This is an email I just received. I think it has some merit.

    Perspective

This puts everything in perspective. .

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with
seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the
patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs,
    the table...everywhere.

Then some of the birds turned mean:

They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed
them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded
that I fill it when it go t low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I
took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.

I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built
all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quiet,
serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal

Now lets see...our government gives out free food, subsidized
housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born
here to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes
went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families:
you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your
child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class
    doesn't speak English:

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to
hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than
"Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more
    rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Mr. Dan, it is the moaners and groaners. My mom was an English/Science teacher. My Dad was only a science teacher.

I'm sorry to say that illegal aliens will continue to come here whether or not there are government programs, unless the flow is controlled. It's still better here than there, and employers enjoy the cheap labor. It even extends into the legal category since it is less expensive to bring an Asian engineer to the US than to hire a US citizen with an engineering degree. An even better solution is to send the job to Asia and let the US engineer flip burgers. Expect this to continue until the standard of living in the US drops to match the third world.

Allright, I am going to give it to you the way things are. You can either accept or reject. Roll with the flow, the Mexicans long for Mexico and it is a very beautiful country. If you date an island woman then her island is the most beautiful island in the world.

We attracted the birds with our promise of food thus enabling them to survive literally.
We wanted their pretty colors and beautiful songs (cheap labor), but the second that the birds began to behave like birds and demand equal treatment, the price became too high.
The birds became the source of all that is wrong with our porch.
The wood needed to be sealed and it was the birds fault, the railing was loose and it was the birds fault, the barbecue grill needed more propane and it was the birds fault.
Never mind that we could sit on our porch all night because mosquitoes had completely vanished.

The point is that you want all of the cheap labor, inexpensive produce, economic growth without all of the perceived problems that this underclass of laborers, that are no better than animals, brings as a consequence. Well guess what, it doesn't work that way. You have to take the good with the bad. If wealthy land owning farmers want to stay in business they can't afford to pay Americans to do the back breaking work illegal aliens do so cheaply. Manufactures can't hire workers at the low wages Illegals will work for so they either have to raise the price of their products and go out of business or perish for lack of laborers.

Illegal aliens would not come here if American industry and farmers didn't hire them. They have put up bird feeders and the only way to stop illegal aliens is to make the penalties so high for hiring illegal aliens that no one would dare do consider it. You drain the bird feeders and the birds stop coming. But do you ever here anyone talk about holding farmers and manufacturers accountable? NO! All you hear is people blaming the birds for coming to feed. Now how dumb is that? Nail the real source of the problem and it goes away over night. You will have to deal with the economy taking a nose dive, food prices climbing dramatically, and countless business closures at time when we are in a very competitive global market. So what, anything to get rid of illegal aliens, right?

Of course not Cody. But when you use a metaphor and compare immigrants to birds, you are sort of calling them nothing more than animals. If you can take the natural behavior a group of animals and extrapolate that to a distinct group of people, it isn't exactly racism but it is demeaning and trivializing to them.
Sometimes metaphors make it seem easy for some people to understand difficult complex issues but metaphors rarely capture the essence of the real situation even if it seems like they are similar in nature. It is very telling just who these people are when you hear comments like, "That really puts it in perspective" because it really doesn't.

If you want to kill Humming Birds then set up a bird feeder with red colored sugar water. The birds will forget about the flowers and go for the sugar water that is empty calories, the same for bird feeders with seed. What you do is teach the animals to be reliant on man and not their own devices. It is "feel good" politics but only harms the other species in the long run. Same for human beings, if you feed poor human beings you teach them to be reliant on other human beings and when the food source (it cannot last forever) dries up they perish. This has been proved time and time again with animal studies. First the boost in population and then the crash. I think we are better off to let everyone rely on their own wits and not intervene. Darwin?

Social Darwinism is the idea that Charles Darwin's theory can be extended and applied to the social realm, i.e. that just as competition between individual organisms drives biological evolutionary change (speciation) through "survival of the fittest" (not a scientific term itself), competition between individuals, groups, nations or ideas drives social evolution in human societies.

The term was popularized in 1944 by the American historian Richard Hofstadter, and has generally been used by critics rather than advocates of what the term is supposed to represent (Bannister, 1979; Hodgson, 2004).

While the term has been applied to the claim that Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection can be used to understand the social endurance of a nation or country, social Darwinism commonly refers to ideas that predate Darwin's publication of his theory. Others whose ideas are given the label include the 18th century clergyman Thomas Malthus, and Darwin's cousin Francis Galton who founded eugenics towards the end of the 19th century.

Some claim that it supports racism on the lines set out by Arthur de Gobineau before Darwin published his theories, which directly contradict Darwin's own work. This classification of social Darwinism constitutes part of the reaction against the Nazi regime and the Holocaust.

I couldn't have said it better myself, so I didn't.

    Inaccurate post. "Illegals" pay MORE
in taxes because they do not get a refund (that is part of having a fake ss #). You may want to become more familiar with the issue before posting on it.

Most of the illegals do not pay a dime in taxes. Its all cash work. Where you get some of these ideas of yours really amazes me.

Some day workers do work for cash that is true but many, many provide false SS#'s and have SS deducted from their pay that they will never collect on. Obviously no one has an accurate figure on how many illegals use fake SS#'s or work for cash, but there is a booming trade in the heart of L.A. for fake SS cards. That ought to tell you something. Not only do they pay SS, they pay State and Federal taxes as well. I don't know where you get the idea, "Most of the illegals do not pay a dime in taxes", but I rather thing it comes from somewhere around your emotional half and not the half that should be doing the thinking.
If our government chooses not to enforce our immigration laws and our business community choose to ignore our immigration laws, who is really to blame for people crossing the border seeking a better life? We didn't elect the illegal immigrants to enforce our laws we did elect those responsible for doing nothing. We continue to by products from companies that entice illegals to cross the border with the promise of looking the other way when it comes to immigration status. You can blame immigrants all you want if it makes you feel better but the problem will never be solved until the government begins to enforce the laws of this land and some business owners start to do serious time in jail. The problem would be solved over night.
