It's not a particularly astute observation that people would rather be paid for doing what they want to do rather than being paid for something they may not want to do. I think the vast, vast, vast majority of people do want to work and earn a living wage and better themselves and their children's lives. Americans are some of the hardest working people in the world by any definition. We live to work as they say. If you've ever travelled the world, you'd know that this work ethic isn't universal. We are pretty unique in this respect.

It may not be "a particularly astute observation", but apparently Tom missed that day in school. BTW, I would not pretend to know this for sure (like you do), but my guess is that I have spent considerably more time than you traveling the world.

Ooops, sorry Tom... I was thinking you'd be fair-minded and split your profit. But, hey if you can find an employee to work for pennies, why not? And you, as the employer, could spend more time on your laptop searching for dumpsters to dive (thereby giving you an advantage over other dumpster-divers who don't know where all the dumpsters are), coordinating transportation to the dumpsters, timing the dumpster-dives to the weather (so you don't get rained or snowed on), timing the dumpster-emptying schedule with the local sanitation department (you don't want to arrive after the dumpster is emptied), coordinating transportation for all your found treasures, etc. Then you will have to spend time taking the treasures to the pawn shops, making the deals, transporting the treasures the pawn shops didn't want back to your campsite, storing those treasures until you can find a pawn shop who wants them and cataloging the treasures on your laptop so you'll know the best time to sell them (you don't want to sell overcoats in summer or lawn mowers in winter).

Don't forget that you'll have to pay the local utility company for the electricity to run your laptop, pay the local internet provider for access, pay the cost of replacement parts for your laptop and probably buy a spreadsheet program to calculate your statistics. You might also think about hiring someone to guard the treasures at your campsite when you're away (but, also calculate a certain amount for pilferage). It's also a good idea to buy insurance in case your campfire catches all your treasures on fire. If your helper or your security guard calls in sick, you'll need to hire a replacement for however long they're gone, but you'll still need to pay your original employees no matter what. And don't forget that you're going to have to help pay for their doctor bills. Plus, they need weekends off, you can't work them over 40 hours per week, you need to give them "personal days" and forget about working them on holidays. You'll need to know their religious beliefs and disabilities so you can accommodate for any special needs they may have. Oh, and you need to hire a racially-diverse couple of employees so you won't have the labor department breathing down your neck. You'll also need to calculate their yearly earnings and issue W-2s for tax purposes. Don't forget to calculate federal, state, Social Security and all that stuff. It can get rather complicated so you might consider hiring a CPA if you don't already know tax laws. Don't forget to file your I-9s and W-4s. And be prepared just in case you're hit with a Worker's Compensation lawsuit.

I know this sounds like a lot of work.. in fact you might consider hiring a Human Resources Manager to help you with all the paperwork. Also, it's a good idea if you incorporate before you start your business. Many companies incorporate in Delaware, so I've provided the following link to assist you:

Then you realize how hardworking we are as a people. I don't want to get into a, "I've traveled more than you" pissing contest but it seems odd to me that you didn't agree that we are a hardworking people. If you've traveled at all, you not only see this firsthand but you gain a lot of respect for the American worker if you worship hardworking people.

Please do show me one time I have failed to "agree that we are a hardworking people". The one exception might be Tom and that is based on his numerous comments here.

Having people work for pennies just makes good corporate "business" sense. Why should I, as an employer, be required to surrender any of my excess luxury? Put that aside for now though. "Pennies" are all my greed will allow me to part with. That coordination stuff? I'll just hire some other desperate chump, pay him something less than is required to keep a cockroach alive to do all that, and tell him if he doesn't produce mega profit for me, he'll be gone. Weather issues? Hey, I'll just take claim the losses on my taxes and get my annual government handout to cover it. Let the rest of the poor slobs that aren't as fortunate as me take the hit. Screw 'em. Too many lazy beggers anyway, and it's not my problem, cause, I'm doing great. I can make cash hand over fist without paying anyone anyway. Who needs the scum? Not my successful ass. The sanitation issue? Not my problem. It's the jackoff's I just hireds problem. He can't do it without making me mega profit, (not simply enough profit, cause there is NEVER enough, I'm talkin' schmega mega profit, not what's reasonable, just what I require, strike that, DESIRE to maintain my lavish lifestyle of excess) well, hey..he's outta here! Pawn shops? Again...not my problem. Storage? I'll have plenty more of that when my family's mortgage company (whose mega wealth I was born into), forecloses on the poor, ignorant idiots who can't afford to maintain their mega debt. Again...not my problem. Tough apples! Maybe they should work more jobs, more hours for less pay...whatever. I'm fine so who really gives a s**t? Utilities? Internet? Laptop? Software? All write offs my man. All pure profit, all compliments of Joe the loser taxpayer (that I fired yesterday and will downsize tomorrow). A guard? For what? All automated my friend. I ain't payin' a human being when I can get state of the art technology to guard my treasures! It may cost more initially, but I'll never have to deal with the whining laborer again! Insurance? I'll just wait till it all crashes, maybe invest in some put options, and collect when the next round of bailouts is forced on the poor, ignorant parasites that aren't as talented as I. Doctor bills? I'm fine, and I already have a great plan. Screw the near worthless employee. Again, not my problem. I'm good. That's really all that matters. The 40 hour problem? No problem at all. I'll just make them "salary" and force them to work all I want. Done. Personal time? Holidays? Screw them. They're lucky they have a job and I'll decide when I will grant them time off (once they put in their 60 hours...minimum). They don't like it? Tough apples. I have a champagne bill to pay every week. Religion? Their religion is my religion and I'll decide what they will be required to believe (if they want a job). Special needs? I won't be hiring those kinds of whining losers, so, that will never be an issue (unless of course, the government will let me write it off at the end of the year). Diversity? My pool of useless employees will never end, and turnaround is something I'm quite used to, so whatever idiot I can get to do it for pennies on the dollar will suffice. I'll claim the "losses" (LOL) at year's end. Department of labor? Not an issue. I'll only hire illegals if anybody gives me any grief, or just ship everything to some third world country and practice my abusive, slave like tactics elsewhere. Taxes, SSI, and the rest? Mere piddlins' from the gazillions I steal every day. Not an issue, and I'll get Joe to do it after he finishes his 60 hour, salaried shift, and though apples if he has a life. He'd better just do it if he wants that projected 1 percent raise 5 years down the road. Lawsuits? No problem. I'll just file bankruptcy, change the name of my company, and wash my hands of any of the responsibility (I never had). LOL...suckers!). Managers? Just one (who'll polish my knob on demand and cut the throats of anyone who tries to interfere with my objective of mega wealth.
Delaware? Actually that's where a large percentage of the biggest criminals (outside of Wall street) congregate. You're correct. I'll have all my assets well protected off shore anyway, not in the shill corporation I set up there.

Hey..isn't that the republican platform? Everybody get rich!
Who would be around to make the employers even richer?
Without an employee to exploit, and an accountant to fudge the books, the whole thing kinda falls apart, doesn't it?

But that is the end result. In order to get there, you still have to have everyone become an employer. So if you won't answer for the rest of the population, why won't you becomes an employer?

You mean an exploiter, not an employer. Market strategists..profiteers. Cause they're going to Hell soon?
The only thing the majority of them "employ" are bad morals, accounting fraud, and stealing.

Yeah, I don't think there are any rules against starting a business and paying all of your employees a middle class income...say $200,000 or $250,000 a year...regardless of the job they do or how muc money the company makes. And you can use any extra profits at the end of the year to hire more $200,000 or $250,000 a year middle class employees or just donate the extra profits to homeless shelters, food banks, etc. Let me know when you are hiring for the housekeeping, administrative assistant or handyman positions.

Do I want to crush my neighbor, and make his or her life a living Hell....No..I don't. The minute you become "incorporated", you begin the rape. I'm old school. I believe in decency.
