Who do you feel is responsible for the re-emergence of Al-quaida? It is disconcerting that that group's strength is at a level equal to that of 2001. Why werent they being watched?
Because USA was busy stirring stuff up in Irak instead of knock off Pakistan, Afghan and the real enemies.
You armchair stradegists don't get it. There are too many holes in the dam and the water is leaking out. We don't have enough fingers to plug up all the holes. Or there are too many holes in the boat and we should get ready to start swimming.
While their level may be as high or even higher, the level of operational effectiveness is vastly lower than pre 9/11.
I'm not convinced that al Qaeda is stronger as a unified organization. It may have become a "brand name" that is used by any small group anyplace in the world that opposes the US. But how can any of us really know? I doubt that any credible information about this is made public, and anything you read or hear in the media is suspect.
Gee, I hope it doesnt take another horrific attack to convince you. The information came from the White House not news outlets. And I heard it myself from the Packistani ambassador. His counrty will not allow the US access to Packistan in order to quell al-Qaeda. Some ally. And that country is about to shift governments. for the better, I hope.
Islamic cancer has spread to Pakistan where most experts believe that al Qaeda is getting safe haven. Bin Laden is a hero to these animals in this part of the world. Al Qaeda is just one of many islamic terrorist groups. The press trys to lump all islamic terror as al Qaeda, but make no mistake...there are hundreds of islamic animals groups that fight their own version of jihad for islam...Al Qaeda has caused us the most harm, so far. I am asking who do you think is responsible for letting them re- emerge. I mean instead of catching me with a nail clipper and seeing my holey socks, how could the US allow the whole Afganistan taliban/al-qaeda thing to strengthen? Why wasnt our government, at the very least, looking in on them from time to time?
The biggest group operating in my area is Jaysh al-Mahdi, (JAM). They're the guys hitting us with rockets & mortars, and hitting up our convoys. Al-Qaeda in Iraq makes the news headlines, but I've never read a serious incident report involving them and us. And even though they're the biggest of the anti-Iraq forces, (AIF), I've never seen JAM get referenced on any news station.
The White House needs this to be true because of the position they are in. If they are telling the truth this time, they shouldn't be surprised if folks don't believe them because of all of the other misstatements over the years. It would make sense for the US to get the troops out of the Middle East. Israel, Pakistan, Russia, China and India are all nuclear powers surrounding our military. We have three carrier battle groups in the Gulf. A lot can go wrong. Not much can go right. General Patton was once quoted as saying, "Never fight a battle if nothing is gained by winning." That's sort of the position the administration has put us in.
In the states, we never hear about anything other than Al Qaeda in reference to attacks and threats from this administration. The Iraq/Al Qaeda connection was sold to the American public so well prior to the war that many here still think this whole operation is about Al Qaeda. The increased Al Qaeda presences in Iraq these days, albeit small in comparison to the local insurgents, is only there in the first place because we are there. We are not killing Al Qaeda terrorists as much as we are serving as a recruitment tool for their cause. I wonder what the ratio of those killed or injured by Al Qaeda as opposed to local insurgents really is. We'll probably never know. "Just Another Soldier" by a vet from Iraq named Hartley I believe is pretty telling about what we are facing without the administration spin.
Like talking to wood. These arent answers to the question folks. Lets focus on al-qaeda. Whatever you think al-qaeda is. Whatever the US government thinks al-qaeda is. I am talking about the goat loving group that is hiding in the mountains between Pakistan and Afganistan. Those guys. Them. How could the US government let THEM grow to pre 9/11 numbers? And please no Aidian work insipid comments like ''Afganistan grows poppy''. Thank you.
Let me throw the question back at you in a slightly different form, how do you think the US could have stopped the growth? To be honest there is not a lot that any one can do to stop recruitment to these causes. I dont care if you turned all of the muslim world into tv loving democratic countries, there are allways those who will rebel against it. Just look at the Red Brigade or the Baader-Meinhof most of the members came from middle class families yet commited act's of terrorism ! The majority of the Muslim based terrorist come from the uneducated section of the population and are swayed by religious fevor. In the end those who control such movements arer after one thing & one thing only power, the foot soldiers are expendable. All that you can do is to try to contain it, take out the leaders were possible and I dont mean imprisonment but kill them & dont publicese it either that just creates martyrs to the cause, you just let them wonder drop hints about defections to Disnyland.
You are right...these islamic terrorists have to be quietly killed because martyrdom is revered in Islam (something about cashing in on 72 virgins). You don't want to give these muslims something to celebrate. But then again, if everything is kept so quiet as we kill these muslim animals...the civilized world will think that nothing is being done as we fight this war. Then the headlines will read, "No progress...more US servicemen killed". Muslim appeasers will then cry out, "See...where are losing this war!" True...most of "true" muslims that live in these hell holes are uneducated and hence, they can be easily manipulated to follow this cult religion as they bang their heads to the cement 5 times daily. Remember...all you have to do is blame the "great satan" (United States) and Israel for all of your ills to get "true" muslims acting like animals. BUT...many of these muslim are getting educated in OUR schools and universities and returning back to these islamic hell holes and applying their new learned know-how on how to conduct their islamic jihad. Case in point were those islamic terrorist DOCTORS who wanted to kill all of those infidels outside British nightclubs less than a month ago. What was their excuse? Poverty? Greed? Money?...no, there excuse was ISLAM and conducting jihad for their allah. So...jihad from the likes of these islamic terror groups is not just regulated to stupid muslims that live in goat tents, but jihad is the DUTY of every "true" muslim as evidenced by their ACTIONS throughout the world.
Wrong! We call it islamic terrorism while the muslim world calls it jihad. This jihad was occuring well before 9/11 and now, we are simply paying more attention to it since we have been attacked on our soil by these islamic animals. The logic is clear...there is no such animal as a "peaceful" or "moderate" muslim because to be muslim one must accept ALL the teachings of Islam or die if one tries ro renounce them. Since jihad is a teaching of Islam, every good muslim must adhere to it, no matter how bloody it gets. The most the muslim will do is protest when other muslims are killed; you will hear no such protests about the killing of non-muslims. Therefore, peace and moderation can never be part of the muslim stance to the rest of the world that is Christian or Jewish, or Hindu, or whatever. No muslim will decry recruitment for jihad in the mosques because jihad is central to islam. Take away jihad, you take away the proliferation of islam, and you also say that mohammed was wrong. Therefore, muslims will engage in all manner of semantic contortions about jihad, but they will never renounce it because islam needs jihad. For example, since muslims believe islam is the only true religion and all others are apostate, jihad is the means by which those who resist are to be brought into islam, whether they want it or not. Since, to islam, jihad is as the Lord's Supper or the Cross is to Christianity, what need is there to admit openly that recruitment for it goes on? Does the Christian Church need to admit that the Lord's Supper is part of the divine service and that people engage in it? No. It's just a fact of Christian life and worship. Ditto, with jihad with regard to Islam. However, since the Lord's Supper doesn't require Christians to kill anyone, Christians have no need to lie about it if asked. Because communion is peaceful and reverent, Christians also have no need to define it as other than it is to make it palatable to non-Christians. That is not the case for jihad of Islam. Conscious of the truly bloody nature of jihad, and knowing that the teachings of Islam permit lying as a way of advancing jihad, muslims will lie to Christians and others who do not take the time to discover what jihad really is. To recap, muslims will not renounce jihad; they will lie about the its true meaning; and, by lying about jihad, they advance it. Therefore, there can be no peaceful or moderate muslim since all "true" muslims, by their action, inaction, or their words, advance jihad. The recruitment for islamic jihad was well on before 9/11 and will continue well after Iraq whether we leave or stay.
Islam is terribly misunderstood by the west, and you must also realize that not all things which are fully understood are necessarily safe, healthy, and friendly...
