Moen, I refuse to get into a tit-for-tat discussion with you. I've spoken my piece and you can take it at face value. I've explained my thoughts on the subject and I'll leave it at that.
Well, do as you wish, but I thought that is what this section was about. An exchange of viewpoints. If I ask tough questions, just take as much time as you want before replying. Ask me tough questions. Asking is the only way to get an answer.
I think being in the military makes you an expert (or at least familiar with) your job in your branch...and might make some that much more wary of military action...or like my nephew...more ready to go back into the fight. It lends no more credence to what you think about the direction our nation and its military takes...that does depend on rank and experience though when it comes to some aspects of military As for McCain, I admire him and his service but as a politician, he and his buddy Keating says it all....electing him president would be like giving Ken Lay another company to run...
And you know what its like being in the military, having never served yourself. Another guy going on and on about patriotism as long as someone else defends the country in which he lives. A country tolerant of hypocrites such as yourself. People like you disgust me. Shouting about how much you love this country but never swore an oath to defend it. Then you hide under the protective blanket of freedom, the same freedom that you want to deny other citizens, i.e. gays and liberals, the moment someone wants you to answer for you actions. Why dont you go where patriotism really counts? why dont you go to Cuba? you make me sick.
Well, arent I the horses ass? I had no idea that you were one of many of the greatest generation this country ever produced. I take it all back. Well most of it.
I used to have a problem with McCain on the Keating thing. But he really changed and he has been working VERY hard to get dirty money out of politics.
McCain says his involvement in the scandal "will probably be on my tombstone." "I will never live it down" looks like he has lived down the fact that he aided his friend in robbing the tax payers of more than 3 billion...and there wasnt a huge stink about his infidelity to his wife that broke up his first marriage..lets put him in the white house...he is just the right man for the job
The Vietnam War wasn't about "fighting for our rights." North Vietnam was never a threat to us or our rights. Basically, it was just another Cold War episode that turned out to be a mistake. We thought we were defending Vietnam and southeast Asia from Chinese expansion. Turns out the North Vietnamese didn't care much for and were not allies of the Chinese. The soldiers fought with distinction. Many didn't want to be there. The politicians basically threw away their lives due to the inability to admit to a policy error. After we finally left, many of the bad things that were predicted to happen actually happened, and none of it mattered in the long run anyway. We could have left ten years earlier and the world would be the same today except for about 50,000 more living Americans. What a shame. What a waste.
Exactly the way I remember it being. Nothing more, nothing less. A truely political war if I've ever seen one.
The whole ship was disgraced. It was horrible. My refusal to wear a seat belt worried the Captain to no end. I had jeopered the whole Vietnam War nd almost sunk the ship! All because of my refusal to wear my seat belt when the enemy is attacking from the East that I knew was mpossible eventhough I knew it was true. I am not going to say anything bad about the enemy because they are so brave. Then we had the problem of a "Prositute in the chain locker.
Actually, a lot of American's don't seem to realize that Ho Chi Minh (the villainized leader of North Viet-Nam during the war) worked for the American intelligence in Indochina during World War II, from 1943 through 1945. Although trained in Moscow, he was primarily a nationalist seeking independence for his country and sympathetically pro-American. Ho and his resistance organization rescued our downed pilots and provided information on Japanese troop movements. Our Navy and OSS loved him. At the end of WWII, Ho adopted a constitution similar to ours and declared independence. He disbanded the Communist Party and called for a general election with all parties participating. The Americans on the scene were treated as heroes, loved and celebrated by everyone. But after the war, the French wanted their colony back... and rather than support independance for a democratic republic in Indochina, we betrayed them and supported the return of French rule. Ho switched from fighting the Japanese to fighting the French. With no support for democracy from America, he turned to the only superpower willing to give any support, and fell into the sphere of the Russians. In other words... we MADE Viet-Nam the hellhole that it was, and our young men and women fought and died and reaped the rewards of suffering and agony that should have been heaped upon the heads of the politicians who betrayed their allies and coddled the French *******i. And this Iraq thing is going right down the same path.
Tom, thanks for the information. I didn't know that. It sounds like another case of "blowback" and another reason to support a non-interventionist foreign policy. Many unforseen problems arise from the alternatives, which are very popular. George Washington must be spinning in his grave.
Yes well... Old Dan's already threatened to participate in my torture by donating supplies (and so far has not recanted or apologized)... and that was for pledging to support the Constitution of the United States of America... something every miiltary officer is required to do but civilians seldom... so what else is new? How about another quote from Thomas Paine: "Truth, in every case, is the most reputable victory a man can gain"
Glad to see you back Tom! I always learn something when you are around. A rare occurrence with most of the contributors here. As far as the old one goes, I find he pretty much just throws bombs to get a rise out of people and really has nothing to contribute. If that is how he has to get his kicks at his age, more power to him. He is front and center of my ignore list for those reasons and many more. Welcome back!
