Danr, The 15% one time tax on all of our 401Ks' has been bounced around by the lliberal democrats for years. Jessie Jackson is in favor of it to show which direction it is coming from. I will have to research to provide some links but this is a real possibility with a democratic congress and president. Of course we all know about these "one time taxes". The liberals see the huge 401K fund as a bottomless pit from which to draw money for their programs.

Can you identify the source of this new production for us? At current decline rates, the first 5million barrels per day of new production goes toward just keeping supplies equal to the prior year. Saudi Arabia has been drilling like crazy and can't seem to get above 2005 production levels. The North Sea is in decline. Russia is in decline. Alaska is in decline. The UAE is in decline. Kuwait is in decline. Mexico is in decline. Venezuela is in decline. Indonesia is in decline. Iraq is in decline. The US is in decline. Canada is struggling to increase production by 3 million barrels per day by 2017 if the environmentalists don't stop them.. It's game over for oil Danr. Ethanol requires more BTUs of oil to produce and transport than it provides in fuel. No solution there unless you grow corn.

First 45 mpg cafe standards are significant and she WILL get that from a dem cong.

Detroit is not embracing the fuel-economy standards proposed in the Senate energy bill, but auto manufacturers are embracing the mandate for more homegrown fuels, such as ethanol.

Because GM and Ford build cars in Brazil, where ethanol powers half of the vehicle fleet, they already have extensive experience and technology for using such fuels.

    Shifting to alternatives would probably

This small scale stuff is happening under Bush, Under Clinton this type of thing will be front and center. As a matter of fact much of what we put in out tanks will not be fossil-type fuels at all (and that will kill those high prices faster than 1986).

I know that you hate Clinton because of the right wing smears against her, but you can't argue this one, those prices will go down VERY fast under Clinton.

Danr, My computer skills include just barely getting connected to the internet and so far I have only found a few hints about the 15% 401K tax but I will keep looking. I remember several years back this was being touted by the far left wing and was not right wing propaganda against the left. The far left was serious and could make it happen if they were in power. They could also set price controls, which has been tried in the past with disasterous effects.

In my opinion there are a finite amount of resources in the world and the population explosion is causing most of our problems. Too many lemings, but at least the lemings have a solution to their problem. I can remember debating this problem when I was in high school in the sixties.

If that's the best you can do, then it is an admission that Clinton will do nothing. Ethanol can't be transported by pipeline and produces less power than gasoline. It takes a gallon of gas to make and deliver the equivalent amount of ethanol, so the plan is a non-starter. Brazil is a special case. They use sugar cane, grow it close to the point of eventual use, and do a lot of processing with low cost manual labor. In the US, most of the farms are a good distance from the large coastal cities and we don't grow sugar. Another point never mentioned is that Brazil became energy independent by opening up oil drilling all along their coast and tremendously increasing domestic production. Ethanol is more of a side-show there than the liberal medial and enviornmentalists want you to know.

So nice try Danr, but you flunked.

Actually there are huge reserves being found everyday offshore....it is not a question of not having enough oil and we have not hit peak...and all those places are NOT in decline. Venezuela is not in decline, Nigeria is not in decline, they just found more reserves in the North Sea and in the gulf, Kazakhstan, Offshore and on shore China, New reserves have been found in Indonesia and Malaysia, the Congo is super oil rich... Russia has numerous reserves untapped…My company is branching out there now as well as Just recently they began to develop the Bo Hai Bay reserve in China....its enormous...there are numerous other reserves....
    .

The main problem is the expense, time, effort, and other problems (politics) that go into tapping a new well...it is often a billion dollar venture...that the oil company must make from its own pockets….hell…there are HUGE reserves of the coast of Cali…they just wont let people drill there…

Why spend all that money time and effort when you can buy oil from wells already tapped. Tapping a field is often times a a process that takes decades, dozens if not hundreds of companies working in cooperation, cooperation from the country it is in (or off its shore) political stability (like Congo, Nigeria, Venezuela), Engineering and manufacturing of platforms, drills, tubulars, hangers, packers, wellheads, suspension systems, Trees, completions systems, Risers and BOPs….etc…etc…etc…Deepwater is evern more work and expense.

If people even had the slightest clue as to the expense and effort that went into finding and extracting oil all the way down to getting it into your tank everyday…the shear logistics involved…you would wonder why gas is so cheap.

Right now the oil industry is in a drilling stage….we are developing major new fields as I type this, my company just opened a new office and plant in China just for Bo Hai and we are also developing in the Gulf…no lack of oil to be drilled, not yet at least…the big boys just need to be willing to put in the money it takes….and they are doing it now...my company is building new manufacturing plants just to acomodate the need for new drilling equipment....

The main problem is refineries…plain and simple (political)…and the main reason why oil is so expensive is profiteering with oil as a commodity bought and sold like stocks on the world market…buy a lot of oil? Don’t sell until the price is up…simple as that…not to mention taxes and all the middle men down the line.

The Arabs (and producering nations) take a certain amount per barrel, that is always known, they sell to partners and the rest goes on the open market…from there the price goes up and up and up…

I know that it drives you crazy that gas prices will plummet under Clinton, you really have no come back for it, that is why the Pubs will lose in 2008.

that is only 1/2 of the puzzel, reducing demand is where Clinton comes in.

Danr, my suggestion to you is that you take your entire net worth and short long term gasoline futures. Hillary will make you wealthy.

    Hillary gets mad!

O.K. guys, this is what happens when you get the Clinton gang mad:

The Democratic controled Senate approved a plan to allow the Justice Department to sue the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries for price manipulation. I’ll bet this will really make them wish they hadn’t fooled with Hillary. Wait a minute, couldn’t they buy off Bill and keep it in the family that way?

Hillary Clinton, a communist, will say anything in order to be elected.

Bone, how many more politicians do I need to insult to be enshrined in your 'Who Should Be Banned?' poll? ;)
