It appears BO is the only one in Washington to get exactly what they wanted. BO could care less about the possible devastation all this bickering, compromising, posturing, etc could cause the country- he got the debt ceiling increased & it won't have to be revisited under after the 2012 elections. Good job looking out for yourself there BO! Now BO can charge full speed ahead with his spend, spend, spend....borrow, borrow, borrow...tax, tax, tax agenda. The far left must be so proud. The Repubs were duped into falling for the red herring of "future spending cuts" that future Congress' can easily get around.
What did you expect them to do? As all of the polls showed, the American people would have blamed the Republicans if a deal was not made. The backed themselves into a corner and then had to used this supposed red herring to save their own skins. David claims they were duped, I propose it was their idea.
I think it was their idea too. It was their plan and they had the numbers to stop anything that was proposed by the Dems. And what would it have been if they didn't raise our self imposed debt ceiling? It wouldn't have been a 'default'. That was a lie from the beginning. Revenue would have taken care of all of our actual debts and interest. And I believe the Constitution would have mandated that the debt was was paid first. So what would it have really been? It would have been a balanced budget starting today. If you can't spend more than you are taking in, the budget has to stay balanced. Isn't that what they say they want? No need for a meaningless vote on a Constitutional amendment that won't pass. No need for the plan that they made and passed and that they now say wasn'twhat they really wanted. Do nothing about the ceiling and....bam, balanced budget. So why didn't they push for the plan they 'really wanted' if the default was really the balanced budget that they also say they want? Dumb, spineless or they are lying and just trying to deflect the blame for their decisions seem to be the choices. The reality of what they say they want in terms of spending cuts and a balanced budget makes for good talking points and rousing populist speeches but it is also political suicide.
It's like I said, the people that put the con in congress were duped again by the smartest president ever elected. The way Obama masterfully maneuvered this piece of legislation to only cut services for the elderly, children, and the unemployed was sheer genius. The real icing on the cake was the way Obama was able to accomplish all of this while never once impacting millionaires and billionaires with even one penny in new taxes. How does he pull the wool over the con's eyes so easily? Way to go Obama! Keep embarrassing those idiots and you'll coast to re-election in 2012.
But a really great president would take some of that extra $890,000,000,000 in increased discretionary spending use it to relieve the service cuts for the elderly, children, and the unemployed.
"Con" is correct, as in the con job BO pulled on the American people....and the fact you would celebrate it is despicable. BO went in front of the nation and flat out lied to get what he wanted. He manipulated the weakest among us to strike a mass panic. We should be able to expect more from our President, even if it is Barack Obama. I'm not sure if the media was duped as well or was complicit. BO proved he is willing to risk ruining the country to advance the agenda of the far left loons who created him. If anyone believed, as I did, that politics is a lot of gamesmanship and politicing, well think again. If you believed politics was a dirty game, BO has taken it to an even lower level. I find it disgusting that he would gamble our future just to improve his re-election chances. Say what you want about any other politician, BO has just leap frogged way past the worst of the worst.

In the mean time, our credit is being downgraded in spite of BO's debt ceiling being increased (but it doesn't seem to be as devastating today as it did last week foe the left) and BO will be celebrating at a $35k per plate convention of fellow millionaires & billionaires. Let them eat cake, right?
