Is this really possible? I mean, if you go out protesting a war, which means you think it is wrong, what kind of message does that send. It's like saying, You are doing something wrong, but I support you in that. It really doesn't make sense. It also generates negative press that fuels the terrorists fire, and causing conflict, and makes ordinary civilians over there get a skewed sense of reality. Basically, I don't care what anyone's political affiliation is, and I certainly think it's entirely possible to be on either side of the spectrum and support the war, but if you don't, please don't paint the war as wrong, if you genuinely care about our men out there fighting the war.
Of course it's possible. Not only is it possible, it's darn near imperative considering the foolhardiness of those who got us into this mess. None of whom were soldiers, and that's the point. The military didn't send themselves into Iraq on an arbitrary regime-changing mission. The military hasn't set the U.S. back fifty years in international relations. The military did what was ordered of it. And, just like the majority of citizens of other countries, even Islamic countries, who differentiate between the average American and the government of America, I can feel and show solidarity with the military while decrying the actions of the government which put them into harm's way on a pretense.
I understand what you are saying. And I understand the rationale. However, I think it is a disservice to our troops, when people go out in the street, and claim that our soldiers are commiting genocide, murdering babies etc. And then they come home only to be spit on, sometimes literally. War is simply a mess. You can't win either way.
Those who currently oppose the rebuilding of Iraq, and the cost in lives and treasure that this task will ultimately require, will likely change their opinions after the next major Islamic strike in the United States. It will happen. The USA did not start this prolonged fight. Instead, we elected a President in 2000 who possessed the leadership courage and sense to respond in a meaningful way to a series of unmitigated attacks by a sworn enemy of the United States. To continue "convenient" business as usual after 9-11 would have been criminal neglect.
Are your refering to the past or the present with this statement. No persons in my are have acosted the returning troops. At least not to my knowledge which is limited. And yes I support the military action that removed Sadam. I do not support the president and the lies he put forth. There where plenty of legitimate reasons to remove Sadam. Since a pull out now will eventually kill more citizens, police and military I have no choice but to continue to support the action. Finish the job we started! Now NO MATTER what my views are on the above topics I do, have, and will always support the men and woman that are doing the job that we as americans asked them to do. This will never change. They have no choice but to follow orders. The reason you, and I can support the troops and not the war is simple. Remember our government is "of the people for the people". If Bush started a war WE started a war. It is for that reason I am unhappy with Big Bullheaded Bush.
I am referring to the current war. I know of stories in the news, detailing how soldiers have been attacked. It's more commonplace than it should be. http://www.local6.com/news/3747416/detail.html Just one example.
Because of the protestors, because of the media bias, because the democrat party made this a political issue and divided the nation, we never really fought the war the way it should have been fought from the beginning. Hard and absolute. Then we might not be having all of this trouble coming as much as from Saudi and Syria backing for they would be afraid that they would be next. Note: Saudi Arabia should have been first but they are to rich, to connected and the fear of the muslim world reacting to "Christians Soldiers" taking arms against the guardians of Islam leading to a World War III. However, we are already in World War III and have been for a long time. The battle has just landed on our shores thru. As things stand now we will lose for their end game is based upon the now and future generations of population explosion, building larger communties in Europe and the United States for political influence and a third front, Undermining other religious beliefs, undermining the resolve to fight, conversion and plain slaughter.
The way I see it, I need not necessarily support the war (and by war, I mean the ideological basis for starting a conflict in Iraq), but I can still support the troops fighting there (any by "support the troops" I mean to wish the men and women who were braver than me for signing up to fight in times that they were ordered to do so luck, health, and a safe return. I don't need to support the REASON for starting conflict in Iraq to still hope that all the Americans fighting over there come back safely. ~AJ
I am a retired US Army Non-commissioned Officer who still works for the US Army. Hell yes you can support the military without supporting the war. Like said before the military did not choose this combat assignment, they were sent on this combat assignment by the CINC. Any soldier that chooses combat is a fool. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are Americans, all of them come from our hometowns. If you do not support them then you do not support America. Theses brave men and women are putting their lives on the line everyday to protect countries all over the world. Just think how much they will SUPPORT YOU when called to do so in your own backyard (and don't think it can't happen).
Who ever said there was a connection in the first place? Not even GW himself. GW simply said saddam posed a threat to our country, not that he was somehow implicated in 9/11.
The 9/11 commission DID state facts and cases where Sadamm supported terrorists. As for me...I am sooooooo glad that our troops are 10 minutes away from fighting this human cancer instead of 10 days. You take the fight to islamic terrorists and WE determined where those fighting fronts are! One...in the heart of Afganhistan and Two in the middle of the islamic hell hole of the earth. Nothing is better than having troops behind the enemy lines in not only Iraq, but close to Syria, Iran, and other peaceful loving mulsims. Go ahead and pull out, but rest assure, WE WILL FIGHT THEM...AGAIN and AGAIN. Look at all of the world conflicts and 95% of them involve the religion of peace. These people have made it very clear by their actions. Forget their lip service because they have no intention of respecting other cultures and faithes. Judge them by their actions and their actions are very clear. God Bless our troops that have to deal with the world's scum. You always take the fight to your enemy. You don't wait for islamic terrorists to strike. Using the bleeding heart's logic, we would have NEVER fought World War II against Germany. Sure they will say Hitler declared war on the United States after Japan attacked us, but what do you call those bearded, non-bathing mulsim men in dirty night shirts in mosque after mosque? They all have vowed death and destruction to the West and Israel. I call that a declaration... And if it is war our bearded friends want, I am ready to pull the trigger. Bring it on Mohammad. Let's roll. Ever since 1972 when you almost ruined the Munich Olympic games have you demonstrated to me for well over 30 years in my life alone. You are what you are. Your actions prove it.
