House Republicans are resorting to censorship to try and prevent Democrats from calling their attempt to end Medicare exactly what it is, an end to Medicare, while The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is routinely called Obama Care by Republicans. Again and again Republi-CONS resort to conning America with language manipulation in an effort to pass unpopular legislation. Maybe they'll actually resort to honesty one day but not anytime soon I'm guessing. Just call it what it is, another gift to their wealthy donors at the expense of the poor, the elderly, and the children of this country. CENSORSHIP! Dems Cry Foul Over GOP Interference With Medicare Mailers Brian Beutler | June 15, 2011, 11:15AM 543 House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) A bitter, behind-the-scenes fight over the GOP's Medicare phase-out plan has bubbled out into the open, and now Democrats are openly charging Republicans with censoring their communications with constituents. Several House Democrats are petitioning House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), in a letter first reported by Roll Call, to step in and stop Republicans on the House Administration Committee from blocking Democratic Medicare mailers. The controversy arose in the wake of the special election in New York's conservative 26th district, where Democrat Kathy Hochul defeated her GOP challenger, who supported the Republican Medicare plan. Before then, Democrats had fired off mail to constituents warning that the plan would "kill" or "end" Medicare, without objection. Since then, several Democrats have seen their mailers delayed, with Republicans demanding strict revisions -- both to identical language they had approved before and even to milder critiques. Those Dems are crying foul. "The documentation in question uses terminology and phrases that have been approved in previous documents," the letter reads. "This politically motivated censorship undermines our ability to execute one of our primary roles and diminishes the credibility of this institution. To that end, we ask, in the strongest possible terms, that you urge the Franking Commission to allow for 'a robust debate and an open process that allows you to represent your constituents -- to make your case, offer alternatives and to be heard,' as you promised when you assumed the Speaker's Gavel." It used to be the policy of this forum that you had to associate any post with an issue. You couldn't just throw your opinion out there because it would be deleted. I think this policy should still be enforced here and I guess that I am just used to following the past protocol. Are you also trying to say that you came across this story on the internet and read it already? Maybe there are others that haven't. I think a worse practice than pasting a partial story and a link is posting a comment without ever addressing the topic. It usually happens when the topic makes a partisan individual uncomfortable with the story and rather than comment directly either pro or con, they try to change the subject because really, they have no viable position that won't expose their hypocrisy.
It's the same tired story, if someone you agree with politically does something, it's fine... but if someone you don't agree with politically does the same thing, it's wrong. I have no issues with cut, or copy, and pastes for anyone here. Most of the time it's biased one way or the other, but (for the most part) it's interesting reading.
FWIW, pasting an entire story/commentary/opinion/etc. is both against the copyright laws, and takes up undue space to show that the poster has not bothered to see what is applicable. Oh, and it endangers the very life of this forum because it leaves Peter open to law suits. Here is what CT says, but it is just as valid here.
I'll be honest. When I see a long copy/paste or worse yet, a post without paragraphs that just rambles....I'll read a sentance or two, quick skim the rest and move on. I think most folks do the same. Unless it is a page I click myself, I am probably not interested. Links are different. Sometimes I'll click a link someone posts and spend hours reading it and beyond. Have found some real cool sites that way.
I believe dr moen, phd is okay on the copyright issue, afterall, he's just following his marching orders when he forwards the cut & pastes passed along by the far left fringe idea creators.
