Since this has petered out, I'd like to thank Drus, Cloudy, and Tom for the discussion. We obviously have our differences but it never broke down into labeling, name calling, and yelling. I have learned a few things and I hope some of you did too. You three rank at the top of my imaginary buddy list of favorite debaters. I can't wait for the next topic Thanks guys. :high5:

I guess the recent revelations that the Bush Administration actively downplayed the effects of global warming using an oil industry lobbist and current ExxonMobil employee to sensor solid scientific reports means nothing to either of you two doubting Thomas'. If this doesn't smell completely rotten to you guys, go to your local medical clinic and make an appointment with an ENT. I believe that your sense of smell has left the building.

God! It's good to have oversight again.

The debate has moved beyond the point of whether it is happening or not. It's now a matter of what to do about the problem. If you choose not to believe for whatever personal reason you have, the rest of us will be up ahead working on the problem. You sit tight right where you are and relax. :stooge:

Okay Moen, just what exactly is it your doing to solve problem of Global Warming? Me, I'm reassuring everyone who brings it up that there is nothing to worry about.

    Global Warming is for real.

    Bonedigger:
I actually checked your Wikipedia reference... in the first paragraph it says: (of the Global Cooling theory) "The theory never had strong scientific support. At present, the dominant theory amongst scientists is that Earth as a whole is not cooling, but rather is in a period of global warming attributed to human activity"

Wikipedia is of course a weak source of information because it is simply edited by the public. But even so, using it to support your belief in a failed theory, even when it does NOT support you is a bit revealing of the depth of thought you've put into your statement that:
If anybody actually wants to discuss the data which increasingly supports the observation that planetary temperatures are increasing I'd be happy to be involved. But really, there are dozens or hundreds of places you can look... scientists who are NOT funded by oil company money and right-wing political action committees. The data is VERY clear: the earth's climate is changing in ways that are not particularly beneficial to human activities... and at the very time that the human population of the earth has risen to unprecedented levels.

The real question now is what to do about it. This is a real question, a difficult question. We face choices that are going to be hard to make, but the sooner we make them the easier the follow-ups will be.

It seems dishonest and disingenuous to keep hashing and rehashing the same old politically biased arguments against the validity of science in order to delay the tough decisions. A couple of posts up I gave a link to the website of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) which is preparing to release a new report. Have you looked at the website? Have you followed up on any of the specific questions or data sources that are addressed? Have you read the last report issued by the group? I suggest that your statement characterizing global warming as a farce is ill-informed and that you would be well served by a personal effort to become well informed about the subject. If you need a reading list I'd be happy to suggest some titles.

Small things. Driving less, buying more fuel efficient cars, using less heat in my home, recycling. About all one can do on an individual level. My interest is in the future my kids will have. And if our generation uses all the natural resources wastefully, what kind of quality of life can they have. Just make sure you tell your daughter that she has nothing to worry about dad. :thumb:

Weathers about the same here. I hope you don't think todays temps lends any credence to your assertion. :rolling:

How would below zero temps lend credibility to MY global warming argument? That is sort of the opposite of smart.
