It's about time!! http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2011/08/25/lawsuit-seeks-costs-michelles-south-africa-trip/ Typical lib hypocrisy.....Do as I say, not as I do!!
Half a million dollars?!?!?!? Come on Michelle, these are hard times we're living in. Stop the traveling already!!
I doubt there is anything illegal or even unethical about it. But, I think it is good to have actual monetary figures for trips like this out in the public eye.
Illegal, you are probably correct, but not unethical? Really? But only because she is trying to keep several hundred employed.
I really don't know what the rules and precedence are for trips like this. Certainly, if I took my family on an official trip and utilized government transportation for it, I would be fired. But I am sure the rules are different for President and his family than they are for me and my family. So, unethical in this instance, I am not convinced. I did chuckle at the 'vacation component' part. I don't see anything wrong with enjoying the local area once your official duties are done for the day. I would be free to hit a museum or historical landmark after work when on the road. And, again, I am sure the President and his family get a lot more leeway than I would in that too.
She is just lucky she didn't watch one of her kids play a baseball game after the flight, it might have upset the libs.
Hypocrisy requires you to complain about something you yourself are also guilty of. For example.... I really don't remember Cons crying about Laura Bush's African safari with her two daughters. If so, I invite Cons to show me the links to Republican pundit articles criticizing that trip. Hypocrisy? Oh Yeaahh! View attachment 225
I don't see it as hypocrisy. Laura took her trip during BOOM times when the country was flying high. Michelle took her trip during BUST times when the country is swirling down the drain. If the country doesn't have the money (and we don't!) then it's time to close the purse, stop spending and settle down. There are plenty of museums, zoos and landmarks for Michelle to visit in the D.C. area. It would take her all four years of Obama's "presidency" just to tour the Smithsonian!
So you named 1 trip for Laura in her 8 years at the white house (with zero financial figures), but I can name at least 4 for Michelle in her 3 years.
So you're saying that during Bush we had no deficit, no debt, and weren't borrowing from foreign countries to pay for our spending? I'm kind of curious what your definition of boom times is? cough* cough* rationalization…
I do agree that in thes hard times goverment officials including leaders need to show restraint, this goes for my own country as well as your We have recently had a few Mp's end up in Prison for missusing there privlages perhaps you should take a leaf from our play book on this score. If they take a family trip they should pay for there part and get the security provided for free. Of course this makes me a die in the wool lib/socialist/commi red LOL
Just a guess, but less that $1,000,000 which has been documented for just 2 of her trips. But it was you statement that is was OK for Michelle because Laura did it first. It seems to me that the onus is on you to show Laura's spending.
The problem is that it is impossible for the First Lady to take any trip without a boatload of security that she has no choice about. If she were to just sit in a room in the back of the White House, I'm sure the Right-wingers would find a way to complain about that too. This is just another example of pure pettiness which is all too common from the ranks of the Righties. They have never met a criticism that they couldn't embrace. Libya is just the most recent example of their hypercriticism. It just makes them look even more foolish.
Hey, didn't you just bring up Laura Bush & a trip she took? I think hypocrisy would be your questioning of Bush's trip yet posting this regarding Michelle's travel.
I didn't point out Laura Bush's trip until you questioned Michelle Obama's trip. And I only did that to point out your hypocrisy. Are you just slow or something?
I question the term "being investigated" because Judicial Watch, Inc. filed something under the freedom of information act. That hardly merits an "investigation". But whatever! Judicial Watch, Inc., a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation, promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law. Through its educational endeavors, Judicial Watch advocates high standards of ethics and morality in our nation's public life and seeks to ensure that political and judicial officials do not abuse the powers entrusted to them by the American people. Judicial Watch fulfills its educational mission through litigation, investigations, and public outreach. Oh! Conservative and non-partisan.
But the fact remains- you pointed out Laura Bush's trip (see post #6) then turned right around in post #15 and call it foolish to discuss it Here's your exact quote: "Hypocrisy requires you to complain about something you yourself are also guilty of." Now what were you saying about slow?
The fact is that this is a very stupid thread. The fact is that there is no "investigation". And the final fact is that in post #15, it was the hypercriticism of the Right that makes you guys look so foolish.
