I don't think government managed health care and superannuation could be defined as "socialism". The inFrastructures of most first world "capitalist" countries (France, Australia, etc) are built around socialist principles. For instance, we pay taxes so the government can provide us with "free" roads.

As for the health care plan - I'm all for free across-the-board medical care for all Americans. If Cuba can afford it, so can the USA.

Now, I'm going to derail this thread slightly just to mention how amazingly charismatic and downright clever Barack Obama is. I've just watched his half-hour television broadcast and damn if I haven't just about fallen in love with him. He's calm, he's cool and incredibly commanding.

He's definitely going to win this election and is going to make a huge impact on the collective psyche of the USA and the rest of the world.

I think people are generally good/kind, and life certainly doesn't have to be as hard and gritty and bitter as some Republicans make it out to be.

What we don't want is goverment telling us which health care I can go to. I don't want goverment to tell me I can't have a gun. I don't want the goverment taking my income and give it to someone elese. I want goverment to stay out of my buisness.

Your probably right. He will win. And we will have a democratic congress and senate. We will also see how many things Obama has said will be truthfull. He will tax us all. He will try to take my guns. He will take my money and hand it to someone who dosn't work. He will increse spending and he WILL send us into a depression.

You might be surprised by all the misconceptions about "LIBERALS AND GUNS". I noticed the NRA has been running a LIE campaign on TV these last few days. What President, in their right minds, would EVER consider any kind of restriction on your gun? That would be political suicide for one thing, and second, just like the "BLACKS ON WELFARE" stereotype, not ALL Liberals are anti gun, and most certainly, neither are most Democrats or Obama. The Democrat who runs the gun shooting range in my county, would probably scowl at that misconception you believe in about 2-A rights and Obama.

Something I have never seen in the Republican party. It's always conditional... the life you live, the money you spend or give to the government, the beliefs you have... all one sided and distorted to make us all believe there is only one true "path" we should all believe in.

While I don't take any church demonination, and proclaim myself deist, I DO believe in the basic principals of christianity. Christianity is a SOCIALIST religion, tell me I am wrong.

It's all too easy for people to distort the fundementals of christianity by proclimation of a "religion free" America. Then there are some that "claim" America was founded on "Christian" principles. If this is so, then the bible tells us we should look out for one another... does it not?

That is so racist it's not even funny. I would love to see a black man make it to the white house but I'm not voting on color. I'm voting on character and issues. The fact is Obama has terrrorist ties, wants to tax the **** out of me and wants to spend more even as we are in a ression as you pointed out. Look back in history when we had a depression and you decide what created it.

And even if the magic number was still 250 grand and above will be taxed, how would taxing them be equal? hmmmm? If I make more than you why should I have the government redistribute my money to someone who didn't do **** for it? Why not a flat tax? Or no tax at all as McCain is offering?

 

Basically, your SS tax will go up if you make over 93K, something has to be done to shore up SS. Not the way I would do it, but I can't blame Obama for addressing a problem few are willing to touch. The main problem I see is still the 45% inheritance tax which will kill, or put deeply in debt, many small businesses plus will lead to capital outflow to friendlier nations. Three words--Swiss Bank Accounts. Of course, both candidates are going to mire us deeper in debt, McCain even worse than Obama. Whatever happened to the Goldwater wing of the Republican Party?

My brother-in-law was on welfare too. He got off of it by working two jobs. If he didn't work two jobs he would've made more staying on welfare.
I'm not saying poor people don't get off their ass and work. I'm saying the majority of poor people don't get off their ass an work. Giving them more reasons not to work is not the way to do it.
