A vigilant TSA official at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas recognized the frosting on a cupcake as a potential security threat and duly confiscated not only the frosting but the entire pint-sized pastry in the interest of flight safety. The topping was partially hidden under a light blanket of red sprinkles, but the officer was not fooled.

The passenger who was carrying this device was inexplicably allow to proceed with her flight rather than being detained indefinitely, but at least she was disarmed. It is not clear from the story what the fate of the killer cake was. Presumably the bomb experts were called in and no doubt exploded it in a secure area.

Hmmm.... Never thought of the anthrax angle. Man that thing could have taken out an entire city maybe.

I would be a lot less concerned about cupcakes than I would be about the Obama administration's attempt to monitor forums such as the one we are on right now:

Privacy Group Sues DHS Over Social Media Monitoring Program

    Reuters
    Dec. 24, 2011:
A privacy advocacy group is suing the Department of Homeland Security for information about an emerging program designed to monitor social media activity.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center, claiming the "legal authority for the DHS program remains unclear," went to federal court in Washington, D.C., this past week to try and compel the department to turn over documents on the initiative.

Though still in development, DHS is looking to establish a system for monitoring "forums, blogs, public websites and message boards." The idea is to gather and analyze publicly available information, and then use that information to help officials respond to disasters and other situations.

But the program has raised flags among privacy groups like EPIC, which this past April filed a Freedom of Information Act request for records -- a request the group's lawsuit claims DHS has not honored.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday expressed concern that information DHS gathers could be stored for up to five years and shared, noting that Internet users "routinely" post personal information in online communications and "have no reason to believe that the Department of Homeland Security is tracking their every post."

Okay, you can hijack the thread but only because I pretty much agree with you on this. Obama has taken the shredding of the Constitution started by GB and his gang of bloody handed fear-mongers and continued it apace. One thing he taught me early on is just because one knows and has studied the Constitution it doesn't follow that one will defend it. And of course Congress has almost always gone along with this steady erosion of our rights, the fear of being labeled soft on terror far outweighing the fear of Big Brother and the police state.

Hmmmmm. Also, I can't seem to find the news article I referenced anywhere on MSNBC. How odd...

Hmmmmm . . . of course it was a red velvet cupcake . . . those things are devious and subversive and completely addictive. And they're *RED* you know? Obviously the TSA would consider one to be a threat.

There could be even more to this story. I happen to work witn an Elvis fanatic. Pretty sure red velvet cake was high on his list of yummies.
Now he's supposedlly been dead for years but how many Elvis sightings have there been over the years? I think I saw him in Kalamazoo several years ago at a Wendys.

Now what really makes me wonder is the city in which the potential explosives were confiscated. Las Vegas.
Did Elvis spend any time there folks? Hmmmm...
we've got red velvet cake, Las Vegas and possibly Elvis plotting the overthrow of the U.S. or even the world.

To whom should I report this to folks? If it's not already being monitored that is.

Someone who really likes cupcakes? ;) But my question would be 'Who would try to bring down an airplane with cupcake frosting?' Even that guy that tried blow up a plane with his rain and sweat soaked shoe would probably balk at a cupcake frosting bomb plan.

And airlines really do have the worst food you can get while flying. TSA makes sure of it.
