So what's the deal with the Keystone XL pipeline project?

But to say that the only jobs that will be available once the pipeline is laid is "standing over" the buried pipeline is ludicrous. Granted, the people involved solely in construction will lose their jobs--but that is the nature of construction. Eventually, jobs end because the thing being constructed is finished being constructed and people in the field are aware of that fact. However, there are still people involved in monitoring and maintenance and people who will handle the crude oil after it makes its way through the pipeline. People will be involved in the refining process, both in removing the sulfur (if that's the goal) or refining it into diesel fuel. We here in the Gulf produce mostly sour crude oil, so refineries that handle the oil produced here are fully capable of handling the sour crude. EVEN IF the full 20,000 jobs are lost (unlikely) then the oil coming into the region will help the people who work for the refineries to keep their jobs. There is really no downside to this pipeline, except that it does not fit into the current administration's green job/green energy agenda.

Then what other 20,000 jobs will be created that even TransCanada isn't mentioning? Just curious.

Listen, the only one here to mention 20,000 is you. So in stead of agreeing or disagreeing (I can't keep up with which) with what we have not said, why don't you just tell us the facts about this 20,000.

That's what you get for jumping into the middle of someone else's conversation with tangential nonsense. You don't know where it started , where it's going or where you've been but you're still absolutely certain you're right and I am wrong. Go back and read the whole thread and then comment or don't, I don't care.

If you could actually stay on topic, you'd know that.....

David was the OP and I had post #2. You did not jump in until post #13, but you are accusing me of "jumping into the middle of someone else's conversation". Care to explain that? Probably not.

I said that you were the only one to mention 20,000. So your proof (?) that I was wrong was your post citing the left wing talking points I keep asking you to back up. As I already stated,
Since that post, Canada is now meeting with China about building a pipeline to send the oil to Asian markets. http://thedaleygator.wordpress.com/...-after-obama-drags-feet-on-keystone-pipeline/ So now the jobs forecast to be lost by your "sources" are going to be lost anyway and unless we decide to start the pipeline, we won't even have the miniscule gains you admit are possible with the pipeline and future processing of the oil because it will be in China. Would you care to explain how that is good for us? I will bet that is another topic you will avoid.

I did not follow this story but it seems to me if we can import oil from canada, drill our own oil that we have in our own midwest most northern states then we would need less if not no arab and opec would lose money. Why we could even export more. Arab lobbyist money does not want an oil independent usa

moen still hasn't responded to the point I made regarding this bit of the project. How can a liberal support BO's stimulus but not the job creation of this pipeline. Aren't temporary construction jobs & the local benefit of these jobs the core of BO's stimulus?
I guess it's okay (in the liberal world) to poo-poo thousands of jobs if it helps BO gain eco-dollars for his re-election bid, huh?

Not really tracking any of the direct personal attacks, I'd still like to know from anyone where these 20,000 jobs are going to be once the pipeline is laid. Not that I actually believe that there will be 20,000 jobs in the first place, I just want to know what those 20,000 people will be doing once the pipeline has been laid.

Boy it took you a whole page to flip-flop on that one. Voting for Mitt in November much?

Actually, I was calling you out on your hypocrisy. The "temporary" aspect was your take.
So what's your answer? How can you blast the pipeline project as only providing "temporary" jobs while supporting BO's stimulus for doing the exact same thing?

I think this pipeline fits the definition of a "shovel-ready" job. Obama must think differently.

Look at the top of the page for a response to the types of jobs still available after the pipeline is laid. The 20,000 job figure was yours: you defend it. As to personal attacks? *meh* Let's not pretend that you can be an offended party in that regard, at least in 95% of the threads on this forum, okay?

NO! The 20,000 jobs is the figure that TransCanada and the RW has been quoting. Get your facts straight.

Key Vote Alert Letter in support of H.R. 1938, the "North American-Made Energy Security Act"
    Friday, July 22, 2011
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region, supports H.R. 1938, the “North American-Made Energy Security Act,” which would help facilitate better coordination of the Keystone XL Pipeline federal permit approval process and give much needed certainty by providing a deadline for a decision on the Presidential permit.

Increasing global demand for energy and the continued economic and political volatility in many oil producing regions demonstrates a clear and growing need here at home for all forms of reliable and affordable energy. Canada remains the largest supplier of imported oil and natural gas to the United States. According to a report done for the U.S. Department of Energy (Ensys, 2010), U.S. refining and importing of Canadian crude could more than double in the next two decades. This projected increase would curb dependency on oil from other countries, some of whom are unstable or unfriendly to U.S. interests.

Canada is a secure and reliable source of affordable energy, and the Keystone XL Pipeline project provides the U.S. with a tremendous opportunity to take advantage of a stable source of needed energy from a strategic ally. The pipeline project is expected to create more than 20,000 high-paying construction and manufacturing jobs in the near term and more than 250,000 permanent jobs in the long run (The Perryman Group, 2010). The Alberta oil sands will be developed to produce crude, regardless of the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Without the pipeline project to connect this new source of Canadian crude to U.S. refiners in the Midwest and Texas, the Canadian crude will be shipped to non-U.S. markets, mostly in Asia.

H.R. 1938 would help facilitate the Keystone XL federal permit process by making the Department of Energy responsible for coordinating all necessary federal actions relating to the cross border permitting process. By requiring the President to make a final decision on the Keystone XL project within 30 days after the final Environmental Impact Statement or by November 1, 2011, this legislation would provide industry and labor a definitive approval deadline, ending more than two years of federal consideration and an endless stream of delays. Additionally, the bill explicitly ensures existing environmental review responsibilities are not impacted.
The Chamber strongly urges you to support H.R. 1938. The Chamber may consider votes on, or in relation to, this issue in our annual How They Voted scorecard.

    Sincerely,
    R. Bruce Josten
    US Chamber of Commerce

So David, Andy, HollysMom, CoinOKC, and myself (all right wing to one extent or another) have never mentioned the 20,000 figure, but it shows up in your posts, Greenpeace, Cornell, and the EPA (all left wing) all talk about it. Somehow you have managed to translate that into " figure that TransCanada and the RW has been quoting". My guess is that all of the right here does not give two shakes if it is 20,000, 2,000, or 200,000, they do not want to risk losing it to China.

Why do you delete the news I referred. Because it's too true to be known by others?

It's not for environment. It's to bribe China to agree war on Iran because China imports oil from Iran.

This issue has faded from the headlines but the fact remains that BO single-handedly killed thousands of jobs this country desperately needs just to secure funding & support from the eco groups to aid his re-election efforts.
