His voters would keep re-electing him until he decided to retire, of course. Don't believe me? Read up on the 1983 Congressional page scandal. Both a Republican and a Democrat were found to have slept with pages. Republican voters booted the Republican Congressman out of office as soon as he came up for re-election. Democratic voters kept re-electing the Democratic Congressman until he decided to retire...13 years after the incident came to light. And this was actual sex, ladies and gentlemen, not just dirty emails. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Congressional_page_sex_scandal
Maybe it was just emails, time should tell (I honestly hope that was it). As for the crime of statutory rape, I do not care about political party they belong in prison if they are involved in doing that OR covering it up (like Hastert).
Pretty bad when a sex offender is the best the democrats have to put into office. Sort of like now! Except now they want to put a sex offenders wife in the big office!!
From what I have seen in the news and read on various forums, in my opinion, you would be in the minority of liberals in hoping that. Most, appear to me, to be gleefully rubbing their hands together over the incident and would probably light up cigars and wet themselves in giddy excitement if the incident was revealed to be worse than it already has been. Personally, I hope Foley rots and I think the whole incident is disgusting...and that includes the dancing in the political streets I have seen by democrats.
Oh, and we shouldn't forget Democrat Fred Richmond who was charged with soliciting sex with a 16 years old boy and who chose to 'undergo professional counseling' so as to have the charges dropped. Wanna guess what happened to him? Yep! Didn't have to resign and, wait for it....Got re-elected!
I only say I hope it was only email for the sake of the victims, politically it would probably hurt Pubs but that is secondary.
You mean How long have Democrats been doing this stuff and getting away with it and re-elected? For many decades. So, if he was a card carrying member of NAMBLA, it would be less illegal, immoral and disgusting in your world? We live in different worlds.
Stay away from the blogs...Wikipedia is your friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Richmond I left out the tax evasion and dope smoking.
I know you and facts have a mutually exclusive relationship, but the pages were all legally adults (i.e. over 18). Pages, having known more than a few, are usually college students majoring in Political Science or Pre-Law. What Foley did wasn't hypocrisy (dictionaries can be your friend), but irony. Hypocrisy would be taking an oath as an officer of the court and/or as an official of the government to protect and support the law, and then breaking it.
are you sure that they were 18 ( you may be confused, they were 18 when it came out, but were younger when it happened as I recall). And yes Foley is a hypocrite.
I happen to believe that Danr is right on this part at least. I seem to remember seeing Foley on TV, leading a panel against such acts, so for him to put on false appearances of being against such actions, he could very well be classified as a 'hypocrite'. hypocrite,
No doubt in my mind that he is a hypocrite. I am just not sure which is worse. Someone who knows sending dirty emails to a male page is wrong and resigns or is forced to resign by his political party or someone who doesn't think that having sex with a male page is wrong and not only doesn't resign but has a political party and voters who don't think it is wrong either and keep re-electing him as they did with Studds. One I can hope he gets help. The other I begin to think there is no hope for.
Whether he did or did not is immaterial! He was caught, admited to doing what he did and resigned. It's over and should be dropped. Just like the activities of our late President Clinton. Enough is enough, you don't need pictures do you?
I strongly DISAGREE this thing needs to be investigated. We need any and all molesters out of congress and in prison (Dem or PUB). You are pulling a Hastert and sweeping it under the carpet and that is unethical.
Are you suggessting that Bill Clinton should be in prison? If not lets start another thread on the subject you care so much about and leave this one to discussion of Democrats who have committed this act. Please read the title and think about it..... see what I mean?
The Democrats can keep hoping and insinuating otherwise but, as far as I have read, that is all that happened.
