My thoughts: if her race and gender were so important to her voter base, she wouldn't EVER have been mayor of a city like Chicago. Maybe, just maybe, your actions have impacts on how people view you and not just bullsh*t characteristics like your skin or gender. Surprised she didn't throw in her sexuality too. Good riddance. Truly a shockingly inept leader and woman of questionable ethics. People like her are ruining our social fabric.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has attributed her loss in Tuesday’s election in part to racial and gender-based discrimination.

News One reported that after conceding Chicago’s mayoral election on Tuesday, Lightfoot was asked if she believed her race and gender had contributed to her loss.

“I’m a Black woman in America,” she replied. “Of course.”

Lightfoot has expressed versions of this sentiment since the beginning of her campaign.

NPR noted that when Lightfoot announced she would be seeking reelection back in June, she told supporters, “I’m a Black woman in America. People are betting against us every single day.”

Lightfoot told the New Yorker in a late February interview that she believed her race and gender contributed to her being “portrayed in the media” as an ineffective mayor.

“And, look, also, I am a Black woman—let’s not forget,” she told the publication. “Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

Lightfoot has only 17.1 percent of votes against Paul Vallas’s 33.8 percent share and Brandon Johnson’s 20.3 percent, the New York Times election dashboard indicates. With only six percent of the vote outstanding, it is possible to project that Lightfoot will fail to advance to the runoff election.

As Breitbart News noted Tuesday night, Lightfoot is the first Chicago mayor to lose a reelection bid in four decades.

The Chicago Sun-Times noted Lightfoot’s loss came at a time when “violent crime and the perception of it [are] foremost on the minds of voters.”

Chicago Police statistics show reports of serious crimes increased by 41 percent from the previous year in 2022.

ABC 7 Chicago noted in 2022 that Chicago’s murder rate per capita was four times higher than New York City’s.

Meanwhile, citing data from the Office of the Inspector General, CWB Chicago reportedthe Chicago Police Department had shrunk by more than 1,500 officers between Lightfoot’s inauguration in 2019 and 2023.

However, even as recently as January, Lightfoot expressed optimism about her approach to crime issues.

“When it comes to addressing crime in our city, I’ve got a plan — and it’s working,” she wrote in a tweet.

At a March 2022 symposium on “Mental Health, Substance Use, and Violence Prevention,” Lightfoot described violence as “a symptom of poverty,” CBS News reported.

“And if we want lasting peace in our city, we’ve got to address those root causes,” she added.

Lightfoot told the New Yorker in February, “The traditional strategy of law enforcement first and only, with nothing else, it does not work.”

Meanwhile, Vallas, who came in first place in the general election, ran a “disciplined campaign singularly focused on [a] law-and-order message,” per the Sun-Times.

Vallas and Johnson will advance to the runoff election, which is scheduled for April 4.

The age of standing on your ability and merit seems to be behind us as we have entered the age of excusing our poor performance on our heritage.

Just a question-which gender? She is gay, no?

Apparently, Lori allowed being female and black, neither of which are inherently impediments, to get in her way of making good decisions. The saying, "perception is reality" is supposed to be a Marketing truism, and not a self-induced limitation on one's own performance.

Ms. Lightweight has only herself to blame.

Again, she is gay. Which gender is she claiming harmed her?
Why dance around such BS claims?

She/he has a wife. Is she the husband, then?

I don't care if she is gay or not. However, using gender hate as an excuse for getting thrown out of office should not be allowed to stand without questioning.

What if she was thrown out because she is gay? Would she state it? Would the media?

Doesn't matter whether it's true or not. Preservation of the narrative is more important than the facts on the ground, which is why this nonsense gets repeated time and time again.

And that is the quandary of this whole mess. You cannot question the basis of alleged gender hate in our current climate. It is the perfect "Get out of jail free" card.

What nonsense? That she is gay, that she has a wife, that she lost because of gender? That she lost because of Race?

If Gender, which gender? Did women vote her out? Did men vote her out? DId the gay community vote her out?

If Race, which Race? Did Black or Asian or Caucasian or Spanish persons vote her out?

She/he has made claims. She/he should be called on it, instead of using Ideology Of Division Weapons to try to justify her loss.

She only got 16.9% of the vote. Chicago must be a city full of racist, chauvinistic, homophobic idealogues. But you know - they get to vote too.

I heard that it was a racist/bigoted/anti-gay/anti chicago bears/anti-white-black-asian-causcasion-little people town and that they hate Old Blue Eyes and that they sell votes much cheaper than the going market price. I also heard they are pizzed at the Kardashians.
I also heard they eat cats. Of particular note, I was told they wouldn't let Elvis go there because his song was over the top racist.

So that is probably some of the reasons she/he/it got thrown out.

Chicagoans obviously just don't like mayors who do absolutely nothing while in office and make their lives miserable. Sure, Chicago has had some bad mayors (I'm looking at you Rahm Emanuel), but this one takes the cake.

So much can be said about this . . .

Maybe if she went trans, her policies would change too ?

If being black and female caused you to lose this election, Ms. Lightweight, how did you get elected the first time around? I submit that it was your performance and not prejudice that reversed people's votes . . .

There's no beating around the bush, Ms. Lightweight . . . You are who you are, and you believe what you do . . . and that's why you've lost so much support . . . support you did not deserve in the first place.

Truth in editing . . . added, "support you did not deserve in the first place."

She should blame her party. They decided to replace her.
