While we are on the subject of talking about Presidents, who do you think was the most misunderstood President of America? Personally,I reckon it would have to be the late President Ronald Reagan,as he had the responsibility for assuming the U.S.'s most famous job very late in life.He also had the responsibility for ordering the invasion of Grenada to turf the Cubans out of there & overthrow the local Commie regime. Here's an article about President Reagan; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan . Aidan.
Probably Chester Arthur. He became president when the 'spoils system' was in full swing and pressured Congress to implement the Civil Service System to bring it more under control. He also restricted immigration by screening out criminals, insane people, the very poor, etc. His administration also ran huge budget surpluses. He didn't go looking for a war to fight, and left the country better than he found it without worrying about his legacy. You can't expect any more from a man than that.
I vote for Jimmy Carter. He saw clearly the importance of the central issue of ENERGY and proposed that we adopt the 'moral equivalent of war' on the energy problem. Had we followed that concept I feel that the United States would TODAY be energy independant of the rest of the world and already generating most of our energy renewably. But people scoffed and Reagan even took the solar panels off of the White House roof. Carter got a lot of bad press for his plain-spoken honesty. Some say a president has to be a jerk in order to deal with all the other jerks in the world, so a president that is both a good and honest man is at a disadvantage. There may be some truth in that... and his honesty and integrity may have hurt his ability to negotiate with other world leaders, but I feel the Carter was the best MAN who has ever been president and it's time that we honor him for that.
Well..I guess he wasnt as bad a Warren G Harding or James Garfield (but he only was in office for 6 months )
