We do? Maybe to the bits we like. It's similar to the Bible in that respect.
Since we agree that we don't know when life begins, it might be a little premature to be talking about homicide.

Now we have "viable life" vs plain old "life". It gets even more confusing. That's why I wouldn't leave the decision up to you. Or the government. It makes sense to me that the one most directly and personally involved both emotionally and physically should be allowed to make the decision with the aid of whatever divine or earthly counsel she choses to seek.

Fine. You choose death and I'll choose life.

That makes no sense at all. Explain to me how leaving the decision up to the woman constitutes my choosing death?

The Supreme Court has deemed the independent, pre-natal entity growing within a woman's womb as "life". If you agree with terminating life, you're choosing death.

I neither agree nor disagree. I make no judgement, but defer to the person most affected. I know that this is a hard concept for people raised in the monotheistic tradition of my way or the highway. But that's the way it is.

Wonder how many people would protest if a show on tv broadcast the ripping out of prenatal puppies from its mother.
[IMG] or demonstrate if zoos did the same to elephants.[IMG]Or get really mad if the government paid for the abortions of dolphins

If these pictures moved you then do what you can legally to protect the yet to be born boys and girls from the morally illegal laws of death from Roe vs Wade.

I've already given my opinion that at the point of conception, the moment in time where the sperm delivers it's dna to the egg and the egg begins to use it, a human being is created (technical term is a "zygote")... or more accurately, the process of creating a human being has begun. That's my opinion, and it isn't going to change, but I'm not going to demand that everyone believe it to be true... mostly 'cause I don't care if anyone disagrees with it or not lol

It's also my opinion though, that the level of developement of the fetus dictates the level of anguish someone should feel over the loss of that fetus, intentional or unintentional. That is to say that if the egg split in two and stopped developing... had died... I'd feel far less anguish than if the fetus was a day away from birth and died. A bit callous yes, but the closer the fetus is to being born, the more energy put into it's developement, the more expectations I would have, the more anguish I'd feel as it died.

A few facts that are important to consider:

The embryonic period is the first 8 weeks after fertilization occurs. At 8 weeks the fetus is about 1/2 an inch in length, roughly the size of your fingernail. A small fingernail anyway. I don't feel very strongly against abortions done by this stage of developement, but to say I don't feel anything at all about it would be wrong.

At 12 weeks, the typical cut-off point for abortions, the (now called) fetus is roughly 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches in length....roughly the size of half your thumb to your thumb. By the time a fetus becomes the size of my thumb I feel strongly against abortions. By this time significant developement has occurred and to take it's life away from it after this point seems too cruel and indifferent to it's suffering as it dies.

Spontaneous abortions, or miscarriages, happen when the fetus is expunged from the uteris, and occurs as late as the 20th week of developement. After 20 weeks of developement the expunged fetus is considered to be a premature child if born alive, stillborn if not.
