How much poverty is a choice?

Yeah, that's why the banks just paid out 25 billion in compensation to mortgage recipients they defrauded all because of what Clinton did somewhere between 12 and 20 year ago. And of course it had nothing to do with deregulation of the banking industry under Bush and their aptitude to allow those being regulated to write their own regulation. Sure it did?

 

Exactly what did it accomplish? To "assist mortgage recipients currently or formerly in default and compensate homeowners who are currently under water" seems pretty wide-reaching in scope. From what I read, the recipients will only be receiving a couple thousand apiece from just 4 or 5 banks. Why were these banks the only ones selected for persecution by BO?
It seems more like vote buying and a smokescreen to take attention away from our worsening economic condition.

 

That idiot Clinton ran us off a cliff. It took a while for us to lose traction, but it was just a matter of time. Stupid Clinton.

Since nobody else will reply I will. David's response was a typical David response. Just an attack and OKC loved it. Big surprise. NOT!
Well there was one surprise. David read half of my post and this from a guy that claims he just can't read my posts because they are too long winded . But I digress.

We DID pay back what was owed PLUS interest. Nobody FORCED any bank to take less interest. They freely agreed to it.

As a matter of fact these banks could have just said no. Pay us in full and that is that.

I suppose we could have contacted a church but we don't attend any. We weren/t looking for their damn charity anyway.

Sure as hell could have declared bankruptcy. You know, like big corporations? (Not like that would ever affect anyone - DUHH!)

We took the most responsible way that we could see and actually do. Then we did it.

 

I guess going through CCCs is better than filing for bankruptcy but don't try to fool anyone here by claiming you paid back everything you owed. You may have paid back what you borrowed but the banks had to make special concessions (in response to the threat of potentially filing for bankruptcy) to you (contrary to your contract with them) in order to recoup their money. Their money + the agreed upon interest is what they were owed.
Oh, by the way, I worked with the Red Cross in the early 90's as a volunteer and at that time CCCS was run by the Red Cross so I do have some experience with how they operated.

 

I wasn't the first to use the word, and I freely admit my response was also judgemental. As to the idea of teaching someone how to fish, the counciling you did was just that, and I supported you doing that. But in the larger sense ...the policies you support in American politics... have less to do with "teaching someone how to fish" and more to do with "you don't deserve any fish". I'd also say that Republican policies in general tend to restrict funding for programs that "teach people how to fish", whereas the Democrats tend to be the party that creates those programs in the first place.

Your idea of "personal responsibility" essentially means that you "wash your hands" of other people's inabilities to be financially sound. Besides, "personal responsibility" mantras have little to do with "teaching someone how to fish" unless the belief includes it specifically, and Republicans in general insist it not be included as it is an expense they don't believe is justified.

But ok....let's use your approach. Bush created the biggest deficit in history of ALL Presidents combined out of a surplus he was handed. Check.
Bush was the only Prez in history to invade a sovereign country on a "preemptive" basis, and on manufactured intelligence, lies, and for absolutely NO REASON. Check
Bush created the "no child left behind act" that the current right pool of wing nuts campaigns on reversing. Check.
Bush failed to get Osama Bin Laden a decade later after claiming he was "Wanted...dead or alive"...(then later claimed "he wasn't really concerned about OBL, and it took a Democrat to get the job done prior to halfway through his first term..Check.
Bush was the only POTUS to assist in murdering 3000 people on American soil, in less than an hour. Check.
Bush left office with the economy in "free fall" in 2008, and required the most massive extensive taxpayer bailout in history, and on the verge of economic collapse, obligating future generations to pick up the tab that haven't even been a gleam in their would be, parents eyes yet. Check.

I could go on but, you get the idea.

On a positive note, it is nice to see they are allowing tom more time on the computer...it should help in the "getting well" process (unless you are sneaking onto the computer without permission again?).
