He has been running to the center for a while. I think ever since the Bailouts and Healthcare were over. His too biggest compromises on the Bush Tax Cuts and the Debt Ceiling were very far away from what the hardcore left wanted. Same with his stance on gay marriage. I don't think much of it is really what he believes but I think he believes it can get him re-elected.

Compromise is essential, especially is politics. I give Obama credit for knowing this and making concessions that may actually hurt his chance at getting relected. It's the hardliners on both sides that are keeping the moderates from reaching agreements.

But sometimes all "compromise" gets you is a band-aid and a can kicked on down the road.

whats better compromise or continual stalemate with nothing been done and the entire problem re appearing continualy?

A compromise that doesn't fix a problem simply puts the same stalemate in the next guys lap.

But it might well go part way to solving a problem David and whan that is realised by both parties then they might well be more willing to try again, after all that is the entire idea of politics or did you not realise that? all politics that work are made up of compromises as you have a 2 party system (we have a multi party system so compromise is required)
The only time you have no real political compromise is in a Dictatorship

I don't disagree there's a time & a place for compromise, in fact compromise is necessary in most situations but when you are at a breaking point it can be better to stick to principles and let the chips fall where they may.

Ah so in your view as long as it is Republican principles that are taken forwards and no others then that is your idea of a compramise Interesting your side is allways right and the others allways wrong

My viewpoints do not fit into this debate for I care less for both political parties and would like to think that the Tea Party members have a good idea to start their own thing but the only thing I know about them that is truly fair and balanced is that they like to stand at street intersections holding signs for people to beep their horns to. Sorry, you all can go back to your debate now.

They have Beer Summits too. Which I highly approve of. As long as the beer is good.
