Who do you think Romney will choose? Someone who is similar enough to him, but brings qualities he may lack? How about someone who is a polar opposite? I think the former, myself. I doubt Santorum is in the running, or any of the other candidates squeezed-out of the running this season, and Palin ...while interesting... doesn't have as much appeal in the light of day to the righties as she once had. So, any thoughts?
The blandest human being alive probably. You don't want to overshadow the king of bland my friend. Ned Flanders?
A lot of people are saying Romney would want to avoid "the Palin syndrome" ...lol ...But I wouldn't agree with the idea that she was a liability to McCain's run. IMO, she was just what his dustiness needed, and brought in a lot of the votes to the campaign. Not that she is in any way sane or the type of person I would want in the second-slot...(shivers)...her with power...(shivers more)...yikes!
I guess since no one's got any ideas, I'll post what others are considering to be likely candidates. But who is in the running? Tim Pawlenty? The former Minnesota governor is well-regarded with evangelicals... and Romney needs someone with religious clout to counter their potential questioning of his own faith. IMO, he is in the top-tier of his choices.
What about Chris Christie? He may not actually be interested, but he has a bit of sensationalism about him that Romney could use to distract people away from himself. The problem with that is eventually Romney would be so overshadowed by Christie's personality that he'd look more like the VP to Christie's P...not to mention Christie's very name conjours too many references to Christ...and Romney's religion... which he really doesn't want people focusing on.
What about Ohio Senator Rob Portman? I know he has experience, and has supported Romney for some time. I see him as a possible, somewhat safe choice...but with some baggage. I doubt he'd really help bring enough votes to justify his inclusion though, he seems rather bland.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio may be a good fit. He would help bring in the latino votes Romney desperately needs. The downside is his inexperience, Rubio is seen as a possible contender in four years... and not so much today. That said, the same could have been said, and was said by some, about Obama in 2008.
I could see Romney picking someone like Paul Ryan, the "rising star" status he holds in the party is what Romney needs to gain support. On the other hand, the controversial Wisconsin Congressman will also bring a lot of votes in for Obama, so he probably isn't the smartest choice.
I've heard of Bobby Jindal, the governor from Louisiana, being a possible contender. From what I can tell, he too doesn't quite fit the role Romney needs... being seen as too timid by the party. He didn't exactly impress fellow Republicans with his response, on their behalf, to Obama's 2009 speech to a joint session in Congress.
How about Virginia governor Bob McDonnell? His big drawback is being viewed as "anti-women" for the invasive ultrasound procedure that Moen wrote a thread about a while back. Although that is a liability, I wouldn't count him out at this point.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. He has personal, family issues to deal with, and doesn't appear to care to be VP to Romney lol
New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayote would help bring in some women votes, and could be just what he's looking for, but isn't as experienced as one would wish for in a VP running-mate.
I see people are looking at a couple of hispanic Governors as possible contenders: Nevada's Brian Sandoval & New Mexico's Susana Martinez. I don't know much about either of them, but I do know Martinez says she's not interested lol
What about Condoleezza Rice? She would sure bring a lot to the table. But she too is not interested. The story of Romney's search? LOL
I had written an additional comment about that, then deleted most of it in case the kiddies took offense. It was basically about how Romney would "tap" that, since she brings a lot to the table. I'm just assuming some of the kiddies would take that the wrong way! ...those sick puppies!
Ahhhh, see De Orc? It was my fault lol Please feel free to refer to me likewise......It's no. big. deal.
