I think just about anyone else on the planet has the credibility to make this statement over Dick Cheney even if he is 100% correct. Cheney says picking Palin for VP was a mistake WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dick Cheney says it was a mistake for Republican Sen. John McCain to pick Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee. Cheney says he liked Palin, but that she didn't pass the test of being ready to be president and that McCain's campaign didn't handle the vetting process well. Republican challenger Mitt Romney is expected to announce a running mate in August. He is widely expected to choose someone perceived as competent but safe. Cheney, whose own unpopularity was a flashpoint for the Bush administration, says there are two lists that candidates maintain. The bigger list includes politicians who want to be viewed as under consideration to boost their standing. Cheney says a second, much shorter list contains those who are actually being considered.
Least popular? Nah, I'll have to dispute that claim especially considering that popularity is subjective: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/07/09/polls-cheney-nears-quayle-as-least-popular-veep/ The Guardian even placed him in the top five best presidential running mates: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/aug/22/uselections2008.usa Technically, selecting Sarah Palin as VP was a good choice since she had even more experience in government than Barack Obama. Politically, however, it may have been the wrong decision based on the fact that a female VP candidate was already old news (remember Geraldine Ferraro?). The "bloom was off the rose", so to speak. Now, running an African-American candidate (even one with so little experience in government) on a major political party ticket at that time was, let's admit it, unbeatable. Fortunately, the "bloom is off the rose" this time around, too. Are you really feeling the same dynamism that Obama will need to win the 2012 election that you felt in 2008? Is the same thrill running up your leg? Don't delude yourself this time... it's probably just deep vein thrombosis due to old age.
Cheney has a new heart, right? I hear he's contemplating contacting the donors family. What if it was a Liberal that donated it? A number of things could happen: 1. Cheney may decide against contact. 2. Cheney may contact the family and would probably giggle a lot, irritating the family further. 3. The family may want it back. 4. The heart may refuse to function properly, possibly preferring to die again. 5. The heart, if it has any humanity left, may decide to vacate the chest cavity and erupt out of the Penguin's rib cage like that alien from Alien. How many of you picked #5?
If it is, indeed, a liberal's heart I'm surprised it's working in the first place. Undoubtedly, it's sucking all the blood from the rest of his body and probably wanting more.
Palin is a hero in my eyes. She was a common person who was outside the political establishment and stood for the people. She took abuse that no other political person was ever subjected to. Her family was abused and harrassed whereas in the past children were said to be off limits by the press. If she was president does anyone think she would have given away trillions of dollars to wall street, etc. (I thougth she should have been at the top of the ticket). Of course Dick would be against her. He has more in common with obama.
A hero? ...wow, that is... (stunned silence) ...I mean, really? A hero? Well, you're entitled to your opinion lol I don't mean to berate you too hard you for this, but obviously my opinion deviates from yours ...somewhat lol... I see her as an extremist who only served to deepen the divide between the two major parties. While she certainly was massively appealing to the right, she was equally repulsive to the left. She quit her job as Governor when the challenges to her governing became too much for her to handle. Yes, Alaska is somewhat unique in that respect (allowing any State citizen to challenge her in court), but she folded under the pressure faster than anyone imagined possible...and that should be an indication to any reasonable person that she was not cut-out for the VP slot. She'd probably be fine for a catering job though... as long as she didn't open that nasal passage she speaks through. No one wants that near their food.
She had different viewpoints and was a political outsider from the corrupt machines. Neither the corrupt democratic or republican establishment wanted her to survive. She most likely got more votes for McCain then McCain got for himself. McCain took her for he had no other way to win but the leftist media and corrupt democrat party did political and social lynching of her and her family. Wish they spend the money and time that they did going against her with creating jobs for the poor. If you against the wall street bailouts then you would have been for her. The pressure you are talking about was her family being stalked 24 hours 7 days a week with even rich leftists buying a house next to hers just to harrass her, her kids and friends of the family. They even went after her mentally challenged kid. It was disgusting and a disgrace to America and what we are suppose to be about.
Maybe this will give you a different perspective; That is what the lw'ers do when they want to drive someone out of office.
From my viewpoint, she brought that negativity onto herself. It was (and is) a direct result of the "edginess" of her speechess while campaigning against her opponents. Her diatribes against Obama may have been chock-full of snide, yet memorable, catch-phrases denouncing the lefts policies...and her supporters may have responded to them with extreme enthusiasm (or, as I believe, extremist enthusiasm)...but that edginess was all fluff and no substance...as in the lipstick on a pig thing. That made for a good sound-byte, but it was an image-enhancement in the right's eyes only, since they (the bytes) didn't really address the issues. Those (hateful) stump speeches may have won support from her base, but they also rallied her opponents supporters, as well as Independents who may have been on the verge of voting for her (and that old guy, but let's face it...she was the draw) until they were put off by the nature of her message.
I want to also say that, while I generally use the term "Independents" to refer to those who do are not members of a specific party, I also include member of parties who do not necessarily fully support their party. In my opinion, the latter is an often ignored yet significant portion of voters. It's my belief that they (along with Independents) are the "deciding vote" in an election.
Typical of a person who gets their news in caricature form from the John Stewarts, Bill Mahers & SNL's of the world. In reality, Palin was a very successful governor during a period of tough economic times. Alaska's budget was balanced, the government was fully funded, taxpayers were receiving rebates...I could go on. By every indicator. metric or standard Alaska was in the best financial condition of any state in the union and it happened under Palin's watch. Not opinion but fact. The left did everything they could to tear her down because her "back story" trumped BO's and the left couldn't have the Repubs minority winning over theirs.
She had more than fifteen minutes of fame. She milked it to the hilt and the milk seems to have dried up. Blame the media all you want then tell me about Dancing With the Stars and "reality shows". I could go on. As much as I despise Cheney I'll give him this much. His daugher is openly a lesbian. He didn't try to exploit it with a "I Was the VP and My Daughter is a Dyke" show. As far as I know neither did his daughter.
Typical. See, this is the sort of SNL-type caricature so many of you libs buy into- No discussion of her successful record as the governor of Alaska only an immature shot at her personal life.
Like no one here has ever taken a shot at President Obama's family life. Here's an idea. She could run for governor of Alaska again. The VP thing didn't work out too well.
This is why Palin is also my hero. You don't have to give an opinion of Ms Word Salad, you just have to let her speak for herself. For instance, on the topic of nuclear weapons, if you can figure out exactly what her point is, please let me know.
