Why are hospitals dubbed "non profit"?

I don't get this. Seems to me they're exclusively about the profit. Seems it should be called "for profit".

I didn't know they were, though there are fewer hospitals now then 20 years back... all of 'em are now "Health Care Systems" or something similar. Last time I visited my doc in the "system" they had a pamphlet on their fiscal report... in it they said they were one of the few "systems" in the country that were in the black...

Maybe because they do not make a profit, dah! BTW, I think you will find nearly all of them are religious affiliated.

Well, after trying to research what the hell non profit means, it seems it means "non profit" has nothing to do with making profit. In name only. I guess it's a term used so the masses will think it's something not for profit. It seems to mean exactly the opposite. I guess saying "non profit" sounds nice.

All I know is they charge insane prices. When my son was born, it cost like $5 for an aspirin, $6 for a pair of disposable rubber gloves (small), $7 for a pair of disposable gloves (medium), etc., and that was 20 years ago. I've heard of one aspirin costing over $100 in some "hospital" recently.

The pentagon is a miser compared to hospitals lol

"Business" practices I suppose. A hundred bucks? No profit there! LOL
Our whole system is so corrupt and so screwed. Oh well.
