Here is a question for you...about labels... Bonedigger mentioned labels...and he is right...labels are thrown around on this forum everyday. I am in no way a liberal...or I dont think of myself as a liberal...I am rather conservative in most things....yet I have been constantly lumped with liberals...and labeled this. No objections from anyone that I am being unfairly labeled. Nor do they care if I disgree with it or if it is wrong. I in no way support terrorism....I simply believe that not all muslims are bad people...for this view I have been labeled and 'appeaser' among other more offensive labels. I in no way wish to appease anyone, but that is the label thrown as me....It has even been suggested that I am gay…in not so many words. Is racist not just like this? a label...obviously people judged me a liberal muslim appeaser and have since labeled me that. I might object to such labels but that would not stop anyone from using them...I dont agree that I am an appeaser or support terror...its a harsh label...but it has been placed on me all the same...I didn’t have anyone coming out trying to defend me…or saying its wrong to label me this way…someone even suggested that I would, like a terrorists…chop heads off!! If one judges a person, by his words, to be a racist....is it wrong for one to call him that? When is it wrong to label people? where is that line...what makes one label worse than the other… cloud seems to think anything I say on the internet cannot be racist...I could call for the death of all black people and that wouldn’t be racist....thats one view point...other would say that is crossing the line...that it would be racist… Some think that if you do not think the muslim religion needs to be eliminated and that all muslims are evil….you are an appeaser…others think its best to judge the people and their action and how they practice it and not label them all evil. Why do people not seem to have a problem labeling people 'uneducated'...'uninformed'...'liberal'....'terrorist'...'appeaser'....but seem to have some problem labeling someone a racist? Why is it that if a person labels another a racist he is somehow thin skinned or irrational emotional reaction but if they incorrectly label a person ‘liberal’ or ‘appeaser’ among many others that might even be worse…that’s just fine? Maybe it’s the difference of people passing out these labels? And how much you relate to them and what they believe? I don’t know… BTW..this is not about interracial marriage or any one person but honestly about the problem, or double standard, people seem to have about labeling someone...
I dont like lables & if someone finds themselfs been labled in a way that they find offensive all they have to do is pm me & I am quite happy to look into it. I dont think all Muslims are evil and have stated it on a number of occasions am I an appeser I doubt it very much, in a lot of respects I am more right wing than most of you To me race, colour & religion have never realy enterd my way of treating folks & I cant understand those who have problems with people who look & act differently!! Can I ask those who have served if they ever worried about the religion or race or even sexual preference of the guy next to them? I doubt it very much as long as you knew they would be there for you. In a political argument then yep Mr A will call Mr C a darn Liberal & Mr C retaliates by calling Mr A a fascist, that is going to happen regardless I dont condone racist remarks and will & have said so on a number of occasions, I will though engourage civilized discussion on the topic LOL (Not sure if you guy's are ready for that yet)
Labels are the exclusive domain of the weak-minded. Hey maybe I have a new signature line addition here. :thumb:
Is another word for "labels"...adjectives...you know, descriptions of people's beliefs, behavior, and/or values? Of course if I describe a person like Moen as a liberal appeaser, I can back it up with fact, references, and examples. It's nothing personal. It is what it is! For instance, wouldn't you agree that most liberals believe in more government in our lives through income redistribution at the expense of people that work and produce for this country? I believe in the individual...so wouldn't that person be described as a "liberal" when it comes to fiscal policy? Of course, the Moens of the world like to point out their rare exceptions, rather than the rule... and then inturn slam me for "painting" everything as "black or white" in a simplistic terms. They can't articulate facts, logic and basic math...so hence, I am then labeled as a Nazi because I believe in fiscal control and a strong national defense. It usually happens when the "other side" of the political spectrum can't debate with logic and rational. Hmmmmmmmmm. I don't mind being called a fiscal conservative. I am proud of it. I don't try to "sugar-coat' it by replacing liberal labels with feel good labels like "progressive" or "taxes" with B.S. sound bites like: "more investments in America". How about the label or adjective for "true" muslims? If you follow islam as per the koran and the actions and deeds of their founding terrorist prophet...well, I have no problem describing the people that commit jihad that is favored upon by "true" muslims as "animals". You have a better adjective? I mean, label?
You are right...the word "adjective" is noun. BTW...We can use a noun as an adjective when it precedes a noun that it modifies; a mountain bike is a bike designed for riding up mountains. 'Mountain' functions as an adjective modifying the noun 'bike'. The second noun takes the plural form, while the first behaves like an adjective and consequently does not, unless the word is normally used in the plural (sports hall) or refers to people (women footballers). We use these for well-known things, some can be hyphenated and some are written as one word. I hope that helps...sorry for any confusion
Gosh this is sure a quiet forum, now that I've taken Moen's advice and placed you know who on 'ignore'.
Okay. I thought you were talking about labels such as... Midas is a conservative. Moen is a liberal. xxxx is a racist. xxxx is a terrorist. ...which would be nouns.
So you are saying that if you observe something that a person does or says, and the label fits...then that label should be used and if the person or people dont like being labeled that...its not your fault because you are able to show instances where the person has exhibited behavior to make the label true. It nothing personal...just the truth as you have observed it. Like when you call all muslims animals...many people would find that offensive and take exception to labeling a huge group of diverse human beings as animals. But that isnt YOUR problem because you are simply stating (over and over and over and over again) what you have observed. Its nothing personal...just you stating the 'truth' as you have seen it. I think a lot of people here probably agree with you as well. So if one were to observe a person exhibiting extremely racist behavior...let say they say all black people should be killed. There should be no objection labeling him or her a racist and pointing this out...as you do with liberal muslim animal appeasers...all the time...and if that person, or people around him or her doesnt agree with the label or finds it offensive...its nothing personal...it just being truthful... interesting point of view...
I think we found Drusus' hot button. lol Labels can be fun, particularly when someone thinks they are one thing and it is pointed out that they are what they despise most. Everyone is going to use labels no matter what is said, so embrace the horror.
(Sigh)...I guess you didn't read my above post. "True" muslims that follow the koran as their founding terrorist mohammad intended with its koran where well over 100 passages of fighting and killing are fueling this "animal" behavior...well...you can understand why "true" muslims can be easily described and/or "labeled" as "animals" no differantly than how many American G.I.'s described/labeled the horrors they witnessed care of the Nazis's who were fighting and dying for their 'Fatherland'. You may be afraid to use labels or adjectives to describe actions by a group of people... Me? I don't care and if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck...well, silly me...I am going to describe it or label it as a "duck". Remember...I never called or labeled "moderate" muslims or "not muslim enough muslims" as animals...just the ones the follow islam like the pedophile mohammad intended, nothing more. I applaud "not muslim enough" muslims and "moderate" muslims because they are trying to hijack and change the religion to adopt to modern civilization. Hence the reason why "true" muslims are trying to kill these people for what upsets "true" muslims just as bad as a Jew or any infidel is a muslim that doesn't follow the koran. ...as mohammad intended.
Indeed. I was labeled in this forum with a tag that the labeler thought insulting, but I took as compliment.
Labels often seem a one way street. It often seems that labels from a minority to a majority are ok but reverse it and everyone gets their panties in a jumble. It is more acceptable to call a white person a racist than a member of a minority group. It is more acceptable to denigrate the Christian religion than Islam. 'Right wing nut job' is a-ok, etc, etc.
Baloney! You people are children, what is the difference betweeen hitting a target and missing a target. If you miss the target then you have to get angry at the target. I was not my fault, the enemy moved before the round arrived. After that we were confused and I was accused of all kinds of criminal acts. The worst being was that I did not have my seat belt fastened and then lied about it. I feel sorry for the *******! Of course I had 38 missiles and 1500 bullets. Battle me you sorry goat. Goat is a very bad thing to tell them. I used to use the word swine! I am just kidding, I told them that their ancestors are unworthy of battle and all of the children will bite the bulllet!
I kind of like it, as this should keep Drusus busy for the next couple of days just trying to decipher the code.
