Democrats = The Party of "No". But, the Democrats have little power now, so they're basically just along for the ride. I hope Trump steamrolls over them like Obama did with Obamacare. Hahahhh..... Obamacare.... it's funny to even say that word anymore. I would say, "it was good while it lasted", but it wasn't....
While the agreement is obviously good news for the workers who’ll keep their jobs, let’s not lose sight of the relevant details Donald Trump doesn’t want to talk about. 1. Carrier jobs are still moving to Mexico. While the company will receive $7 million in taxpayer money to keep roughly 800 jobs in Indiana, the Wall Street Journal reports that Carrier “still plans to move 600 jobs from the Carrier plant to Mexico,” plus moving another 700 other jobs that will be lost when it closes a separate plant in Huntington, Ind. In other words, under Trump’s alleged triumph, the one that will teach a valuable lesson to American companies, Carrier is shipping 1,300 jobs from Indiana to Mexico, even as receives millions of dollars from the state. 2. This is the exact opposite of what Trump said he’d do. As a presidential candidate, Trump mocked government efforts to keep employers stateside with grants, tax incentives, and low-interest loans. Candidate Trump said that approach “doesn’t work,” which is why he’d use a stick rather than a carrot: “What you do is you tell them, ‘You move to Mexico, you`re going to pay a 35 percent tax bringing these products that you make in Mexico back into the country.’” Source
Do you believe that's what "DRAIN THE SWAMP!" meant? If so, what evidence do you have to support that line of thinking?
So you want me to prove what I think? Really? BTW, did you give up trying to accuse him of not being presidential enough? And technically, he is not even president-elect yet. You are going to have your head full when he is actually president.
Dumbass President Obama didn't know how to keep the jobs at Carrier. And yet Trump, who isn't even president yet, accomplished that very thing! Listen to Obama make a fool of himself: Just so Obama will know how it was accomplished, Carrier released the reason WHY they decided to keep those jobs in the US: "Today's announcement is possible because the incoming Trump-Pence administration has emphasized to us its commitment to support the business community and create an improved, more competitive U.S. business climate". Hmmmmmmm.... that's something Obama never tried, but he should have. America would be in much better shape had he started that philosophy 8 years ago instead of watching helplessly as American businesses left our shores in droves. Thank goodness this clown is leaving the White House next month and thank all that's holy that Hillary won't be able to continue the failed policies of the Obama administration. Thank you, American voters!
Donald Trump: "There will be consequences for companies that want to move jobs over seas." Consequences: A gift of 7 million dollars. Half the jobs still moving over seas. Tax payers get to foot the bill. And of course Trump will come to your state and brag about being such a good deal maker.
He hasn't even made president-elect yet, but he managed to do what Obama couldn't be bother to try. Maybe that should tell you why the democrats are turning into a third party.
$7 million is a drop in the bucket and we have 1100 taxpayers jobs saved to help foot the bill. Plus, the $16 million investment from Carrier will create new jobs, new opportunity for expansion and increase the tax base even more. Heck, this deal is no where near as good a deal for Carrier as they had negotiated back in 2013 (and which they were forced to repay when they announced they were leaving). Trump & Pence laid down the law & cut a fantastic deal that benefits everyone involved. I wonder why Obama and the union were so content to just let the company leave?
A huge tariff & the loss of government contracts were a couple of the consequences Carrier didn't want Trump to drop on them! Merry Christmas, President Trump!!!
If, when Trump led chants of "DRAIN THE SWAMP!" he was referring to Democrats, then it should be a simple matter to show that's what was going on. I think you know perfectly well that isn't what "DRAIN THE SWAMP!" meant, but if making things up satisfies some puerile need of yours, then carry on. Just for a moment, I'll play along with your make-believe world. Steven Mnuchin, the slimeball that decided to make a fat profit off of the misery of thousands of people who lost their homes in the recent financial crisis, and who Trump wants for Treasury Secretary, has a history of supporting Democrats, and also has strong ties to George Soros. Wilbur Ross, the creep who owned the Sago coal mine and ignored warnings about safety violations there before the disaster that killed 12 coal miners, and who Trump has picked to be Commerce Secretary, was also an officer of the New York State Democratic Party. If Trump was referring to Democrats when he led chants of "DRAIN THE SWAMP!" then he was lying. I will be interested to see you cite me accusing Trump of "not being presidential enough." I have said negative things about him, but I don't recall saying that.
Yes, and Hillary was a Republican and Reagan a democrat. So? Your entire line is he lies, he flip-flops, he is "DUMB", etc. all of which I associate with being unpresidential. I assumed you would also, but after Obama, who knows.
In total, this deal covers 1,100 jobs. However, 300 of those jobs were never going to Mexico in the first place. Secondly, Carrier is still planning on moving 600 jobs from the Indianapolis plant to Mexico. Additionally, they will be closing a plant in Huntington, Indiana and sending those 700 jobs to Mexico. In short, Trump’s deal cost the taxpayers $7 million and only saved 800 out of the 2,100 jobs that were at risk. That’s a success rate of less than 40 percent. One would think Trump would be a bit better at making deals since he built his campaign around his business career.
Even excluding your erroneous numbers, Obama cost the taxpayers $21,000,000 per year and that is assuming that the lost employees only pay 10% tax (absurdly low) and do not receive unemployment, retraining, snap, etc. and excluding the spin-off jobs. Therefore, (with my ridiculously low assumptions) the payback for that $7,000,000 is about 10 months and that excludes the $16,000,000 Carrier will additionally spend and the other jobs saved as a spin off. All-in-all, my guess is the true payoff for the $7,000,000 would be about 1 month. I realize you are mathematically challenged, so you might try having you PHD wife or "genius" kid explain it to you. BTW, that was done while Trump was a private citizen and your god Obama was president.
Even Caribou Barbie can't get on board with this and calls it what it is. Sarah Palin Slams Donald Trump’s Carrier Deal as ‘Crony Capitalism’ “Republicans oppose this sinfully stupid practice, remember?” she reminded the president-elect. 12/02/2016 08:52 pm ET Mary Papenfuss Trends reporter, The Huffington Post Rick Wilking / Reuters Sarah Palin warns Republicans in Op Ed piece that ‘we’re doomed’ if we continue ‘corporate welfare.’ Tea party standard-bearer Sarah Palin, under consideration to join Donald Trump’s cabinet, has just blasted the tax deal the president-elect negotiated with Carrier, condemning it as “crony capitalism.” Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence helped arrange $7 million in Indiana tax breaks over 10 years for Carrier in exchange for the company’s promise to keep about 800 of 1,400 jobs in the U.S. instead of moving them to Mexico. In addition, Trump threatened to impose a stiff tariff on Carrier products if they sent all of the work across the border. “Republicans oppose this, remember?” Palin wrote in an op-ed Friday on the Young Conservatives website. “Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail. “A business must have freedom to locate where it wishes,” the piece continued. “In a free market, if a business makes a mistake (including a marketing mistake that perhaps Carrier executives made), threatening to move elsewhere claiming efficiency’s sake, then the market’s invisible hand punishes. Thankfully, that same hand rewards, based on good business decisions.” She warned that “picking and choosing” which company darlings receive “corporate welfare” is a “hallmark of corruption” and “socialism.” A “$20 trillion debt-ridden country can’t afford this sinfully stupid practice, so vigilantly guard against its continuance, or we’re doomed,” she urged. Palin left wiggle room in the piece for Trump to redeem himself. “Gotta have faith that the Trump team knows all of this,” she wrote hopefully, and promised to be the first to dismiss concerns if details of the deal prove her wrong once they’re publicly released. In a bit of cognitive dissonance, Palin also said she was “ecstatic” for Carrier workers. “What a relief for hundreds of workers. Merry Christmas Indiana!” she gushed. Palin is hardly the only “free market” Republican disturbed by the deal. The Wall Street Journal issued its own op-ed Thursday called “Trump’s Carrier Shakedown” noting that real job security depends on a company’s strength in the marketplace. “If the extra costs of staying in Indianapolis erode that business, those workers will lose their jobs eventually in any case,” the Journal warned, adding: “Workers don’t prosper when politicians force companies to make noneconomic decisions.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has also attacked Trump’s deal, saying it signals to corporations that they can get significant tax breaks as long as they threaten to export jobs. Despite the deal, Carrier is still shifting some production to Mexico, and at least 600 Carrier positions will be cut. Carrier’s parent company, United Technologies, will also move ahead with closing a separate Indiana plant and laying off 700 workers. The union at the Carrier factory was cut out of negotiations to save their jobs, Chuck Jones, president of the local chapter of the United Steelworkers union that represents the plant, told The Huffington Post. There was no immediate reaction from Trump on the criticisms from Palin or the Journal. He has touted the deal and this week did a victory tour of the Indianapolis factory.
