Obviously jobs are being created. Who our red-white-and-blue corporate masters are creating them for is the question.

Even as a blindly loyal Mac user I have to acknowledge that Cupertino is as exploitive of Asian labor and as unconcerned about Americans and American workers as the rest of them. These are the folks who own the Republicans and most of the Democrats. Somehow I don't see them having our best interests at heart.

You'll have to excuse De Orc... he's a damn Britt...:D... I mean, he calls socker "football":p

...The numbers suprized me somewhat, I haven't payed that much attention to them in quite a while, but it's a damn shame that America considers this the way to do business. IMO, we are shooting ourselves in the foot everytime we give our multinationals more 'incentives'. People complain about our (corporate America's) inability to create jobs all the time, not fully realizing we ARE creating jobs ALL the time... in foreign countries.

IMO, giving corporations, especially multi-nationals, more 'incentives' and tax-breaks just puts more money into the company's top executives pockets. It's a waste of money. Yet anti-socialists tend to think of these incentives and tax-breaks as 'investments' in America, while ignoring the poor people who die from lack of proper care, food, and housing... they consider THOSE people to be pariahs and any effort made to alleviate their suffering as "Socialist!" policies.

We, as a society, should be able to take care of each other and help those in need... but it seems we are more concerned with helping millionaires become billionaires.

Obviously these corporations need more tax breaks and less regulations because those are the only reasons that they are not creating jobs in this country. Or maybe it's the dollar a day they get to pay people in the third world? Fine, have an extremely high import tax on those corporations that use foreign labor to make a product and sell them in US markets.

Moen. Regulations are job-killers, man. Ditto taxes. Don't you know that the only way to a healthy economy is no rules, no corporate taxes, and subsistence pay for the little people? ;)

Actually, it's the uncertainty surrounding these issues that is slowing job growth. Considering your personal budget, would you lay out a major expenditure
if you had no idea what new expenses you would have in the near future?

You're right. Uncertainty is a problem. And I don't see how the Republicans are helping to make this uncertainty go away by trying to make raising the debt ceiling into an ongoing issue with an uncertain outcome.

Capping debt & addressing our debt issue goes a long way in securing our long term economic condition. Borrowing, spending, printing more money, spending more, borrowing more and so on has gotten us where we are now. If we don't address it now, when should we address it?
But the debt ceiling isn't the only issue effecting confidence, keep that in mind. Uncertainty over additional expenses associated with Obamacare is worrisome. Taxation is the biggest concern though. Every lib in the country is screaming for more taxes so these businesses owners have no idea what's in store.

Well I guess I'd need to know what exactly "capping our debt" means and what would be its consequences, keeping in mind that the debt ceiling needed to be raised so that we could pay the bills and interest we'd already racked up, not to give us more money to spend going forward. And also keeping in mind that the Republicans had no problem with the debt ceiling back when they were in charge. Raised it every single time with nary a peep and were totally cool with it as long as they could run the store from the back room on borrowed funds while keeping low taxes as the big display in their shop window.

I think what we need is consumer spending and the resulting jobs Once the economy is generating some money for people other than those who already have piles of it then we can tackle the deficit, The Republicans were all about jobs during the election and the day after they took the House they suddenly became all about taxes. If low taxes generated jobs we wouldn't be in this fix. I've never met a businessperson who on the strength of a tax cut went out and started hiring. The ones I know hire people because there is work for them to do that will generate a net profit. And there is work because people spend money on goods and services. And they're not going to spend because of a larger tax refund, or an extra $100 in a monthly paycheck that could turn into a pink slip tomorrow. They spend because they have some confidence in their economic future. David, I understand the predictability thing. I just fail to see how either the Republicans or the Democrats are doing anything to bring it about. This turned into kind of a rant. Sorry

I guess it could be explained as knowing when enough is enough. Think about your own household. Can you allow your debt to keep building & building?
