Maybe he can take a page out of the Pelosi playbook and promise something like the Cornhusker Kickback or the Louisiana Purchase.

The President of the United States has implied and extraordinary powers that has been wielded by Lincoln during the Civil War when he suspended Habeas Corpus, a clear violation of our Constitution. Obama will issue an executive order to raise the debt limit and let the chips fall where they may.

Once the money runs out the President will get to use his executive powers to pick and choose which checks will clear. I think Social Security checks are safe. I certainly wouldn't want to be relying on a progress payment for a pork project or earmark funds targeting a red state though.

Boehner should present a bill, command every Republican to vote in favor and if anyone questions what's in the bill he should tell them it has to be passed before we can find out what's in it. Hey, sounds irresponsible and even a bit dishonest but it worked for BO, Pelsoi & that ilk.

I think we all can see that it is the Tea Party here that is causing all the problems. You can deny it and listen to the Right-wing con as you always do but when you have 78 House cons saying they will never vote to raise the debt ceiling under any conditions, it's just hard to rationalize pointing a finger in any other direction...unless you're just a Right-wing ideologue tool. Not like we don't have a toolbox ful of them in this forum.

I think the word hostage is being used quite a bit these days and it is apt. We could pass a debt ceiling increase in 5 minutes except for those that feel that this manufactured crisis is leverage to force their agenda on the rest of us. The Right has yet to offer to give up one cut to defense or raise a single penny in taxes on their rich buddies or close one single loophole but they endlessly whine about the debt as long as they can only cut Democrat sacred cows like SSI, Medicare, and Medicaid which by the way have been put on the table.

Now tell me who is the real problem here. I have still heard nothing from any Rightie as to which con sacred cows are on the chopping block. ZERO! And that says a lot.

I thought GWB was still President in 2008 when TARP was passed.

So you want the US to be downgraded, right moen. Because there is only one plan out there that accomplices what the S&P has required of us and it is not a Democrat's plan.

Well, let's see....hmmmm.....Reid is running around proclaiming any Rep bill will be DOA at the Senate & BO is threatening a veto without knowing what the bill does or does not contain. The Repubs have a few proposals out there, they are simply trying to put something together that isn't going to be automatically dismissed by the Dim majority in the Senate & by the aloof, disengaged White House. So who is really the obstacle here?

Both sides are being obstinate. I cant believe grown men cant get together and hammer out a plan everyone can live with. No one in here knows what is inside either party's bill. To act like they do is just as irresponsible as the leaders for whom they voted.

Nothing really and yes Obamacare is a crappy piece of legislation. But TARP was passed before anyone could find out what's in it because it was basically passed prior to being writtten.

Both sides have their sacred cows as I pointed out. You, nor anyone else can point out any of the con's sacred cows that have been offered up. They are only offering cuts that they have wanted for decades to democrat sacred cows. Thats compromise? So the Democrats get to cut programs that they have supported for decades or they can change the bill and send it back to the House where the cons will kill it. You conveniently ignore the fact that the cons have offered nothing but a or/else statement since these debates have begun.

Ok! I will listen. Just which Democratic plan is out there that meets the S&P requirements not have out credit rating downgraded? Reid's does not come close. BO does not even have a plan. What plan am I missing?

I already explained all of the problems to you. You were too busy typing instead of reading an must have missed them. Regarding the sacred cows, did you expect the Republicans to offer up their own cows. They are the only ones to put a plan to a vote so far. However, you are correct, the silence from the left does say a lot.

Well...looks like the Tanman successfully passed the buck, by forcing presentation of a "dead on arrival" worthless piece of trash and complete waste of time, that serves no purpose other than to obstruct, and pull his political rear out of the sling (temporarily). What a friggin' idiot! The right wing should be proud...so proud. What's next righties? A proposal to demand a republican POTUS be installed? Well, they'll have to wait until the supreme court installs another losing republican on that one anyway.

You are one member who should stay silent on the subject. The bill is not "dead on arrival". It represents a compromise which is evidenced by the number of Republicans (Tea Party Reps) who did not vote for it. Boehner has taken a huge hit politically through all this and is in a worse sling now than he was before. As for what is next, I guess the Democrats will finally have to do something, anything. You are so quick to criticize the Republicans on this issue and call them the party of NO as if you were one of Bill Maher's loyal followers, but what about the Democrats. All I have heard from both Harry Reid and the President is that they will defeat/veto any piece of Republican legislation that comes their way. Now that is a model for compromise, don't cha think?

What is it that you two do not get about the legislative process? Where do bills originate? Think about it.....In the HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES. The Senate can come with any kind of plan that they want and the president can come with any kind of plan as well but they all still have to go through the HOUSE. Who controls the House? That’s right, the Republicans. Why would the House Republicans allow a Democrat plan to even come up for a vote? Simple answer here is that they won't. Watch what happens to Reid's plan.

The problem the House is having, and it is because Boehner is so bad at his job, is that he thinks he can shove all of the Republicans priorities down everyone’s throat or he'll blow up the economy in retaliation and then try to blame the president. All this nonsense about who has a plan and who doesn't is simply a poor understanding of the legislative process or just plain ignorance. Republicans, especially the Tea Party variety seems perfectly OK to blow up our credit rating and have stated so many times on TV. They don't see a problem with a default. I'm sure they don't, they are dumb as a mud fence.

I'd like to know if the Republicans don't even offer up any cuts in their sacred cows, who can? The Dems have already tried to close tax loopholes and increase taxes on the wealthy and gotten nowhere. So if the cons aren't willing to make any concessions or compromise on their pet interests, do you really expect the Dems to somehow do it for them?

So Boehner compromised with his own party? That is some concession.

Interesting, but wrong. "Where do bills originate? Think about it.....In the HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES." Only financial bill have to originate there. So far, they have passed two. They were both sent to the Senate and the Senate did... What did they do with them. That's right, they tabled them. I guess Reid was afraid to bring them up for a vote. I wonder why? I would guess the dips are afraid that they might have to commit to a balanced budget amendment. Boy, wouldn't that be a shock to their system, but then nearly every one of them has been on the record as favoring it. I will let you try to explain that one.
