For us old fogies, it is a sad, sad day. Cheetah died http://movies.yahoo.com/news/chimp-1930s-us-tarzan-films-dead-80-093119035.html
Some of those chimps sure can be nasty little buggers... ripping people apart when they reach adulthood. There has been several cases of that happening over the years. They go for appendages... like noses, fingers, toes... and genitals. Nothing says "that sucks" more than having your genitals ripped away from your body by a hormonally-raging adult chimpanzee.
It is indeed a sad thing that Cheetah died, but he lived a long, apparently happy, and healthy life without resorting to genitalia ripping. It's a shame to lose such a cultural icon. Part of the problem with other chimps, which apparently was not a problem with Cheetah, is that people treat chimps like little people. Chimps are not people and should not be anthropomorphized, no matter how fond of them we might be. This chimp lived at a primate sanctuary with human contact. Unlike the Connecticut chimp who ripped a person apart, he was not forced to wear clothing or sleep in a bed with a human being. Although it's apparently unheard of for a chimp to live as long as he was claimed to live, it's clear that he was in an environment for which he was suited. RIP Cheetah.
Sanctuary chimps are not immune to going berserk, and the same is true for chimpanzees in the wild. It's a natural behavior of theirs. Males in the wild fight for dominance of their group and will occasionally kill over it. One story I followed a few years ago was of an older, more gentle and well-liked male who was challenged by a younger, more aggressive male. The older one died from the injuries sustained from one of their fights. The group though, having been quite happy with the older leader ...and not liking his murder, refused to accept the younger male into it's group anymore. The younger chimp was shunned and was forced to live more or less alone... on the outskirts of the group. That meant he was in far more danger from other animals and other groups of chimps.
Chimps are animals and cannot be murdered. Murder is something reserved for human beings. It's funny how I can agree with you and you still find a way to disagree with me. I'll save myself the trouble of posting after you next time.
OY... I forgot... you're one of those people. Killed, murdered, removed from life... whatever...no point in getting cranky about it. I disagreed because your comment suggested that a chimp living in an animal sanctuary, and having human contact, would keep it from ripping someone's throat out. It wouldn't. No point in you ripping mine out either for correcting that misunderstanding. Sheesh!
You know if you followed you own advice, you might find people a lot more pleasant. But then ................
What's also funny is the idea of Republicans complaining about things people do that they themselves do all the time. Well no, it's not funny... it's pathetic. But they're Republicans so that was a given already right?
One of those people? And honestly, I can't understand how a thread about a chimp can become a thread about Republicans and Democrats. Nice way to stay on topic . . .
Why whine about it? I'll answer that for you: You're a Republican... all you know how to do is whine. Don't get your way?: Whine. Get your way?: Whine. You said yourself Cheetah ddin't have a soul so why whine? Again: You're a Republican. Now whine some more about it.
(Stands up, claps) Bravo, bravo. Come up with that all by yourself? Nope. You're a Republican, thinking for yourself isn't something you can do. Now: Repeat it forty more times and whine about taxes Dave. I mean really, how many times are you going to use that same old dim-witted comment? Pathetic: Republican.
I remember Weismuller on the Tonight Show saying how you could tell when Cheetah was about to go off. He carried a blackjack under his loin cloth and said a good whack calmed him down.
Hmmmm . . . yes, there is that. However, I was addressing the "Leno" part of the comment, not the unattributable Weissmuller quote.
