What scares me is what happens when California, Illinois, and New York default...I ain't paying for their irresponsibility!

Oh God, NO! Not Illinois! Mr.RB swore up and down when they increased the taxes but left the government spending more than their income that that sacrifice was too great, but it would fix Illinois. Sounds like those Democrats really did a bang up job!

I guess a city propped up by organized crime (Chicago) has a bit more longevity than a city propped up by unions.

Really? ...Joe's from Illinois? My Brother lives just outside of Chicago (Naperville).

The one thing that's really annoying is that you have to put a stamp (sticker) on each bag of garbage you put out. The stamps cost about 75ยข each (as I recall). If you run out of stamps, you can't put out your garbage.

In a way, I guess it helps enforce recycling...which is good. But still...it's REALLY annoying!

Detroit is absolutely horrid now. I was a teenager in Detroit, High School, first job, etc.. It was so different than it is now. I had occasion to attend a function downtown last year, and I was on pins and needles the whole time. A really bad place, I'm sorry to say. I guess there's no surprise here regarding bankruptcy. Too much corruption for way too many years. It's very sad if you think about it.

I cannot imagine what can be done for any type of salvation (pensions etc..) by anyone, whether R or D or anything else..

    :(

Hopefully there will be a way to pay the pensions and still clean up this mess. This is what really pisses me off...Democrats say all the pretty things folks want to hear...with absolutely no intention of ever paying for it. They eat their meal and, when the check comes, they politely excuse themselves and head for the toilet.

Yes, it's Obama's fault that places like Michigan and California, economic powerhouses of industry for a century, collapsed under Reagan-omics, when millions, yes, millions, of jobs were shipped overseas. Poor, teenage Obama did it all.

So Reaganomics preceded President Reagan? Look it up. Steel collapsed in the 60's. Autos in the 70's. Aluminum in the 70's.

Then you agree blaming Obama for this is absurd. Thank you.

He's not blaming Obama (specifically)...Detroit is the result of unrealistic Liberal/Progressive economic policies. I agree with you, what happened to the City of Detroit is "absurd".

No more absurd than blaming Reaganomics for moving jobs overseas, but then I never said anything about Obama moving jobs overseas in the 80's. However, his policies are doing just that today.
