You've got to be kidding me..... http://blog.heritage.org/2011/11/08/obama-couldnt-wait-his-new-christmas-tree-tax/
I heard last week the idea of taxing Christmas trees was being floated by the BO admin but I laso heard yesterday that the program was going to be delayed. Sounds like it's full speed head for BO & the tax increases.
I found that: The fee, requested by the National Christmas Tree Association in 2009, was first announced in the Federal Registry yesterday and has generated criticism of President Obama from conservative media outlets. By taxing themselves, growers will raise $2 million a year for ads promoting the merits of real, live trees. Or, at least, trees that once were living, as opposed to the artificial kind that have seized an increasing share of the holiday market. The NCTA requested a tax to enhance their image/marketing efforts. I don't know if I'd even notice 15₵ tacked on to the price of a tree nor can I figure out why trees are exempt from sales tax anyway. It is just another commodity like any other. It is grown, cut, and sold and a profit is made. But to call this Obama's tax on Christmas just seems silly, but this is Partisan Lines after all.
Good way to raise some extra revenue so why not Bah Humbug and all that You might find this proposed tax another matter though and it was raised at the G20 the other day it's called a "Robin Hood Tax" http://www.independent.co.uk/news/b...ood-tax-may-sound-good-but-is-it-6257750.html It is something that is gaining support not only in Europe but also further afield
I'm sure that if you investigate the NCTA you find that it's a Socialist front organization and has working ties that "Democrat Machine" that''s causing Herman so much grief. I wouldn't be surprised if Rick Perry was involved as well. I want to see O'Reilly all over this one.
The Robin Hood Tax is a natural consequence of the fact that tax payers in this country rescued the banking system after they had leveraged themselves into bankruptcy. The implementation of the net capital rule in 2004 opened the flood gates of no holds barred investing well beyond the financial institutions assets. I wouldn't mind seeing these same institutions have to pay a quarter of a penny on each financial transaction. It certain isn't going to run them out of business.
Yeah. Not so sure we need to raise revenue so we can advertise for some industry to sell their goods, though. But it illustrates what I said in another post about looking at our tax code to see that we do not have, nor want, a 'free market'.
I wouldn't worry. Wight the good ole' GOP in there to "just say no" to everything, I think you're safe.
...and this was instituted during the Bush presidency wasn't it? ...at the request of the tree association as a means of promoting naturally grown trees over artificial?
I like that this is characterized as "Obama's tax". We had a brief period of Obama snow today. Last night about 4:30 we began to lose sunlight and we got Obama's night.
Yeah that pretty well sums it up. I loved how they took the Iraq troop withdrawal that Bush agreed to and tried to make it sound like some kind of failure on the Obama administration. It honestly surprises me that some Republican somewhere hasn't tried to say that somehow Obama had a hand in 9/11.
