Apparently, the Oakland PD is pointing their collective fingers at the city's mayor, Jean Quan, for being the cause of the incident that erupted at the Occupy Oakland protest. They appear to be taking the position that the mayor encouraged city workers to support the protestor--and even join them--while at the same time telling the police to beef up security and then to take action against them. Some people have encouraged a recall vote to remove Quan from office (both within the Occupy protest group and outside of it), which seems to have some support. It seems like the mess in Oakland goes much deeper than the violence at the protest.
