Would Coin Talk be better off without this section

I am just wondering if coin talk would be better off without this section. I love talking about the history and politics around coins and felt that what this section would at first be about but it is far from it. Am I right to think that perhaps this section should cease or am I wrong for discussions of genocide and right or wrong should always be discussed no matter where. Genocide is happening. In anycase it seems to me that interest in this section has died down by the decrease in views of the posts. At one time it seemed to have the second biggest viewership now it seems as if a handful of people are just jabbing at each other which may or may not include me depending on who I am responding to.
Can't cast a stone on that one.
Does anyone else who still posts here feel the same or did those who wondered as I just drifted away.
I would like to drift myself but I hate to leave for then there will be one less voice to counter the America is the cause of all evil in this world type of post.

I just opted in a few weeks ago. I don't see a problem with this section, because it is opt-in, and the whole freedom of speech thing. However, I do notice that at least 80% of the discussions here are very redundant, with people debating the same points over and over.
But, there is some relevant and original discussions that occur here from time to time, and for that reason, I see no need to do away with PRWE.

I have been trying not to bother with this section...didnt want to opt out but wanted not to participate in the ad nauseum anti-islam, anti-america, anti-bush, anti-whatever posts that happen here. I did an okay job of it until I saw aidens revolting 'Cult of Faggot Scum - Hell-bound child abusers!' thread which got me posting there and a few other threads (like a domino effect). I have quickly rethought my action and decided to go back to lurking here and retreat from those threads I posted in as I think that there are such extreme views here that there is no real discussion to be had.

If this forum has taught me one thing, its that here, more than any other forum I have read on a regular basis, have easily the most extreme views...and in the case of a few, insane or highly obsessive. What I wonder is...is this a trait of collectors? Are they more than others prone to such extremes? I read other forums and I havent found so many highly extreme opinions and people with apparent tunnel vision. Thus debate comes much easier because on those forums there seem to be more people who can give and take...people are less extreme so posts dont become long diatribes and cut and paste regurgitation...there is a bit more give and take...some here will simply cut and paste a thread to death instead of debate.

So for that reason I have (with a few lapses) decided that this forum is rather useless as it has become a platform for personal obsessions.

I think of myself as rather moderate, when faced with such extremism, I have to admit I tend to simply stop taking things seriously, make a few jabs and fade away. Now I might post in an aiden hate thread just to taunt him into a rant, maybe in a 'all islam is evil' thread just to set certain people off into cut and paste tirades...I found out rather quickly that this was not a forum for level headed debate and airing of opinions and give and take. You cant take this stuff seriously or you will just fear for the future of mankind :) Just prey that these are truely extremes and not norms.

All the same, to answer the question...I think this forum serves no purpose but for some people to air personal agendas and bias...so it doesnt serve much of a purpose...but as long as its opt in...and people realize thats what this place is all about (and that realization comes quickly)...I see no problem with it being here. Its like a car wreck...its hard to look away as you stare in horror.

This might surprise some of you but I wouldn't miss this section very much if it were gone. I have found that most of the people that actually could discuss points of view and offer up their opinions without being strickly opposed to someone else's opinion have stopped coming here out of disgust. There are only a handful of people that I like to talk about issues with and many of them have visited here less and less. That leaves me trying to talk with born flamers and partisan hacks. It's just the quality of the participants with a few select exceptions has gone down considerably.

I can crawl into the mud if I have to but I'd rather talk about issues and learn something. With too many of the people here it is about winning and losing instead of offering a new perspective. I have strong opinions but put me in defensive mode and I give as good as I get. That is when I just get tired of the screaming. I find that I am learning less and less because there is just so few people left here that have anything of value to add to the conversation.

My guess is that I'll even be attacked for saying this much.

Though I often pass by here out of curiosity, I almost always leave this section of the forum feeling worse about things. I don´t feel as though I can say much that hasn´t already been said a hundred times before. There is nothing constructive or interesting about diatribes and displays of hate. I see enough of that in the real world.

On the other hand, it goes a long way toward cleaning up the posts in the other forums and is valuable from that standpoint. I commend Coin Talk for having the courage to permit it to exist with very little censorship.

since its opt in, I see no reason why it would make any difference better or worse.

I enjoy this section, with all its verbal taunts, vitriol, polical incorrectness, and sometimes downright meanness. Viewing and posting in this section lets me keep my mental edge sharp, expose myself to contrary view points, and discuss politics because I can not normally discuss them in the environment I work in.

I also enjoy this section. I seldom post here ,but always visit. I would miss it if it was gone.

It's kind of interesting that some who seem a bit (sometimes quite a bit) extreme here are quite normal when dicussing coins.

I like the option to post here and discus Politics, Religion and World events...

I have no problem with 99.9% of the posts and posters and I can say I have disagreed with a few, but was not really put off or offened by anything I've read here, except one and it looks like several others may feel the same way...

Myself, I'm really in a Jam when it comes to politics....

I'm interested in it and trying to learn more, but I'm also disgusted and frustrated with it as I don't like a lot of the things that goes on and the changes that are being made to the country I was born and rasied in...

I like the fact that this section exists, and at times find some very valuable viewpoints to ponder. As mentioned by others, however, sometimes it gets difficult to remain interested as discussions turn to rhetoric and pokes and jabs...

Better without this section? Yes/No... who knows? Simple enough to opt-out and it no longer "exists"

I'd say keep it as it is. One can always opt out. Admittedly, I don't post much (Mind you, I do 'write' a few choice replies, but think better of it after I've had the chance to walk away and think for a moment), but sometimes it can be an interesting read.
