Romney is supposed to release his tax returns because Harry Reid (who refuses to release his own taxes, by the way) heard some guy who calls himself a previous Bain "investor" claim Romney hasn't paid taxes in 10 years?
It's no wonder, with that rock-solid evidence, lil moen is jumping on that bandwagon (and telling iqless to do the same).

The White House is now putting as much distance between itself and Harry Reid as possible concerning Reid's unsubstantiated claim:

White House says Reid 'speaks for himself' on disputed Romney tax claim

    August 6, 2012
The White House gently distanced itself Monday from Harry Reid's disputed claim that Mitt Romney didn't pay taxes for a decade, with Press Secretary Jay Carney saying the Senate Democratic leader "speaks for himself."

Carney fielded several questions at Monday's press briefing about Reid's allegation, which dominated the weekend political talk shows. Republicans one-by-one have accused the Nevada Democrat of lying and suggested the Obama campaign was behind Reid's accusation. But Carney on Monday played down the notion that there was any coordination between the president's team and Reid.

"I'm not aware of the White House speaking to Senator Reid about this issue. I would simply say that you all probably know Senator Reid well, and, you know, he speaks for himself," Carney said.
Carney said that "only Senator Reid knows his source."

All Romney has to do to demonstrate the world that he's a straight up guy while at the same time settling Reid's hash good is release the returns, right? No more doubt about all the taxes that I'm sure he's paid and he comes out vindicated and smelling like a Rose. I simply don't understand why Mittens is having a problem with this. Talk about being handed an opportunity on a silver platter.

My gf has briefly gone over Mittney's tax report. Nothing illegal that she can see. The help was paid $20,603. It doesn't say for how many people, could be one...could be a dozen lol She said something about a loss in a partnership that resulted in $30,000+ dept forgiveness...and that that was one of many. One thing is clear: His track record with partnerships is awful...they fail quite often. He's been overall successful, but he's failed often...(looks at report) very often. (sniffs report) Smells heavily of being "cooked".

I am sure he has had a lot of failures. That is how he managed to build his net worth all the way from ZERO to something between $84M and $253M in about 40 years (depending on your source). Those are the kind of failures I would like to see.

BTW, over 90% of small businesses fail, to give you some perspective.

That is a matter of opinion, of course. ;)

I am aware of that. He's contributed often to that total. His generosity knows no limit. oyyyyy

Ah! I forgot. You liberals don't like anyone to succeed. That is a bad thing to do - unless it is someone of your beliefs like BO who has turned community organizer/politician into $10.5M. Think about that a minute. Someone who has never managed anything, created anything, or done anything to to employ another now has $10.5M and you are gritching about someone who has created 51,542 in just one company,

    A blatantly false accusation.

    Success is cause for celebration.

The difference between our beliefs is centered around how we behave towards failure. I believe those who have failed to succeed in our eyes have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. You're viewpoint is more along the lines of "survival of the fittest".

    Let's see. This is what you think of success;
Somehow, that does not sound like celebrating success. I won't bother looking for one of your post about BO, but I will bet his failure has more celebration than you have ever let out about Romney, or Bush (who created more jobs than BO, by McCain (as a war hero), by Bush Sr., etc.

Does success give someone the right to ignore the suffering of others, that people have only themselves to blame for failing?

Let me see if I am following you correctly. He is ignoring the suffering of others because he closed the steel factory 3 years after he had left Bain. Apparently you think he had his ESP and remote controls working simultaneously. I will bet that is your problem. Unlike the current administration causing the suffering of millions with unemployment, welfare, voters, entrepreneurs, doctors, etc., Romney actually hired people, and even saved the Olympians and the peoples of Salt Lake City.

(reading from Romney's return, shakes head) ...$20,603 for the "help". (turns to forum) ...You want to be "successful"? (points to the return) Don't work for Romney.

Looks at Obama's return and Biden's return and says don't ask them for help. They don't help (donate) to anything.

Now, since you seem to like quoting Romney's return, would you care to tell me how much he has donated? If memory serves me, Biden donated a whole $600. It probably cost him more to keep track of that than it saved him on his tax bill.

Success without sympathy is nothing to celebrate about. Wealth without compassion is shameful. (Picks up jar, holds so people can read the label, smiles toothily) An egg sandwich without Hellman's real mayonnaise just isn't American! (makes sour-face) Don't be like the Nazi's (reveals picture of an overweight, unclean Nazi, foaming at the mouth muttering ...nn-no...mmm-ore...nnnnot.....real.....ma-yo...", jar with "brand name" label on table...points to fat on Nazi) "No one wants those "love-handles"!" (grin widens, teeth gleaming)

You ain't battin' too well. No donations listed so I assume your "success without sympathy" is Obama and Biden donating nothing, but Romney's sympathy is shining!

Are you talking about Reid's statement that Mittens avoided all taxes for a few years? What's stopping Mittens from doing just that? Sue away. I'm sure he knows a lawyer or two. Drag ol' Harry into court, get that source, lay it all out on the table. Hmmm.... guess I just answered my own question.

And the answer to your question? Not very high imo. But one can always hope. But then why sue when Mittens could put the whole thing to bed and shut Reid down, probably permanently, by simply releasing some returns? Assuming that Reid is not right in his assertion of course. This just gets to be more and more fun.

Moving on, I think somewhere up above David was whining about Reid not releasing his own returns. David, sweetie, I don't know for sure of course but I think it probably occurred to Harry before he got the ball rolling on this that as soon as the Rethugs stopped sputtering and regained their ability to speak they would probably want to see his filings in kind of a quid pro quo.

If Reid is any kind of political strategist at all he saw this one coming a mile away and is prepared to release his taxes, or his source, or both, when the time is right to crank up the fire under Mittens. As it stands, with all the detailed compliance filings and disclosures Harry has had to provide over his political career his finances are probably pretty much an open book for anyone caring to check them out. In terms of data, the release of his returns will be lagniappe. In terms of making Mittens's position even more untenable than it already is the release of Reid's returns will be gold.

This seems like a Mormon on Mormon fight to me and Reid is kicking ass. He has Romney cowering in the corner afraid to step into the middle of the ring and take the beating he so richly (pun intended) deserves. Remind me never to piss off a Mormon. :D
