How can you, in good conscience, even say that?

April 18, 2011 — A month ago in Libya, troops loyal to Moammar Kadafi were advancing on opposition-held areas, tens of thousands of civilians feared for their lives, and rebel forces appeared in disarray with little prospect of driving Kadafi from power.

After four weeks and hundreds of airstrikes by the U.S. and its NATO allies, in many ways little has changed.

Kadafi's tanks and artillery no longer threaten the de facto rebel capital of Benghazi in eastern Libya, and Kadafi's combat aircraft and helicopter gunships are grounded. But the disorganized rebel forces are still outmatched and outnumbered by Libyan army units, which, along with their leader, show no sign of giving up.

Rather, Kadafi has intensified his counteroffensive in recent days. Human rights groups accused Kadafi's military of using cluster bombs and truck-mounted Grad rockets to bombard residential areas of Misurata, the only city in western Libya still in rebel hands.

"We rushed into this without a plan," said David Barno, a retired Army general who once commanded U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. "Now we're out in the middle, going in circles."

With U.S. In Support Role, NATO's Libya Mission 'Going In Circles' | Center for a New American Security

It hardly sounds like the U.S. "went in for a few days and handed it off to NATO":

April 21, 2011 - The United States is using armed Predator drones in Libya to target Moammar Gadhafi's forces with the approval of President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Thursday.

The unmanned aircraft, already used to target militants along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan, will allow for precise attacks against Gadhafi's forces, Gates told a news conference in Washington, D.C. "He (Obama) has approved the use of armed Predators," Gates said.

The first two Predators, which carry Hellfire missiles and can stay in the air for 24 hours, headed to Libya on Thursday but had to turn back due to bad weather, said General James Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The U.S. military plans to maintain two patrols of armed Predators above Libya at any given time, permitting better surveillance — and targeting — of Gadhafi's forces as they dig into positions next to civilian areas, Cartwright told the same briefing.

The drones are based in the region but typically flown by remote control by pilots in the United States. The drones for Libya had not been withdrawn from Afghanistan, Gates and Cartwright said.

"I don't see any planning to re-assert U.S. strike aircraft and forces as we saw early in the campaign," the Pentagon spokesman said. "NATO has those capabilities to conduct strikes."

I don't have to say it, your own source says it. You conveniently decided only to paste the section of the article that supported your propaganda. How about showing the important part highlighted in red.

Did you think you were going to be able to escape the title of the article which starts "With the US in Support Role"?

We are calling for an end to Gadfly's reign.

We are directing the bombing of his forces with our people on the ground, and with drones, and with AWAC and whatever else. We are providing refuelers and warships. We are providing munitions as well as about 2/3rds of the personnel involved in the war.

And your response seems to be that since it isn't our planes that are dropping the bombs, we are not at war. I think that is delusional.

So I will say again. We are actively part of the forces that are waging war with Libya so we are at war with Libya.

What do you think a "support role" is? Standing on the sidelines and clapping? Hardly! Also, I wouldn't call sending armed predator drones into Libya a "supporting role". I'd call that active warfare.

I'd have to agree that we are at war with Libya... asterisk... lol ...We committed ourselves to a war with the Libyan government, specifically Gaddafi himself, who was massacring a particular group of it's own citizens.

This particular group instigated a civil war in Libya by demanding Gaddafi's removal. Rather than bow down to a significant portion of people Gaddafi began killing them mercilessly. The killings didn't stop with armed insurgents, unarmed men, women, and children were being killed on sight. IMO, the goal of Gaddafi's forces was the annihilation of all the Eastern tribes, they had rose against him and he intended to wipe them all out. We had two general choices: Allow the slaughter, or remove Gaddafi by force.

We are more at war with Gaddafi himself, and are in the process of regime-change. I typically loathe regime-change, meddling with a country's government for the benefit of America, but with Gaddafi I can make an exception. I give this exception since the regime-change is more for the benefit of the people in Libya who were being slaughtered than for America's interest alone.

IMO, when a government begins systematically killing a particular group of it's citizens, for ANY reason, it's justifiable to make war with that government. And this is not just America's war, it's NATO's. Many other countries agree with America that Gaddafi must be removed from power. Even Russia has begun to have exit-strategy talks with Gaddafi, and Russia has been anything but supportive of America's foreign policies.

Yes we, and NATO, are at war with the government of Libya, and Gaddafi in particular, so yes... we are at war with Libya. IMO (laughs)

The only reason Obama authorized the use of the armed drones was to placate the incessant whining of the other members of NATO who were impotent to handle the job on their own. And yes, I consider two armed drones a supporting role. Maybe you can tell us how many missiles have been fired by those drones?

  11. Lehigh96

No you didn't. If you classify BO as a warmonger (now war criminal), how do you classify George W. Bush?

  12. Lehigh96

    Lehigh96 Clown Hater

No, the situations are completely different. If they were identical, you would have already seen UN action including US involvement.

  13. Lehigh96

    Lehigh96 Clown Hater

So in summary, your case that BO is a war monger hinges on a week of bombing and two armed drones being used to stop Khaddaffi, one of the most brutal dictators in the world, from committing genocide on his own citizens.

    WEAK!

Out of curiosity, what difference does it make what I think about Syria. It sounds like you are both criticizing BO for his involvement in Libya while at the same time criticizing the apparent inconsistency in his actions by not getting involved in Syria. Does that piss you off because it makes him not a war monger?

You've indicated a reluctance to talk about Syria, so I'll respect that.

Again, I'll respect your reluctance to talk about Syria. You told me that you wouldn't give a response and I'm not going to press the issue.

As far as his invasion of Libya, he remains a warmonger. BTW, I've changed my sig line to "WAR CRIMINAL" in recognition of his bombing/killing Ghadaffi's infant grandchildren in a botched attempt to kill Ghadaffi himself.
