Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cited seniors' love of junk mail in urging passage of a United States Postal Service reform bill. Somehow, I don't think Reid world is the same one I live in. I am curious, does anyone here know where Reid's real world is?
What an idiot Reid is. As one of the crypt-keepers (Pelosi is another one), he should know better than being ageist.
If you get time, check out how Reid defended BO after BO suggested tourists avoid Las Vegas.....somehow that became Bush's fault too!
Create a government National Do Not Mail Registry (like the National Do Not Call Registry) and let's see how much Seniors (or anyone else) loves getting junk mail. Junk mail destroys the environment and causes us to pay higher taxes. You would think it would both parties to get together to create such a registry.
It's also a burden on the PS. Bulk mailings are very cheap and, if I remember right, the PS may actually lose money on 'em. And I'm with you on the "Do Not Mail" idea lol
No, that is not what I mean. I have done some of those. Those are just links to various consumer sites. Some you can do online. Some you have to write or email or phone. And it certainly does not cover everything. Not even close. You would have to contact dozens and dozens of individual companies to get off their lists. What I mean a is government registry like the National Do Not Call Registry managed by the FTC. https://www.donotcall.gov/faq/faqdefault.aspx Only I imagine a National Do Not Mail Registry would be even more easily handled by the folks actually delivering the Junk Mail...the post office. Put your name on one list made available to all bulk mailers. And the senders are informed that not only do you not want the bulk mail delivered to your property but it won't be delivered if they decide to send it anyway.
I'm sort of into junk mail “in reverse”. When I receive all those credit card offers or insurance mailings or anything that shows up with a pre-paid return envelope from some for-profit, I seal it, save it, and then drop them all in my local mailbox at the end of the month and send them back to the people that sent them to me. The post office gets paid or delivering it, I get rid of it, and the corporations that are paying Republicans to put the post office out of business end up paying to keep them in business. If you think I am making this up just say so and I'll post a picture of my current pile of pre-paid envelopes. There is more than one way to skin a Republican.
Some of the sites I have seen say that is like replying to spam email asking them to take you off their lists...in other words it guarantees more and more junk mail will end up coming to you. On the downside that is probably not real good for the environment or your local government's resources...but, on the bright side, it means your mail hobby will probably never run out of steam.
I just remember reading on a consumer site that it wasn't recommended to do. I figured there might be a code or something on the envelope in all those lines and stuff on them? I really don't know, though, because all of the stuff I still get goes in the shredder, unopened if it fits.
Guess I am in the minority in this one for even if I do not appreciate most junk mail I do realize that it is the best way for small local business to advertise with direct mailing of coupons to get people in the door and that is what keeps a local economy in motion. As for the environment when there is no longer a need for paper or large scale use for wood, I have seen homes built with metal frames and plastic, there will be no need for forests so we better start making more national parks if we want to keep those habitats going.
You will have to get rid of Reid to begin that. He has put a pluck in all meaningful legislation and he likes to receive junk mail.
