I'm just curious to hear from any of you how you would feel if a so-called caucasian candidate launched a campaign entitled "German-Americans For (Whomever)" or perhaps "Norwegian-Americans For (Whomever)".

Doesn't this seem just a bit racist to you? I mean, come on... a campaign focused specifically on a certain race of people?

How would you feel if Mitt Romney began an "English-Americans for Romney" campaign? Or a "Scottish-Americans for Romney" campaign. Would you think he would be somewhat racist?

What you mean like Italian Americans throwing there support behind a candidate (http://www.facebook.com/NIAPAC/info) or perhaps the Irish Americans :) Are they a little bit racist? Personaly I dont think so

No. I mean a president who is actively seeking the support of a group of people based solely upon their race.

It's a very good question Coin but I really don't think so.

Romney could do the same thing and it wouldn't bother me at all. I don't think it would be a wise move by Romney for financial reasons though.

Why? - because I'm willing to bet that President Obama will get the majority of the African American vote. So Romney should target other "groups".

Just watch or listen to any "political analyst", be they left, right whatever and you will hear their opinions. Oft times there are polls.

You will hear references to the Latin American vote, the women's vote, the "under 30" vote, the gay vote and the list goes on.

Does anyone call such polls or opinions racist or sexist? I haven't seen it.
To me there is one word in common with these groups. The word is VOTE.

Politicians need them. They're going to target groups in order to get them.

Whether or not one likes President Obama he's going after votes. The African American population is a lot of votes. Will he get a lot of those votes? I'm pretty sure of that and, yes, there will be plenty that will vote for him just because of skin color.

It's a campaign and, in theory, every vote counts.

Actually "white" and "male" are the only 2 demographics who can't get away with it....women, gays, religious groups, ethinic groups, hobbyists, etc have all formed these groups over the years. There is a definite double standard but one that no one else seems to be concerned about.

Let's be honest, BO's race is the only reason he was elected the first time around and his re-election bid is going to be much easier if that bloc (primarily the first time voters in '08) turns out this time around too. He knows they will vote for him solely based on race & he won't have to explain his failed economic record.

I vote this the most racist statement....well, the recent most racist statement in this forum. I just gets hard to sort them all out after a while.

Facts are facts...whether you agree or not.
I guess this is one of those inconvenient truths the left is uncomfortable discussing aloud, huh? I know black people from every rung of the social ladder who freely admit they voted for BO only because of his race...I have also encountered many folks who are proud to admit they voted for the first time only because a black guy was running.

So because you met some people that said these things, supposedly, that gives you the right to say, "Let's be honest, BO's race is the only reason he was elected the first time around" That is quite a leap logic don't ya think?

Maybe I was being kind calling you obtuse?

Yeah, I know, I know...real life doesn't matter when it doesn't jive with the left wing narrative.

Why? - because I'm willing to bet that President Obama will get the majority of the African American vote. (That's a blanket statement. Are you saying he would get the African-American vote because they tend to vote for liberal candidates or would he get their vote for some other reason?) So Romney should target other "groups". (Should Romney target groups based on their skin color?)

Politicians need them. They're going to target groups in order to get them. (You're absolutely correct. I see no problem with politicians targeting steel workers. Or single parents. Or anti-gun advocates. Or homeowners. Or any group as long as its not based solely on race).

Whether or not one likes President Obama he's going after votes. The African American population is a lot of votes. Will he get a lot of those votes? I'm pretty sure of that and, yes, there will be plenty that will vote for him just because of skin color. (And I would call them racist).

(Would you consider it racist, though?)

    No.

    (For "financial reasons"? Please explain).
I thought I did somewhat but to me it would be a drain on his campaign funds. He could spend those funds better elsewhere. Perhaps "White, Males for Romney".
For the record this woud not bother me and I wouldn't consider it racist.

(That's a blanket statement. Are you saying he would get the African-American vote because they tend to vote for liberal candidates or would he get their vote for some other reason?)

Had I said ALL African Americans will vote for President Obama it would be a blanket statement. I didn't though so it's not.
I also stated that many African Americans would vote for him based on skin color.
I can't tell you exactly what goes on in any voter's head any better than you can tell me.

(Should Romney target groups based on their skin color?)
Why not if he wants to. That's up to him.

I would say that if someone targets any particular group based on their skin color, it's racist).

    I wouldn't.

(You're absolutely correct. I see no problem with politicians targeting steel workers. Or single parents. Or anti-gun advocates. Or homeowners. Or any group as long as its not based solely on race).

All of those groups are represented by African Americans.
Downright brilliant if you think about it.

(And I would call them racist).

Then make sure to look at whites, latinos etc. the same way.

You asked a question Coin and I thought it was a good one and answered. Obviously, we're not in total agreement.

    Facts are facts. Absolutely.

Tell me David, did you run into any folks that wouldn't vote for a "nigger"?

I sure as hell did and many of them were Democrats.

    Another "inconvenient" truth.

You can't really make a leap in logic when none is involved in the first place Joe.

Come on Joe. Let's be honest.

Liberals have no family values based on yourself and IQless1.

    Now THAT'S logic.

I believe it is certainly Racial but I don't believe that means it is necessarily Racist. I think it is just another another part of the reality that America is not even close to being a 'post racial' society.

I know, I know. Even though I've been in the same relationship for over 30 years, have 3 kids, work every day, and support my community, I am one of the damn Lib-rals that hates this country and just wants to usher in Sharia law for whatever reason. Somebody's gotta do it. ;)

I was talking to a professor that came here from Columbia many years ago and he said that he had never experienced racism until he came to this country. Racism has been a part of the American experience since this country was founded or conquered. We exterminated the natives, we enslaved the Africans, and beat up our neighbors. Many of institutions had racism written directly into their organizational framework. This is nothing new nor have we moved past our racist tendencies. We actually have an entire political party devoted to maintaining the status quo of racism. If you wonder which political party, see my post #7 in this thread. That may give you a clue.
