Why does the media care more about Anthony Weiner's weenie than about the five soldiers that gave their lives today? Oh, yea, the media is just a reflection on us as a people.

If George W. Bush were still in office, it would be the lead story.

I don't know what you were listening to, but it got lots of coverage on my news while Bush was in there. Have not heard squat about it (relatively) since BO came in

But you heard about the five that were just killed right? How many were killed before that? I mean after Obama announced the end. Gee I hear about soldiers dying in a copter crash in Arkansas when it happens. And thats far way from Iraq. Whats the point you are trying to make? Is that supposed to be breaking news? Should they interrupt General Hospital for it? I dont see a death list posted daily from you

5 American troops were killed in Afganistan recently and it was reported as " 5 NATO forces "...the media is carrying BO's water.

    I pray for their familys.

Dunno about that water carrying there Jack, I just had Fox News on and they were talking a lot about weenies, nothing about soldiers being killed, but for sure nobody was carrying water for the POTUS.

It has been on Fox more than once - a lot more than once. It is the other media that I do not hear it from.

Its been on NBC, ABC and CBS evening news. And all reported the dead as Americans.

Do you want it to be 24 hour coverage of the five dead soldiers? And why stop at 24? Lets add a cable news channel reporting only these deaths.

Perhaps your doctor can prescribe you a drug to combat memory loss. The death toll in Iraq was the lead story for about two years during the Bush administration.

I absolutely think there should be more coverage of the casualties. Too many people in the US just don't care. We have multiple wars going on with no clear objective, no clear plan to end the wars, and the concept that we're going to teach the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, to be a democratic and free people is laughable.

    It's the news folks.

If someone dies that is from your neck of the woods it matters. If not it ain't that big of a deal these days. Local news sells papers and networks. National doesn't for five lives.

    Sad isn't it?

Absolutely true. Every time they talk about training afghan soldiers so they an protect their country, I just shake my head. I've seen these guys and it is laughable. They'd line them up and it looked like a convention of old tv show or vaudeville homeless winos. The Foster Brooks Brigade.

Well if I was a soldier I certainly wouldnt my death exposed to an entire nation. The fact is that the news outlets did report that five soldiers were killed. Some commenting that it has been a while since they had to report such from Iraq. I dont know what more you want. A profile of each soldier? Thats seems a bit macabre to me. I think death is an intimate matter left only to family and friends.

Over here the families are the 1st to know and then the media is told, today in Parliment Prime Minister Cameron paid tribute to the latest 5 British soldiers to die in Afghanistan this is something that I personaly think is a good idea as then the people who send them of to war are given a constant reminder of what that realy means.
The other thing is that when our dead are returned they all land at the same RAF base (Lyneham) and are then transported through a nearby town, every time this happens the town comes to a standstill as the people pay there respects to those who have fallen
The town "wootton bassett" this year was honored by the Queen and given the title Royal (this is a very rare thing only the 3rd time ever) and it is the ordinery townsfolks who organised what has now become a guard of honour.
