Time to abolish the Department of Education

    With all the information coming out about the education system, it looks like the Department of Ed needs to go and the funds should go to the states and be regulated by the people via their elected representatives.

    I think there are more departments than just one that should be axed.

    The feds are running our lives, thanks to the lazy, dependent embrace of big government

    Department of Education needs to go, you’re right.

    unfortunately; though, it would negatively impact the worst off of our states. Getting rid of it may be even worse than just keeping it.

    of course, states are inherently above or below average in education. Mine is low. On one hand, they changed our letter grades to 1-2-3-4 grading making no distinction between average students and the gifted.

    on the other hand, more consistency across my state did lead to the discovery that 1/3 of our students are behind in math and reading comp.

    How do you come to make that assumption? The current funding level of states can continue by sending it directly from the treasury to the states. Eliminating the Department of Education will increase the amounts to the individual states by doing away with the administration and legacy costs. The states will be beholden only to their citizens and not wasting money on federal mandates. Yes, some will fail but they are most likely the ones failing now.
