's experiences. We keep holding these young people down when we tell them how unfortunate and marginalized they are when they live in the one nation that fulfills dreams for those willing to put in the sweat equity. And that is the definition of a great nation.
I never liked MAGA - it implies that America is not great right now. Maybe not quite as great as it once was but I believe we are still the greatest country in the world.
@GeneWright, posted: "I know you lived it and I didn't, so I won't belabor this, but I suspect you see the past with some rose colored glasses." There you go again. @GeneWright, you are not posting with your ignorant ilk here You are posting with real men who lived it. WE DON"T WEAR THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES. That's for your ilk who don't have the ability to answer direct questions about the Biden Crime Family and don't care that democrats are allowing folks to steal up to $1000 without consequences except for the commercial stores and the "fabric" of our country. Sonny, we know the problems our country went through. Some here may have suffered because of them. I'm lucky. I didn't suffer from anything or if I did I didn't know it. HOWEVER, I never turned a blind eye or hid ANYTHING our country has done that I knew about in my lifetime or before. It comes down to a person being knowledgeable and truthful. The USA is no angel but it was ONE OF THE BEST places in the world to live. Replying to this CRAP is not worth anymore time - but I must: "It does not imply an us against them mentality at all. [Yes it does, BLM is a subversive group that is against the well-being of the USA] It's not lauding a group, it's calling out that they need protection because if anything, they're being oppressed. [What a bunch of Marxist crap! You are insulting a particular group of Americans who have cars, jobs, TV's, food, and a roof. You have no idea what being oppressed actually is.] Saying black lives matter isn't nearly as divisive as murdering black people disproportionately." [OMG, get a dictionary and look up the numbers. Enemies of America like BLM feed on the ignorance of you and your ilk to destroy my country! NORMAL PEOPLE do not burn a city when a man is murdered! What has BLM done about the killings in Chicago and Philadelphia? CLUE: NOTHING. If you had a brain and were informed, that would tell you the reason BLM exists.] @GeneWright Is Joe Biden a lying, corrupt, compromised President? _______________________________________ Stupid is as stupid posts.
Our beginnings appear to have been somewhat similar. My parents divorced when I was five and my brother was three, and I too was raised by a single mother. It was a long time before my father could afford a place of his own, so he lived out of state with his parents for quite some time. We were fortunate if we saw each other one weekend monthly. More than you, it sounds like, but still nowhere near enough. Motherless or Fatherless, the divided family dynamic is one which can hobble or harden a child. My surroundings were austere as well, and while my self-esteem was very low, feeling like I failed to measure up instilled in me a drive to achieve beyond my abilities. I had a chip on my shoulder for a very long time . . . a drive to compensate, if you will. I assume you can relate. I think most tend to assume a lot based on what is visibly obvious to them, and overlook much that is not. Adversity knows no racial bounds and the hardships we and so many others endured transcend racial boundaries many others assume they do not breach. The same goes for prosperity. The very notion that the deprived / oppressed can be visibly distinguished from the affluent / privileged by the color of one’s skin just reveals the shallowness of those who hold such beliefs. I can't count the number of white folks who are no less destitute and / or mistreated than black, red or brown folks, but it is not politically expedient for liberals to acknowledge their state of being, as that would undermine their divisive strategy.
