Senator Sinema. That is interesting, and going to leave a mark. Oh well.... having my usual Albacore Tuna sandwiches for supper this evening. It is Friday.
Indeed. Very interesting to see how this might play out. I thought something like this might happen, but I figured it would probably be Manchin. But, Sinema works as well.
Republicans should actively be courting Sinema. Now that she's quit the Democrat Party, she could possibly be swayed to become a Republican. Let's hope for the best. https://www.foxnews.com/media/liber...emocratic-party-still-great-being-f-ing-worst
If Venezuela O'Crazio Kotex is mad because Sinema is leaving the Democrat Party, then it must certainly be a good thing. If the Democrat Party is populated by socialist whiners like VOK then who, in their right mind, would want to remain?
You know all that the mouthing off by AOC did? It guaranteed that Sinema will caucus with Republicans. AOC will definitely get an ouch in that upcoming ethics investigation now. What a political dunce. Schumer is going berserk that the House democrats let her mouth off. This is great stuff. You couldn't believe this was not a fiction novel if someone told you it really occurred.
If I had a bunch more of these nothing burgers I could starve to death before night fall . she will still caucus with the dems, and this nomenclature distinction amounts to zilch. She was destined to be primaried anyway and this was her last hope of any power. She won't be missed.
My read on Sinema is that she's deeply unpopular, and insulating herself for her next election. Arizona Dems have been calling to primary her at the next opportunity for a while now, and her approval rating is abysmal. Since she switched to independent, she no longer has to run in a primary, and implicitly threatens to split the vote if the Dems run someone else. Unless she truly has no principles and actually is just interested in power, I wouldn't get too excited about Republicans turning her. Though a controversial figure, she has still voted party line over 95% of the time in the current session of Congress.
She and Manchin still come through and vote with Democrats most of the time. This is an interesting development but I doubt much will come of it besides Sinema gaining a bit of power since the Dems still want to have control in the Senate. Another interesting question is what will happen if she does run for reelection (she might not). Since a registered independent can't run as a Democrat or Republican in Arizona, we could see a three person race in 2024. Who will that help? Will Sinema take more votes away from the Democrats or the Republicans?
Also, will anyone else become an independent in the Senate? Romney might be an option as his chances of winning a primary in Utah have declined. In the extreme case, you could actually end up with an independent caucus of vulnerable 2024 senators: Manchin, Sinema, Romney, Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, and Tammy Baldwin. Then a few more who aren't up for election (like Murkowski and Collins) could join them.
Only my opinion, but I suspect more reps. will begin riding the Independent lane hoping to entice voters' ballot bullets from both sides. After all, nothing is more important to them than maintaining their seat at the big table, the power of the position and the ability to accrue a fat financial portfolio.
