I can clarify the definition. 'Poor' is someone who makes some, probably significant, amount less than $200K a year and a poor family is one that makes some, probably significant, amount less than $250K a year because those have been defined as upper limits for the 'middle class' (yeah, right) and also the approximate upper limits of the 99% of which the poor are a part.
Where am I denying anything? So far I have not even been able to figure out what you two are talking about yet and you refuse to define it.
Supporting documentation or facts is one thing. Asking me, however politely, to define poor is obnoxious. You know the definition. Your intent was an attempt at being clever... or simply to be a *poof*.
There you go again. You said: Where the hell did you learn logic from? If you paid money for it you should sue to get it back, 'cause it sucks.
On a related note: I see a lot of wealthy people who believe they are not wealthy... and I don't mean anyone from here, though there has been a case or two of that here as well. As an example: A few years ago an 18 year old was in our local paper. He had just started a construction business a few months before and the paper was doing a story on it. He was quoted as suggesting that "anyone can start a business like I did and be successful"... and he believed it. And I have no doubt, because I know he never had to worry about having enough food to eat, mommy and daddy were wealthy. I know he never had to worry about having enough clothing or shelter to keep him warm, mommy and daddy saw to that. I know he never had to worry about coming down with a treatable illness or injury and not get treatment, yep... mommy and daddy. When he turned 18 mommy and daddy gave him over a million dollars to start that company (I forget the amount, though it was over a million), and so he did. That he thinks anyone can be as successful as himself is amazingly ignorant... something I see in a lot of wealthy people.
So you think asking you what you are talking about is denying it? That is logic? Well, I guess it qualifies for liberal logic, maybe.
Yes, but what is YOUR definition of "poor"? Let's break Webster's definition down, shall we? 1. LACKING MATERIAL POSSESSIONS Where is the line drawn? Having no car? Having a bicycle instead of a car? Having only the clothes on your back? Having some extra clothes in the trunk of your car? Having a little bit of food? No food at all? Having a house? Having no house? Renting a house? Living in your car? Living on the street? Living at a friend's house? Living in a cardboard box? Living at a shelter? Receiving food stamps? Receiving housing assistance? Receiving WIC (the nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children)? Receiving LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program). Not receiving any governmental assistance? Having only one iPad? This list goes on endlessly... 2. HAVING LITTLE TO NO MEANS TO SUPPORT ONESELF No one has the means to support himself unless he has income. Income is derived from many sources, but mostly from employment. Are these "poor" people you're talking about unable to find employment? If they're unemployed, have they considered taking a job below their skill levels in order to sustain themselves? How about more than one job? If they're physically unable to work, have they applied for SSI, food stamps, housing assistance, disability, etc.? If they're mentally challenged and unable to obtain employment, there are facilities across the country set up to help them. 3. NEEDY:IMPOVERISHED You'll have to tell me what you consider "needy" or "impoverished". Many people are needy and want more than they have. But, that's a good thing, actually. It's called "greed" and it's a driving force in human nature that makes a person want to improve his lot in life. Now, the dictionary definition of "impoverished" simply means that one is in poverty. Many people in this country are in poverty, but sustain themselves nevertheless on what they have (along with government assistance). Some desire to obtain more and work hard to achieve it. There's nothing wrong with hard work. Certainly, there are going to be people in this country who fall through the cracks. Perhaps they don't know where to obtain housing assistance. Perhaps they don't know how to obtain food stamps, WIC, etc. That is more of an "outreach" concern that the government should focus on. In this country, there's no reason for a person to die in their home because they can't pay a heating bill. Or to die for lack of food. There are charities, churches who help, government assistance, housing options, energy assistance, food banks, etc. Now, the question I have for you is "Do you agree with the dictionary definition of the word 'poor'"? That's a simple question and I think even you can answer it (eventually)....
I can see another possible reason you two are playing stupid, besides the unlikely scenerio that both of you have no idea what the definition of poor is: It is also possible you are intentionally infuriating me in the hope that I break the forum's rules and get banned. Granted, I've skirted up to the line on those rules, but I don't believe I have crossed them since my last "vacation"... and it's entirely possible you two clowns (to borrow the word from lehigh since it literally applies to one of you), it's possible you two would like that, highly likely even... given your comments. If that is the reason you two witless are playing stupid, then you should know something: I may not be the smartest person on this forum, but even on either of your best days...and me on my worst... I'd know more about the way of things. So, please.... please continue to play stupid. Maybe one day you'll understand a thing or two about the poor... but it's more likely you'll take it too far and just dribble like morons at the sight of a piece of candy. I'd personally like to see that, if only to film it and show it to kids... so they know how not to act like fools.
I know what poor is, when I got out of the Army I was homeless and living on the streets I met a guy in Hyde Park (London) who got me a part time job at Lords Cricket ground and from that I got another part time job on a building site. I continued to sleep out for another 2 months till I had enough for a flat (thankfully it was summer) So yeh I can relate to what IQ is saying There are still people today who will not get the support that they need they fall through the cracks in the system, some just dont know where to go for help others are too proud (specialy old folk) so yeh there are agencies out there but believe me they dont have the funds to get to everyone People die of hunger and cold in this country in winter the same as in the US, they are the missed ones
Great comments. You obviously cannot answer the question so you take to the insults. Sounds a lot like someone else around here.
WOW... that is unreal. I sincerely hope your type of people never gain a majority in our country. I know there are a lot like you, I just hope your beliefs die-out eventually and reason has a chance to reign... but holy *poof* ...that post was unreal.
Keep it up... I'll let people with reasoning skills above a rat make up their own mind as to what's right here and what's wrong. In the meantime, bite me.
blah, blah, blah... Like your comments are the work of a master of literature right? How if I ask something equally dumb then? How about if I asked "Define "a""? It's a dumb question, and so was Coin's. You two just don't want to admit that. Fine, don't. I don't care. The moment you let it go, so will I ...but if you want more "debate" on the subject, by all means, continue.
THANK you... I almost forgot what a person sounds like when they are reasonable. I know why they are obstinate about it (it's not in their belief system to view the poor as anything less than people prone to laziness... that they are unwilling to work as hard as they themselves did), and why they refuse to view it any other way (we all brain-wash ourselves to believe things that are not true, though some more than others), and why I'm the focus (I argue against the unreasonable, especially when the subject of the poor comes up... I made that clear, they know it, and they have been my focus for some time now). So, how about those Packers?
I can't read youtube... and the computer I scraped together doesn't like videos much. Three minutes is much too long for this computer, it'd be more like half an hour to an hour ...on a good day... or not at all. So if you have a point, write it. I'll read it and comment on it.
That's the furthest thing from my mind. I enjoy making a fool out of you. But, that's only possible if you keep posting your inane rants. That was obvious from your very first post on this forum. We've all been playing you for the fool since then. I understand what "poor" is, you witless *poof*. I've been there. I don't think you know what poor is or else you would have defined it by now, you *poof*ing dip*poof*. Moronic, brainless dolts seem to think they know all the answers, but in reality they don't have a clue. I've long known that you're completely clueless. Your idiotic vitriol adds nothing to this forum and I'm seriously considering just ignoring you. Reading your posts is a complete waste of time since you do nothing but rant. Your left-wing hackery makes me want to puke especially when you do nothing more than repeat what your master says. Please do everyone a favor and get a job and get a life. People are tired or hearing you whine.
