    I was unaware that businesses even sponsored the debates or why they even need sponsors. Seems like presidential debates shouldn't need to be sponsored by anyone. :confused:

    Thing is it costs to hold such a event so that cost wont fall to the tax payer if the event is sponserd

    Actually, the FCC requires the air time be given to the candidates.

    Thats air time, you still have the cost of a venue, transport, security etc it's a show biz event and that costs LOL

    Given as in made available for normal advertizements. However, it does not require it to be gratis. They are allowed to and do charge for the time.

    The ore I think about it, I believe that the media is NOT required to make time available. The requirement is that they make it available equally to candidates. "Equally" can be zero.

    They need sponsors for the same reason the NFL needs sponsors.
