Did you notice that headlines are beginning to appear in the media like "Al-Qaeda rebuilds capabilities", and "Homeland Security Chief has gut feeling U.S. attack is imminent this summer"? Nothing specific but just enough to heighten the fear level. Keep an eye out for more nondescript news stories involving attacks and terrorism. Keeping the fear level high is necessary to maintain control of public opinion. Bush wants to go out on a high note.

well...to read the article I read (which you dont site)...its not a general headline...pakistan has signed a peace agreement with tribal leaders in afghanistan and have done almost nothing to stop the flow of support to the taliban...

So its probably very true that the taliban and Al-Qaeda are recovering. Whether one likes to admit it or not, this means that most likely they will attack again as they DO hate the US and want to destroy us.

The conclusion suggests that the network that launched the most devastating terror attack on the United States has been able to regroup along the Afghan-Pakistani border despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.

Counterterrorism analysts produced the document, titled "Al-Qaida better positioned to strike the West." The document focuses on the terror group's safe haven in Pakistan and makes a range of observations about the threat posed to the United States and its allies, officials said

"They seem to be fairly well settled into the safe haven and the ungoverned spaces of Pakistan," Kringen testified. "We see more training. We see more money. We see more communications. We see that activity rising."

"Sooner or later you have to quit permitting them to have a safe haven" along the Afghan-Pakistani border, he told the House committee. "At the end of the day, when we have had success, it is when you've been able to get them worried about who was informing on them, get them worried about who was coming after them."
Several European countries — among them Britain, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands — are also highlighted in the threat assessment partly because they have arrangements with the Pakistani government that allow their citizens easier access to Pakistan than others, according to the counterterrorism official.


The threat assessment says that al-Qaida stepped up efforts to "improve its core operational capability" in late 2004 but did not succeed until December of 2006 after the Pakistani government signed a peace agreement with tribal leaders that effectively removed government military presence from the northwest frontier with Afghanistan. The agreement allows Taliban and al-Qaida operatives to move across the border with impunity and establish and run training centers, the report says, according to the official.

I have seen documentaries about this border, there is nothing keeping huge amounts of supplies and people from going across it...the border between afghanistan and pakistan is wide open....

Good, bad or otherwise...the fact of the matter is that islamic terrorism is NOTHING new. Islamic conquest and terrorism has been around since their terrorist prophet came out of the cave in a stupor and told his employer (His lover 15 years his senior) that he spoke to allah.

Bush is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't because you know that appeasers like you would be the first in line to butcher Bush if another terrorist attack took place on U.S. soil. "Appeaser" seems to be a word that war-lovers enjoy using. Nothing would upset them more than a negotiated peace even though this practice has been common for thousands of years. Nope. It's gotta be a fight to the death with nobody left alive to satisfy these "disappeasers." How they love death!

 

I agree that there are terrorist muslims out to destroy the US...I dont think they will succeed. I agree that there are groups out there plotting as I type this to kill Americans...I even agree that most likely the article is not just empty fear mongering...I have a feeling the reports are true that Taliban and other terrorists are growing stronger because of Pakistan's leadership and their fear to come down hard on these group.

for one, half the Pakistani secret service is in their pay and the Taliban was funded and supported by the Pakistani secret service

for two, musharif is not only in a tenuous position, I dont think he honestly cares...he has received billions to help us, enough money to actual cause a boom in the Pakistani economy...yet his military has APOLOGIZED for strikes against tribal leaders...signed truces with them (these people who are sheltering terrorists)...and if anyone reads the news they know that they have taken credit on the world stage for strikes WE have made that kill terrorists...and blames those who kill innocents on the US. This is a military dictator...but we support him because we know that if there are elections, the new man will not lay down for us...or at least pretend to.

for three...the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is wide open...truck loads of gold, silver, cloths, blankets, guns, ammo, and food cross unchecked every day...this is on tape...this is just the truth...these trucks are going to help terrorists and the Taliban...and if there is a group in Islam that needs to be destroyed, its the Taliban.

So I agree that most likely, common sense will tell anyone that any terrorist or Taliban are only growing stronger the more time that goes by there... we should have kept saddam contained and moved ALL our forces onto the Pakistan / Afghanistan border and moved into the tribal to kill the real perpetrators of 9/11...

No, all of islam is not the problem...but there is a problem with those who use it for an excuse to kill...Its just disturbing to see someone calling them all animals (as disturing as seeing them calling jews animals) but I do consider the source. there are millions of peaceful family men and women and children who have nothing to do, and never had anything to do, with terrorism...It solves nothing...But I think most people see such rhetoric for what it is...

First...these people are following islam as mohammad intended. It is the duty of EVERY "true" muslim to convert, enslave, tax and/or FIGHT infidels. Moderate muslims or those "not muslim enough" are hijacking this religion, not the other way around. People that follow islam as per the koran have, are, and will always be our enemy. History and the actions of "true" muslims make this very clear!

Two...with reports on how many muslims believe that suicide bombings are justified (26% of AMERICAN muslim men aged 18 to 40) and those throughout the muslim world who support Bin Laden, this is not just a "handful" of islamic terrorist animals, there are MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of them!

Three...think back to Nazi Germany Well guess what? I am sure that not every German was a hardcore Nazi, but we did what we had to do to KILL and DESTROY this madness...so we defeated the entire country...not just the SS who followed Hitler to their graves, but all of Germany and ALL of those Germans that told our troops they were not Nazis's as the ovens from their death camps bloomed down the road.
